Bible Reading & Talk – Luke 18.1-8 Jesus told his disciples a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. He said, ‘In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, “Grant me justice against my opponent.” For a while he refused; but later he said to himself, “Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming.”’ And the Lord said, ‘Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?’

Hymn

It’s me, it’s me, it’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer. It’s me, it’s me, it’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer. 1. Not my brother or my sister, but it’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer. Not my brother or my sister, but it’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer. 2. Not my mother or my father, but it’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer. Not my mother or my father, but it’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer. 3. Not my stranger or my neighbour, but it’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer. Not my stranger or my neighbour, but it’s me, O Lord, standin’ in the need of prayer. Words & Music: Traditional (Junior Praise – 119)

Activity Time Prayers The Lord’s Prayer As Jesus taught us to pray we sing

1 Father God in heaven, Lord most high: hear your children's prayer, Lord most high: hallowed be your name, Lord most high O Lord, hear our prayer.

3 Give us daily bread day by day, and forgive our sins day by day, as we too forgive day by day O Lord, hear our prayer.

2 May your kingdom come here on earth; may your will be done here on earth, as it is in heaven so on earth O Lord, hear our prayer.

4 Lead us in your way, make us strong; when temptations come make us strong; save us from all sin, keep us strong O Lord, hear our prayer.

5 All things come from you, all are yours kingdom, glory, power, all are yours; take our lives and gifts, all are yours O Lord, hear our prayer Words: from the Lord’s Prayer, James Seddon (1915 - 1983) Music: Kum Ba Yah, trad melody, arr David Peacock (b 1949) © The Representatives of the late James Edward Seddon / Jubilate Hymns (Hymns for Today’s Church – 358)

Hymn

1. What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to him in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry ev’rything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged: take it to the Lord in prayer! Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness – take it to the Lord in prayer!

5

3. Are we weak and heavy-laden, cumbered with a load of care? Jesus only is our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer! Do your friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In his arms he’ll take and shield thee, thou wilt find a solace there. Words: Joseph Medlicott Scriven (1819-1886) Music: What a friend (Converse), Charles Crozat Converse (1832-1918) (Anglican Hymns Old & New – 811)
