The South Lakes retail team based at Hill Top, home of Beatrix Potter, look forward to a year of literary celebration as 2012 becomes a dream year for Beatrix Potter book collectors2012 marks a fairly significant birthday for both Peter Rabbit and Mr Tod; two of Beatrix Potter’s most popular characters – though for very different reasons!

Peter Rabbit, iconic and lovable character who epitomises youthful adventure is celebrating his 110th birthday in style with a collection of special books.

A series of three special Anniversary Editions have been printed: The Tale of Peter Rabbit has been produced with a blue foil cover and matching gilt edging. (RRP £7.99) Warne’s have also printed a delightful book, Dear Peter, which contains a collection of miniature letters each of which carry on the adventures of the well known characters from the little tales, including Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, Benjamin Bunny, Jeremy Fisher and Tom Kitten. This book has a bronze foil cover. (RRP £7.99) The new The World of Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter looks back at the important connection Beatrix made with the world through her first and most popular tale. This little book compliments the other two special editions and has a gold foil cover. (RRP £7.99)

New for Easter 2012 we will be stocking a special edition of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, bound in a striking Union Jack, embossed cover, to celebrate the Olympic Games being held in Great Britain for the first time since 1948. This little book will appeal to anyone wanting to celebrate a real British icon! (RRP £9.99)

Look who’s 100!

He is the real Alan Rickman of the Beatrix Potter world. Mr. Tod – the “Foxy Whiskered Gent” is the roguish and dapper villain, who appeared in his own story after a cameo role in Jemima Puddle Duck.

Mr. Tod appeals to those, like Beatrix, who are fond of a bit of a scoundrel as the antidote to all of her well-behaved characters.

Beatrix was tired of making books “about well-behaved people” and after some disagreements with her publishers, she set about this dramatic story with relish.

Mr. Tod and his adversary Tommy Brock the badger come into battle over the Flopsy Bunnies, in a tale that features Peter Rabbit in his final tale.

To celebrate the centenary of the tale, which was published in 1912, the book has been produced as the next in the series to feature a gold cover. Copies are limited and as with all of the other centenary tales, we expect Mr. Tod to sell quickly. (RRP £ 6.99).

Mr. Tod will also be available in the special Collector’s Edition. Only 100 of these books have been produced and they come in a leather presentation box with a leather bookmark and are each individually numbered. (RRP £125)

Look out for the newly produced and refreshed classic tales from Beatrix Potter, on sale at Hill Top. All 23 of the Little Tales bound in vintage colours evoking the period of their original publication and containing a special endpaper and publishers note.

So, as you can see, 2012 is a bumper year for collectors and anyone can add to their collection with books ranging from £5.99 to £125.
