Brother Tom and I were invited to sell the National Pheasant Forever Banquet Sale – Sat. night in Des Moines. People must like to hunt. The 1st item we sold was for absolutely nothing and it sold for $65,000.00. In about an hour and a half hundreds of thousands of dollars were raised. Hoepfully we will se more pheasants around here. I must be getting old. Went to see the movie 50 Shades of Grey and I fell asleep. I wasn’t impressed at all. A good ole’ movie like Black Beauty or Ole Yeller would have been more interesting. Where did the good clean movies go? Finally I hope the angels stay in heaven for a while. They have been coming to earth way to often the last 2 months. Our sympathy goes out to the Roger Collins, Elmer Mordhorst and Bob Degner families. All were great friends and truly missed. Slow down and smell the roses. – JR Pauley

Our dear friend, Roger Collins, from Arion passed away this week. Our sympathy goes out to his entire family. Buyer #169 will be retired. Harlan Northrup from rural Griswold passed away. Every time I think of Harlan I smile. A great free spirit, Harlan loved a cattle auction and loved the cattle industry. He truly will be missed. Rest in peace my dear friend. Knowing Harlan, he won’t be resting! FED CATTLE/WEIgh COWS TUES, FEB 17Th: Fed cattle were very active. Boy do we need more high quality fed cattle! It was an extremely good market. Weigh cows are much stronger but definitely a two-tiered market. Packers are fighting for lean cows/bulls but absolutely turning their noses up at the fat cows. I’m guessing/hoping we might see the Fed cows get a little better soon. Weigh bulls have been on fire. One black bull 2260# @ $160 = $3616 and another Red bull 2415# @ $156 = $3767. My guess is those bulls cost less than that as yrlings. Getting 3-4 calf crops and more money in your pocket, that isn’t too bad!
