NYA Summer ProgramsMessage from our Director, Mary Goodrich

Thank you for your interest in North Yarmouth Academy’s Summer Programs! Our mission is to provide children with unique experiences led by caring, knowledgeable staff in a safe and happy atmosphere. We further strive to broaden horizons, teach new skills, and encourage appropriate and friendly interactions among children and adults. We seek to make every program challenging, educational, and fun for all.

NYA offers a variety of day camp opportunities, from themed general sessions to specific programs, for children ages 2-15. Your child will have fun, meet friends, and learn new things under the direction of our highly experienced and trained summer staff.

Most sessions are led by trained and experienced educators or run by partner organizations with expertise in their field. Experienced instructors and counselors round out our camp staff team. Your camper will become part of a safe, caring community that gets to know you and your child personally. Our camps run in weekly sessions starting June 12, 2023, and our last day of camp is on August 11, 2023. There will be no camps during the Yarmouth Clam Festival week (July 17-21), as our campus is overrun with Festival activities.

NYA Campers will have the opportunity to:

-Participate in programs that develop self-esteem, build skills, are creative, innovative, and memorable

-Participate in challenging, age-appropriate risk taking

-Experience a wide variety of activities

-Be inspired to achieve their highest potential through interaction with positive adult role models and each other

-Work in small groups and build group unity

-Be a leader and a follower

-Develop connections with adults and peers

-Make appropriate decisions about matters that affect them

-Develop problem-solving skills

-Participate in a group that strives to accept differences and values diversity

-Have fun!

Our programs are designed to be fun learning experiences, set in a comfortable and flexible environment. While we do have structure, Summer Programs are not designed to feel like school-year structured programs. Campers will spend plenty of time outside and plenty of time moving their bodies. Summer is a great time for experiential learning and that’s just what we offer! We even have plenty of ideas for rainy days that will keep kids active and engaged.

Sincerely,

Our signature NYA-led camps are the Panther Cub, Panther Cub Tots, and Super Summer Day Camp programs. They are designed by:

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Kassi Michaud

This is Kassi’s fourth year with NYA Summer Programs. Her credentials include: NYA Lower School Faculty; Husson College, B.A. and MBA in Health Science

CAMP STAFF

The majority of our camp staff are recruited from NYA, the local community, and colleges. Many of our Lead Instructors are trained teachers, and all have extensive experience working with youth.

Junior Counselors are high school or college students who assist instructors to provide our high quality program. They all share one thing - a passion to work with children and to make our campers’ experience really great!

All staff are required to have a personal interview with the Director of Summer Programs, have references verified, and must pass a criminal background check before they work with campers.

All staff and partner organizations participate in a safety orientation before the summer begins.

Ancient healing practices and modern holistic techniques are combined to introduce the curriculum using an array of methods such as storytelling, crafts, activities, games, and spending time in nature. Campers are introduced to guided visualizations to help them identify their inner critic and inner champion, breathing techniques, the law of attraction, an attitude of gratitude, working with chakras and auras, shamanic journeying, mindfulness, discovering power animals, and much more! This unique program offers children a profound opportunity to experience a deeper awareness of who they are while they are having fun and playing games.
