Una delle ricorrenze finlandesi più attese è sicuramente il Vappu, tradizionalmente celebrato a cavallo tra il 30 aprile e il 1° maggio. Questo “carnevale primaverile” coinvolge persone di tutte le età e in particolare gli studenti che, indossando il berretto bianco della maturità, affollano la piazza del mercato Kauppatori per lavare Havis Amanda, nota statua dalle fattezze femminili. La mattina del 1° maggio, giornata in cui ricorre anche la Festa dei Lavoratori, la folla si sposta al parco Kaivopuisto per godersi un bel picnic in compagnia e assaporare i primi tepori della stagione. In questo tripudio di palloncini colorati e spumante ovviamente non possono mancare leccornie come il tippaleipä (molto simile agli strauben altoatesini), le ciambelle e il sima, un’ottima varietà di idromele!

a cura di Flavia Di Luzio One of the most awaited Finnish festivities is definitely Vappu, which is traditionally celebrated between April 30 and May 1. This "spring carnival" involves people of all ages and especially students who, wearing their graduation white caps, gather at the Market Square Kauppatori and wash Havis Amanda, a well-known female statue. In the morning of May 1, which is also Workers' Day, the crowd moves to Kaivopuisto Park in order to enjoy a picnic with friends and the first warmth of the season. In this burst of colourful balloons and sparkling wine there's also room for delicacies such as tippaleipä (a type of funnel cake), doughnuts and sima, an excellent variety of mead!
