First Reading – Isaiah 2.1-5 The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. In days to come the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; all the nations shall stream to it. Many peoples shall come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.’ For out of Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Second Reading – Romans 13.11-14* Brothers and sisters, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone, the day is near. Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armour of light; let us live honourably as in the day, not in revelling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarrelling and jealousy. Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

This will be the only Team evening service of the day, but there will be normal morning services. 7:30pm – BRAUNSTON BLOKES CLUB All Saints Braunston This months special festive BBC evening is an invitation to all ladies and gentlemen to a demonstration and explanation of the art of bell ringing plus an opportunity to ‘have a go’ if you wish (non obligatory) under expert supervision. Richard Beadman, the All Saints Bell Tower Captain will lead the event. The Braunston Bell ringers are on the look out for new ringers so this is a great opportunity to try your hand and who knows where it could lead! After the Bell Ringing we will decant to the Blue Ball for a convivial drink and the option to sample some other ‘Bells’. Peter is a United Reformed Church Minister and currently an Honorary Fellow in the School of Divinity, Edinburgh University. The history of death is his special interest, particularly cremation.

Co-founding editor of the quarterly journal Mortality, his co-edited books include Death in England: an illustrated history (1999) and Death our Future (2008). He is the author of From dust to ashes: Cremation and the British way of death (2006). Death in modern Scotland and Cremation in modern Scotland are published this year. Christ's descent into Hell: According to the Apostles Creed, 'he [Christ] descended into hell'. This talk investigates the New Testament origins of this statement of Christian belief, with special reference to 1 Peter. It examines expressions of this doctrine at selected periods of Christian history. Thirdly, it considers its contemporary relevance and value in the context of a secular society which is fascinated by human mortality.

Late Night Shopping

Late night shopping takes place in Oakham on Monday 5 December – as part of what’s going on in the town we will be providing refreshments (mulled wine) in church, and also offering a gift wrapping service. Offers of help are needed for both serving refreshments and gift wrapping, and of course just being around to talk to people. Please speak to Revd Owen Williams if you can help.

Rutland Foodbank Christmas Hampers

Once again, Rutland Foodbank will be giving Christmas Hampers to those in our county who may struggle to buy those small luxuries that make Christmas a celebration. The hampers will include mince pies, Christmas puddings, chocolates and even family games. We are seeking cash donations. £15 will sponsor one hamper but any amount is welcome – cheques made payable to 'Rutland Foodbank'. Donations can be made to the Team Office at Oakham, or via

team ministers in the villages, by 6 December if possible.

Oakham Mission Giving We are about to decide on the 2016 allocation of Mission Giving money from All Saints Oakham, so if you have a charity that you would like to be considered, please notify Michael Wilson as soon as possible on 01572 720853 or email mwilson@keme.co.uk. We aim to achieve a balance between local, national and international charities.

The Christmas Memory Tree

Remember Someone Special – once again, from early December, there will be a Christmas tree in Braunston churchyard. Paper hearts and pens will be available in the church to decorate, write names or memories of loved ones on. Leave your decorated heart in the basket provided in church together with a £1 and we will laminate the heart and put it on the Christmas Tree. Hearts will be collected and laminated daily up to Christmas. Alternatively put a heart and £1 in an envelope and leave it 52 Church St, Braunston post box to be laminated.

Christmas Post

After a short break Oakham All Saints Scout Group is back to running the local Oakham only Christmas Post scheme this year. For a small donation for each card (20-30p is our suggested donation but we are flexible and

appreciate all the donations we receive) we will hand deliver your cards to addresses in Oakham. We will be in church morning services to collect cards on 4th, 11th & 18th December. We will also be collecting at our meetings on Monday and Thursday at the Scout Hut on Grampian Way. We hope to use the money to fund all sections in terms of badges and activities and to help subsidise camps and visits.

Would You Like To Sing? The choir would welcome some new members â&#x20AC;&#x201C; either to join us for the forthcoming carol services, or for the longer term. We are rehearsing now for the Christmas Carol Services. We practice on Tuesday evenings at Whissendine (see inside back cover for details and contact Kevin if you are interested).

Dominic will be licensed by the Bishop of Newcastle on Monday 28th November at 7:30pm in his new post as Team Vicar in the Benwell & Scotswood Benefice in Newcastle

Open House
