Gospel – Luke 14.1,7-14 On one occasion when Jesus was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to eat a meal on the sabbath, they were watching him closely. When he noticed how the guests chose the places of honour, he told them a parable. ‘When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not sit down at the place of honour, in case someone more distinguished than you has been invited by your host; and the host who invited both of you may come and say to you, “Give this person your place,” and then in disgrace you would start to take the lowest place. For those singing, there are rehearsals on Tuesday 4 October at 7pm at Whissendine, and at the Cathedral on the day at 1:45pm.

TUESDAY 1 NOVEMBER 10:00am –TEMPLE VISIT Leicester A kind invitation by Mrs Surrinder Singh Sandu, wife of Resham, a past High Sherriff of Leicestershire, has been extended to Oakham Team Churches to visit two Sikh Temples where we will be offered hospitality at one of them. In the afternoon there will be a visit to a Jewish Synagogue on Avenue Road and a Muslim Mosque also on Avenue Road. It is a

free lunch but a small donation at each of the places we visit as a token of our thanks would be appreciated. A bus has been arranged and will depart from outside All Saints Church, Oakham at 10:00am. Cost £12 each.

Harvest Festival

Harvest will be celebrated in all our Team Churches over the next few weeks, with a variety of services, and everyone is very welcome at all of them. Some are followed by refreshments or a meal, and at Braunston there is a special exhibition. Greenbelt 2016

The Bishop of Brixworth will be attending, and has invited local churches to join him at the Communion Service today (10:30am), when Archbishop Justin Welby will be answering questions put to him by young people, and a number of our congregation members will be attending. There is a reduced service provision in the Team today nas a result.

Egleton Roof Theft During the night of Wednesday 3 August an attempt was made to steal lead from the chancel roof of Egleton Church. Fortunately the alarm did its job and the thieves made a quick getaway. Please let us all be extra vigilant in all our Team Churches.

Traidcraft Sales & Dates The sales for July amounted to a healthy £256.58 – as ever thank you so much to all who support the regular stall. It’s great to bee able to have our church roof protected through your generous donations for the roof alarm. Have you wondered what it sounds like? Here’s you chance to find out – we shall be demonstrating it on Saturday 24 Septemberat the end of the first day of our exhibition.

Foodbank Update The Foodbank is currently short of the following items – small sugar (500g), custard, tinned carrots, peas & potatoes, tinned tomatoes, rice pudding, sponge puddings, long life fruit juice, cordials, coffee, smash, chocolates & sweets, toilet rolls, shower gel, shampoo etc. Items that we have plenty of are porridge, tea, soup and cereal, so please do not donate these at the moment.
