Why You Eat What You Eat is a unique analysis of our relationship with food and eating. Written by acclaimed neuroscientist, Rachel Herz PhD, Why You Eat What You Eat combines an examination of the sensory, psychological, and social factors that influence consumption with an investigation of how our interaction with food affects our mind and body. Among many amazing and entertaining facts, readers will learn why tomato juice tastes better on an airplane, how the color, size and shape of a plate can change how much we eat, what makes some foods filling and others not, how our mood can change the way food tastes and that eating certain foods can make us either nicer or meaner. Why You Eat What You Eat also uncovers the fascinating interactions we have with our food environment, such as why bringing reusable bags to the grocery store can encourage us to buy more treats, why watching TV and the number of people we’re with can alter how much we eat, and reveals the secret to resisting return visits at the all-you-can eat buffet, along with many other useful techniques for managing cravings and improving our experience of food. Why You Eat What You Eat addresses how we each bring different talents and weaknesses to the table and takes the reader on a voyage of self-discovery to uncover how our culture, psychology and physiology has shaped our connection to food. Why You Eat What You Eat will equip you with the knowledge and power to take control of your relationship with food and how to lead a happier and healthier food-rich life.

DI S C OV E R R H O D E I S L A N D JUNE 2021

With the crazy whirlwind that was 2021, we all know everyone is just itching to getaway and relax with family and friends. Although we have come a very long way in this pandemic, we still have some way to go and unfortunately we still need to keep social distance in mind, especially when planning to travel or getaway. Here are some easy places and fun ways to getaway this summer and stay safe!

1. A Trail Hike Summer Tour Calling all lovers of the outdoors! Summer 2021 is for getting out and exploring the nature around us. Get together with family or your best friends and map out all of the fun trails you want to hike this summer. Get together each weekend and make a day of hiking one of the selected trails. By the end of the summer you'll have toured many of your local hiking trails. Sometimes we focus so much on getting away physically that we forget how to be tourists in our own state! 2. Glamping While this is still a relatively new concept, it is an idea that I 1000% support. Who doesn't love the idea of getting to escape into the beauty of nature, but still getting to enjoy all of the comforts of home. Glampin is exactly what it sounds like: Glamourous Camping = Glamping! Forget regular old tents and cooking over a fire. Instead imagine a tent with a full kitchen and master bedroom, and indoor plumbing only steps away. Glamping is an activity that is definitely going to thrive in Summer 2021, but reservations are usually required, so make sure to get ahead of the rush!

3. Time for an RV! This option is definitely pricier and much more of a commitment, but will bring a summer full of fun. So many people have hopped onto the latest trend of renovating RV's! Buying up and old RV and giving it some elbow grease and a little DIY is a fun way to get the family or some friends together to create the RV of your dreams and an awesome space for summer getaways. Once the RV is renovated and ready to go, you can plan road trips for every weekend if you want to. Best part? You can come and go as you please and never have to worry about booking a hotel room or place to stay along the way. 4. A Tourist in your own State People come from far and wide to visit Rhode Island, it is such a popular tourist destination. When you live here, you often forget all that your home state has to offer. Rhode Island is also such a short driving distance from other states with equally amazing destinations! Hit the road and take a day trip to Boston and explore the city. Plan a weekend getaway to the moutains with friends and family. The possibilities are endless. Explore the majesty of the mountains or all of the beautiful beaches New England has to offer. 5. Water Fun Anyone? With so many amazing water parks

10 DI S C OV E R R H O D E I S L A N D JUNE 2021

close by, these make the perfect place to getaway for some fun in the sun! Although last summer many water parks were closed due to the pandemic, this year many are reopening with guidelines in place to keep everyone safe, how exciting is that? If water parks aren't really your thing, how about learning a new and funk skill? Water sports like kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding are all great ways to get out and enjoy the day. These activites are also very easy for beginners. Many places will offer classes and you can even book a group session and make a fun memoy with family and friends. I hope these getaway ideas have been helpful and get you excited for all that Summer 2021 can be! Work life balance is extremely important (always remembert that) and getting away with family and friends is such a great way to find that balance. Have fun this summer and stay safe everyone!

in a way that doesn’t feel forced or put undue pressure on your customer. Conversational flow is important. One option is to have your cashier(s) engage with customers when they check out. They can start by asking if the customer found everything they were looking for. Any customer who praises your store or products represents a positive review. That said, it’s not a good idea to ask for a review as soon as the customer says something positive. Ask a few follow-up questions. Then, as you end the conversation, say something like “We really appreciate feedback from our customers because it helps people learn about us. Would you be willing to write an online review?” You can plug in your platform of choice, whether it’s Yelp, Google, or Facebook. Asking for Reviews via Email

Perhaps your business doesn’t have a lot of face-to-face interaction with customers. In that case, sending an email may be the right way to ask for reviews. My recommendation is to segment your list and send out emails accordingly. Getting too many reviews all at once may not be helpful, since there’s

JUNNE 2021 D IS COVER RHO D E ISL AN D 21

evidence to suggest that Google and Yelp may ding you if you have a massive influx of reviews. On a related note, it’s also not wise to link directly to your Yelp page in your email since their algorithm might penalize you for doing so. Instead, mention your preferred review site if you have one, and suggest that the recipient Google “Your Business Name + Yelp” to find your page. However, if you are asking people to leave reviews on your page, you may link directly to the product page. Asking for Reviews on a Thank You Page

If you have an online store where customers can buy products, you may want to use your Thank You page to ask customers for a review. It’s important to remember that firsttime-customers aren’t going to be able to review your products if they’ve just ordered them. However, they can review their experience on your site, and they may be able to offer insights on your customer service if they’ve interacted with you. Of course, some customers who land on your Thank You page will be buying a product for the second or third time. That’s why it’s important to ask because those people

careful about linking out to your Yelp pages from social media. You may link directly to your Google page. If you decide to use a chatbot, you may want to consider setting up a survey directly within the chatbot if you want to collect reviews to post on your site. Otherwise, you can simply ask people to leave a review elsewhere. A Warning...

Do not ever incentivize people for leaving a review. For starters, the quality of review will decrease, as people may not have their heart in it. More importantly, Google and others will take drastic steps if they find you are compensating people for good reviews. How drastic? How about deleting ALL your reviews? Don't do it. While we're on the topic, don't try to hide negative reviews or send people to different review sites based on whether they had a good experience or not. Davey Mars owns Luminagency Digital Marketing and helps small businesses manage and improve their advertising ROI. This article originally appeared on the Luminagency blog.

One final note about reviews. While it might sound odd, customers are more likely to trust businesses that have some negative reviews. It’s not realistic for any company to get 5-star reviews across the board. That said, you should respond to negative reviews and do your best to make the customers who leave them happy. Reviews are a necessary part of your marketing. Navigating the process may be confusing.

FINE CLOTHIERS When the temperature increases the entire world switches over to linen... except for the majority of the US that is... For some reason we seem to see again and again men in the US shying away from linen. The number one complaint we hear??? Shown in solids and patterns this lightweight warm weather blend is a favorite of many for jackets & suits. Last but not least... we step away from suits, jackets & trousers and into the worlds of shirts. We do offer full linen shirts which are comfortable and breathable for warm weather days.
