GENERAL INFORMATION Welcome to the City of Roseburg Parks and Recreation Division. Our goal is to enrich people’s lives through providing park and recreation facilities and programs that benefit the quality of life for all Roseburg residents.

Effective January 1, 2011, park rules prohibit smoking or the use of other tobacco products inside the boundaries of all City of Roseburg parks, with the exception of the Stewart Park Golf Course.

The City of Roseburg Parks and Recreation Division is pleased to bring you the 2014 Roseburg Recreation Guide. We want to connect Roseburg residents with recreation services. Whether you want to have family fun, learn a new skill, get fit, stay active, meet new people or have an adventure, the guide will provide a source to find opportunities.

YOUTH RECREATION PROGRAMS Discover Roseburg 4, Land of Umpqua Geocache Series Get outdoors and enjoy the day with your family and friends. This outdoor adventure is great fun for all ages. The series consists of 5 traditional & 15 virtual caches, and will lead cachers to city parks and sights around Roseburg. Discover Roseburg 4 / Land of Umpqua Geocoins will be awarded to those who complete the geocache challenge! The series will continue until all geocoins (200 available) have been awarded. Your passport may be picked up and / or returned to Roseburg City Hall (1st floor), 900 SE Douglas Ave or Windmill Inn of Roseburg, 1450 NW Mulholland Drive Wise Kids® Outdoors - Stewart Park Small Pavilion July 8 - July 31, Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 am - Noon This summer program offers children an opportunity to explore the world of nature while learning about the importance of eating right and being physically active. The program is built around 20 adventure missions, which teach kids about bugs, critters, the water and weather cycle, the three R’s, animal habitats, and gardening, among other topics. The class will meet every Tuesday & Thursday morning for four weeks. Class is limited to 15 participants, ages 6 - 11. Co-sponsored by Pacific Source Health Plans. Preregistration is required. STEWART PARK GOLF COURSE Stewart Park Golf Course is a 9-Hole municipal public golf course. Located in the heart of Stewart Park, where the natural beauty surrounding the course is unmatched. The course layout is enjoyable for the beginner and casual golfer, yet offers challenges for the seasoned golfer. The golf course offers a covered driving range, fully stocked pro-shop and the Caddy Shack Grill. Golf cart rentals and golf cart storage are available. Lessons available. ADULT RECREATION PROGRAMS Lunchtime Pilates - Boys & Girls Club (1144 NE Cedar Street, Roseburg) Mondays & Wednesdays 12:15 - 1:00 pm Have you been looking for the perfect lunchtime workout? Lunchtime Pilates is a dynamic 45-minute class, suitable for all levels, which will send you back to work with increased creativity, concentration and motivation! Pilates is a system of exercises designed to improve your core strength, using your own body’s resistance to improve muscle tone, flexibility and posture. No time commitments or pre-registration, just come when you can. Participants need to bring a mat. Cosponsored by the Boys & Girls Club. Fee: $3.00 per class on a drop-in basis. Outdoor Summer Fitness Boot Camp - Jo Lane Middle School track, 2153 NE Vine Mondays & Thursdays 7:00 - 8:00 pm, Monday, June 2nd - October 2nd. Look great and feel great! Boot camp is an adult fitness class which combines strength and cardio training while concentrating on your core strength. Work at your own pace in a FUN group atmosphere! Workouts change daily so every day is a new exciting workout. No time commitments or pre-registration, just come when you can. Childcare is not available. Fee: $1.00 per class on a drop-in basis.

Outdoor Low Impact Fitness Class - Fir Grove Park 1614 - 1654 W. Harvard Avenue (meet at the pavilion near the soccer fields) Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:00 - 9:45 am beginning June 3rd This program offers older adults an opportunity to socialize while enjoying a light exercise routine outdoors. Participants will warm-up with some stretching, followed by light exercise and walking. Class will close with stretching and a cool down period. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing and good walking shoes / sneakers. No time commitments or pre-registration, just come when you can. Fee: $1.00 per class on a drop-in basis. Free Yoga in the Park - Stewart Park near the Halfshell Saturdays, June 21st - August 9th from 11:00 am - 12:00 noon. Alli (along with other yoga instructors) will be teaching FREE yoga at Stewart Park this summer next to the Halfshell. You will need to bring a yoga mat or a picnic blanket (or both) and a strap. Wear comfy / stretchy clothing. And, please do not eat or drink for at least one hour prior to class. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to sign in and get ready. The emergency hotline is monitored 365 days a year and trained, licensed rehabilitators are on call to treat injured and orphaned wildlife. New members are welcome and meetings are open to all. Housed in a historic landmark, the building features six galleries which rotate shows every two months. Kids classes are held every Saturday for 6-12 year olds from 10:30-noon and 12:30-2:00 pm, and a teen class on Wednesday afternoon from 3:00-5:00 pm. Summer camps feature a variety of themes with lots of options to suit everyone’s busy schedules. Countless other adult classes and activities are available, including a first-rate ceramics studio and a beautiful gift shop. UVAA also hosts “Music for the Arts” dinners six times a year, and sponsors the Holiday Home Tour each Christmas season. 2014 will mark its 46th Annual Summer Arts Festival, June 27, 28 and 29 in Fir Grove Park. Umpqua Valley Audubon Society hosts ROSEBURG SWIFT WATCH each September in the Fir Grove section of Stewart Park behind the Umpqua Valley Arts Center off of Harvard Avenue to celebrate the migration of the Vaux’s Swifts. Each spring and fall, thousands of Vaux’s Swifts gather to roost communally in the Clay Place chimney. While numbers vary from year to year, the display can be spectacular. PARK RENTAL FACILITIES The Stewart Park large pavilion contains the following amenities: electricity, water and 28 picnic tables; 16 of the picnic tables are located on the east side and 12 on the west side. A large grassy area and playground are nearby.   Large Pavilion: All = $150 - $180 / Half = $75 - $90   A smaller pavilion containing 4 picnic tables is located on the hill above the bandshell adjacent to the restrooms. Small Pavilion: $50 - $60      The Nichols bandshell is located near the South Umpqua River in Stewart Park. Electricity is available.   Covered bandshell: $250 - $300 per day. Platform only: $125 - $150 per day (rate available off season when the cover is down).

The Gaddis Park pavilion contains 8 picnic tables. Electricity and restrooms are available by permit only. The pavilion is adjacent to youth baseball fields and the bike path system which contains six miles of pathway.   Rental fee is $75 - $90

Sunshine Park has two pavilions available: The north pavilion contains 4 (8’) concrete picnic tables. The south pavilion contains 8 (8’) concrete picnic tables.   The park encompasses hundreds of acres of natural area, a seasonal stream, sports fields and a play area. Sunshine Park is a great location for small gatherings and picnics.   Rental fee is $75 - $90   Adult and youth softball and baseball fields can be rented for your family reunion or company picnic.   Fields are located at Gaddis Park, Sunshine Park, Stewart Park and Micelli Park.   Rental fee is $125 - $150 per field per day.
