news CALM IN THE CHAOS

L

ocal artist Julie Potter’s beautiful exhibition of work, ‘Calm in the Chaos’ opened Sunday 16th June, in the Yeats Gallery, with great attendance and entertainment from Sligo musicians Mike Nielsen and Eddie McFarlane. Julie is a young artist of exceptional talent and original vision, whose exhibition is well worth a visit. Running from Sunday 16th to Saturday 29th June, this collection explores the nostalgia and beauty found in the unexpected landscapes of urban chaos. Julie works with watercolours, graffiti and textiles to create a dark and moody

atmosphere, which brings inclement weather conditions and the urban mundane to life in a truly vibrant way. Julie describes a passion for rain, and a desire to share the same through her art; “I love the rain. It brings with it childhood memories. When I smell the rain-soaked earth, I think of arriving home from playing with tingling hands and flushed cheeks... I rarely walk in the rain now, the sensibility of adulthood having taken over my carefree disposition... I made this journey of discovery into creating something that expresses this passion of

mine as well as conveying it to others – so they too will see what I see.” Visit Julie Potter’s exhibition at the Yeats Gallery, Hyde Bridge, Sligo from 16th to 29th June, or visit her website, www.juliepotterart.com for more information.
