EVENT: Aging Gracefully

This April 11 - 16 seven spectacular Canadian authors will be visiting the North Shore, speaking at the North Shore’s public libraries for the North Shore Writers Festival!

Thursday, April 7, 7:00pm - 8:30pm Lynn Valley Main Library Want to optimize the health of your body and mind from the inside out? Attend this presentation with Dr. Sacha Elliot to learn what you can do to increase longetivity, enhance energy and slow down the cellular aging process.

Capilano Universe Lecture Series Tuesday, April 12, 7:00pm - 8:45pm, Lynn Valley Main Library For the final presentation of the Spring 2011 Capilano Universe lecture series, Capilano University’s Dr. Stanley Greenspoon will tackle the ageold question, are we alone? Dr. Greenspoon will talk about the search for extrasolar planets and extraterrestrial life. Attend this presentation to learn about the astronomical and physical issues involved in the discovery of extrasolar planets, and the criteria for the existence of life on these planets. Red Cedar Book Club at Lynn Valley Main Library

Each year, kids in grades 4 to 7 decide who will receive the Red Cedar Book Award by voting for best fiction and information books. Come in to Lynn Valley Main Library to pick up your reading log and start reading nominated titles so that you can vote. Free; no registration required.

Philosopher’s Café Series, presented by SFU

Third Wednesday of each month, 7:00pm – 8:45pm Vibrant street-level discussions moderated by Mark Battersby, PhD. The session on April 20 addresses the topic of conspiracy theories. How credible are conspiracy theories? How can we assess them? Everyone welcome; no registration required. Admission $5.

District Library Gallery

Drop by the second floor of the Lynn Valley Main Library to check out the exhibitions of the District Library Gallery, presented by the North Vancouver Community Arts Council. • Suzy Stroet’s exhibition runs until April 20 • Jennifer Harwood’s oil painting exhibition, Waterworks, runs April 20 - Mary 28. Opening reception for Harwood takes place Saturday, April 23, 2:00pm - 4:00pm.

English Conversation Corner

Mondays, 7:30pm – 8:45pm, Come and practise your English language skills with a fun group of new speakers. This program is presented in partnership with the Bahá’í of North Vancouver. Free; no registration required. Participants must have some knowledge of English.

EVENT: Invisible Children: The Story of Roseline

Wednesday, April 13, 7:00pm – 8:00pm, Hear about the efforts being made to rescue child soldiers in East Africa at this engaging talk and short film presentation. Brooklyn Kemp, a student in Capilano University’s Global Stewardship program, will speak at this event and will present the film Roseline, which tells the story of a young orphaned Ugandan girl living with HIV/AIDS. Borrow a Blu-ray Disc! North Vancouver District Public Library has just launched a new collection of Bluray Discs.

“My test of a good novel is dreading to begin the last chapter.” - Thomas Helm

This means you can now borrow Blu-ray Discs from your District Library! The Library will still be adding regular DVDs to its collection, but now will offer a selection of Blu-ray Discs for children, teens and adults.

To find Blu-ray Discs in the Library’s catalogue, simply type “blu-ray” in the catalogue search box (find our catalogue at nvdpl.bibliocommons.com). Or ask a librarian at any of our three branches.
