11th Season
Peter Jarjoura enters his 11th season as the head men’s and women’s soccer coach and has been with the program every step of the way since its inaugural 2002 season. Jarjoura has accumulated a career record of 64-77-8 with the men, including a winning mark of 42-37-4 in north division play. Three years removed from a runner-up finish in the north division, Jarjoura will have six returning sophomores total in 2012, including two who missed the entire 2011 season. Gone from last year’s squad is NJCAA Third Team All-American Fakhry Khulfan. The Ranger men have enjoyed five 7-win seasons or better, including backto-back 7-win seasons in 2008 and 2009. Their best season to date was back in their inaugural season, posting an impressive 12-6-1 mark (8-1 north play) and finishing as the MACJC runner-up. Jarjoura’s Lady Rangers enjoyed their best season in 2006, posting a record of 14-5 (8-1) and finishing the season as runners-up for the state and region titles. It marked the Lady Rangers’ second double figure win total, going 13-5 in 2004 as part of a MACJC state runner-up finish. Jarjoura’s squads have also excelled in the classroom. Eighteen Northwest soccer players have been selected NJCAA Academic All-American over the last nine years, including Carolina Salcedo and Michael Newman in 2010. Jarjoura, who grew up playing soccer in his native Lebanon, was a United States Soccer Federation referee for six years, and he worked as an official with the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association for one year. He has also officiated games and tournaments for the Mississippi Youth Soccer Association and Mississippi High School Activities Association. Jarjoura and his family reside in Senatobia where he is an active elder in the Senatobia Presbyterian Church and a youth leader. He and his wife, the former Jody Griffin, have a son Zachary, and twin daughters Marlena and Lydia. The Jarjoura’s have endowed a scholarship at Northwest in memory of their son Jordan, who died in 1988 at age seven.
7th Season
Charlie Baldwin enters his seventh season at Northwest and is the Rangers’ assistant soccer coach for both programs. Baldwin has 24 years of soccer coaching experience under his belt, spending the past six seasons in Senatobia and sharing recruiting and coaching responsibilities with Jarjoura. Baldwin helped the Ranger men to back-toback 7-win seasons and MACJC north division runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2009, while assisting the women’s team to three, third place finishes in the north division over the past four seasons. The Lady Rangers earned their first MACJC north division championship in 2006, posting a record of 14-5 and finishing the season as runners- up for the state and region titles. During that same year, the men’s team placed third in the north division. Prior to Northwest, Baldwin served as head soccer coach at DeSoto Central, leading the boys’ soccer program in 2005 and 2006 and the girls’ squad in 2003 and 2004. He would lead DeSoto Central to three Chickasaw Conference Championships during his stay. Baldwin was also the girls’ head soccer coach at Southaven High School from 1998-2001. Before coaching at the high school level, Baldwin coached the Germantown Fury for four seasons and the Memphis Futbol Club for nine, and was also a training coach for the Mississippi Olympic Development Program. A 1973 graduate of Southaven High School, Baldwin holds a NSCAA National Diploma and USF National “C” License. Baldwin is married to the former Mary Barkley of Southaven, and the two have a son, Charlie, and a daughter, Christy.
2012 SEASON OUTLOOK Northwest returns six players to this season’s roster and will face a similar task like the Ranger women in having to replace 90 percent of its scoring from a year ago. Big losses from last year’s squad are NJCAA Third Team All-American Fakhry Khulfan (12 goals, 28 points) and two-year starter Nathan Smith (eight goals, 21 points).

Ruddy Guzman and Robbie Fox, both of whom started all 15 games last season, are back as well as Peyton Smith and Joseph Paez. Forward Dylan Castoria, who missed the entire 2011 season with an injury, provides a big boost to the squad after scoring a team-best eight goals in only 10 games as a freshman in 2010. Abelardo Barron rounds out the sophomore class and will suit up again this season after sitting out last year.
“I expect our returning players to lead the way for our newcomers. We have two weeks of preseason this year, and that additional week really should help us get things in order before our first match.”
The Rangers welcome 15 newcomers to this year’s roster, including two out-of-staters in Gnande Zleh and Muhamed Bojang, both of whom Jarjoura feels will make an impact.
The Rangers face a tough road in the opening part of the schedule and the always challenging north division in their conference slate. Northwest will play two exhibition matches against Jones County (Aug. 18) and Union University (Aug. 23) as a tune up for the 2012 season-opener at Delta State University on Saturday, Aug. 25 in Cleveland.

Coach Jarjoura expects these newcomers, as well as the handful of returning players, to guide both teams into the postseason.
After going 5-7-3 last year, and just three years removed from a runner-up finish in the north in 2009, Jarjoura expects this year’s team to be right back in the thick of things in the division.
