Exceed your career potential. Earn your master’s degree TODAY! grad_half page_FINAL.indd 1 1/19/22 2:45 PM BIOGRAPHY

Over the length of Jim Peterik’s spectacular career, he has worked with and developed lasting relationships with a long list of fellow (and remarkably talented) artists. Several years ago, Peterik had the idea to record an album and mount a subsequent concert celebrating these friendships and collaborations. Thus began “World Stage.” The CD and show were an immediate sensation, as Peterik pushed his own envelope into different styles and refined those with which he had already had significant success. Audiences were thrilled to see such a rich array of stars together on one stage, playing their own hits and Peterik’s collaborations, interacting with Peterik and the other guests in ways heretofore unseen. Multi-star “mashups” are common on awards shows seen on television, but these are often haphazard and simply a big “jam session.” Not so with World Stage. Peterik assembled a “house band” comprised of the top musicians in the Midwest, if not the entire country, some with their own Grammy nominations and scores of appearances on hit albums. Under Peterik’s guidance, they researched and dove deep into the repertoire of each guest until they were keen and comfortable adapting and executing each nuance as if it was second nature. Peterik’s easy style as a bandleader held one ironclad edict: Honor The Song. And they certainly did ... and do.

Saturday, October 8 at 8 p.m. Wentz Concert Hall DAVY KNOWLES

Despite the songs on “What Happens Next” featuring concise lead guitar playing, fans of Knowles’s fleet-fingered lead style fear not for the blues-rock fire still burns inside him. Knowles says: “This album taught me about restraint in terms of guitar playing. I had to reign it in to let the songs breathe, but I am looking forward to reimagining them and stretching out when we play live.”

“When it came time to record this album, it was all about supporting the songs as opposed to ‘how quickly I can get to the guitar solo’,” the Isle of Man-born, Chicagobased artist says laughing. “I’m not a purist, and the way for roots music to stay relevant is to adapt and progress.”

BIOGRAPHY

On his aptly-titled Provogue Records’ debut, “What Happens Next,” out October 22nd, roots singer-songwriter and guitarist Davy Knowles boldly steps forward with timeless and cohesive songwriting; sleek modern production; and a lyrical, play-for-the-song guitar approach informed from soul, folk, rock, and blues. The 12-song album is just as influenced by The Black Keys, Fantastic Negrito, and Gary Clark Jr., as it is by Muddy Waters, Junior Kimbrough, and R.L. Burnside. It is a cohesive body of work rather than a collection of disparate songs.

Produced by Eric Corne, John Mayall, Joe Walsh and Joe Bonamassa, “What Happens Next” something of a departure from Knowles’s fired-up and reverent take on blues and Americana, featuring poetic songwriting and soulfully emotive vocals that steal the show. The 12-song body of work offers forth a peaks-and-valleys album experience winding through brawny riffs, jazzy blues balladry, and vintage soul before concluding with one of Knowles’s most personal songs released to date. Throughout it all, his guitar playing is brilliantly understated, his rhythm work deft and dynamic. The album bursts open with “Light Of The Moon,” a swaggering riff-rocker replete with vibey 1960s organ flourishes, hooky minor-tinged refrains, and impassioned soul-drenched vocals. Here, Davy’s lead breaks drip sustain, vibrato, and sublime bluesy melodicism.

Knowles first burst onto the scene at the age of 20 with his band Back Door Slam, garnering rave reviews, making national U.S. television appearances (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Good Morning America”), earning extensive triple-A radio airplay, and achieving two Top 5 Billboard Blues charting albums. Since then he has been solo, and he independently released two more studio albums, 2014’s “The Outsider” and 2016’s “Three Miles From Avalon,” which also hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Blues chart. He’s earned plum endorsements from D’Addario strings, PRS guitars, Bludotone amps, and Celestion speakers, became the first musician in history to play live directly to the International Space Station from Mission Control in Houston, and held his own sharing the stage with such heavyweight artists as The Who, Jeff Beck, Gov’t Mule, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kid Rock, Joe Bonamassa, Sonny Landreth, Peter Frampton, Joe Satriani, and Sammy Hagar, among many others.

