Campus Vaasa, Finland

Aim and target group

Novia UAS in Vaasa offers a technically oriented Master’s degree programme in English. The programme is designed for the professional engineer who wants to deepen the knowledge and understanding of the methods and possibilities of modern automation and control systems. The students will learn to design, test and implement control, supervisory and automation systems. In 2019, focus is put on extended knowledge in the post-digitalization methods of constructing fault-tolerant and -detecting supervisory systems with a special emphasis on usability. The markets needs for new more intelligent automation systems are huge.

Study methods

Tuition in the Master’s degree programme is organised so that studying can be combined with full-time work during a period of two years. The Master’s degree can alternatively be achieved in one year by studying full time. The studies of the programme involve not only theoretical lectures but also practical ways of learning, laboratory assignments and hands-on exercises, in innovative learning environments. The studies consist of virtual parts and intensive course days mainly at Campus Vaasa two days per month.

Content of studies

The programme consists of 30 ECTS advanced professional studies and a Master’s thesis (30 ECTS). When writing the Master thesis the student plans and implements a development project in and/or for real working life, typically for his/her employee organization. Alternatives for the thesis are, for example, contributing to research work within the field of automation and control in the university community at the campus. The principles and methods of advanced model-based control systems is introduced. Both model-based and data-based methods are treated in the curricula.
