Norbeck Montessori Center employs approximately thirty-five full-time and part-time staff members. All of our Montessori teachers have Master's degrees in Montessori education and all of our assistants have college degrees.
Faculty & Staff
We are very proud to say that many of our staff members have been with us for over 15 years and several have been with us for over 30 years. Our staff members are carefully selected for their warm, friendly, and nurturing temperaments, not simply for their degrees and experiences. We know this is why so many of our staff come back home to their "Norbeck family" with their own children, grandchildren, and also to teach in our program. Norbeck is very much a family and we strive to incorporate your children and you into our family.
Why Montessori?
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that children learn because they are motivated from within by a natural curiosity and love for knowledge. She revealed the sensitivity of the child to his environment from which they absorb their perceptions and knowledge. Children develop most of their basic attitudes and values about life and learning in the early years. Through a childcentered environment, the children "learn how to learn". The Montessori curriculum consists of instruction in the areas of Practical Life, Sensorial Development, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. The Montessori program stresses self education and training through the use of movement and senses.
About Norbeck
Norbeck Montessori was established in 1975 by Elizabeth Bissett. She founded this school and worked continuously here as a teacher and Director until her passing in September of 2010. The dream of Norbeck started as a small one classroom concept with approximately 20 children. It has since grown into a large 5-classroom facility with the capacity to teach up to 160 children. Our programs are designed to provide you and your child with a variety of options to meet your individual needs. We are open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Full-day and partial-day placement is available to children ages 2 to 6 years old.