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!

Thursday, October 20 at 8 p.m., Wentz Concert Hall NATURALLY 7

A lot can happen in 20 years. From simple beginnings, two brothers and five friends have become a vocal phenomenon that has toured the world, blown audiences out of their seats, and completely redefined what is possible with something as basic as the human voice. Perhaps that’s what Roger Thomas envisioned in 1999 when he recruited his brother to become the drummer for his vocal band. At that time, the group was called Last Appeal, and was building a strong local following around the city of New York. That year would end with them being crowned the winner of the prestigious National Harmony Sweepstakes a cappella competition, and recording their first album, entitled “Non Fiction”. In less than two years they would be touring full-time around the country, doing more than 150 shows per year on the college and university circuit.

Riding the wave of newfound popularity, Naturally 7, as they were now known, was signed to their first major label deal, with Sony Music Transglobal, in 2002. For a group that was founded in the U.S., they quickly found increasing success on the international stage. The following year saw another set of firsts for the group, as they would notch their first of many international No. 1 records, Top 40 records, and sold out tours. Over the next few years they would become fan favorites in multiple countries and staples on the music charts.

BIOGRAPHY

Certain experiences burn themselves in your memory from the very first encounter. The jaw-dropping audio pyrotechnics that Naturally 7 put on display every night absolutely belong in that category. “A capella group” so vastly underplays what they create onstage that they had to coin a phrase “Vocal Play” to more accurately depict what they do. Naturally 7 is more than a tightly orchestrated collection of great singers. They transform their voices into actual human instruments, effortlessly producing music of any genre. Their vocal choreography is so perfectly interwoven that they compelled the musical maestro himself, Quincy Jones, to declare them “The best a cappella group in the world!” Their sonic mastery was on full display in a series of unforgettable performances on “The World’s Best” TV show, which premiered on CBS immediately following Super Bowl LIII. Hosted by comedian and “Carpool Karaoke” collaborator James Corden, Naturally 7 reigned supreme as the world’s “Best Group”, and cemented their singular status among the planet’s musical elite.

This was only icing on the cake of a still-vibrant 20-year career, which includes three world tours nearly 500 shows with the incomparable Michael Bublé, shared billing with global phenomenon Coldplay, including a sold out show at the Barclays Center, and owning the spotlight in a pair of national Cheerios commercials. In addition to Bublé, Naturally 7 has shared the stage with numerous icons, including Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Quincy Jones, Sarah Connor, Lionel Richie, Ludacris, The Roots, and more. Counted among their world-famous fans are President Barack Obama, Will.I.Am., Ellen DeGeneres, Craig Ferguson, Bill and Melinda Gates, Jay Leno, Allan Titchmarsh, Mo’Nique, Jools Holland, and Arsenio Hall, along with countless others.

Continued on next page.

Through the years, the band continues to wow crowds around the world with their amazing stage show, and astonishing vocal theatrics, leaving audiences both speechless, and eager to mimic their favorite moment of the one-of-a-kind experience.

For the members of Naturally 7 “Ricky“ Lee Ricardo Cort, Rod Eldridge, Kelvin “Kelz“ Mitchell, Sean Simmonds, Dwight Stewart, Roger Thomas, and Warren Thomas it’s a privilege to do what they love and bring so much joy to the hearts of their fans each and every night. Naturally 7 still tours and performs more than 150 shows a year.

With the release of their latest project, 20/20, Naturally 7 comes full circle, adding a fresh spin on 20 fan favorites, hand selected by fans the world over. This, their eleventh studio album, celebrates their 20th anniversary in the music industry, giving music lovers all they could hope for, and then some. It’s exactly what you would expect. When something is pure magic it’s destined to withstand the test of time. Naturally… Naturally 7.
