Welcome to Landia It is true that we have been manufacturing pumps since 1933, but we are keener than ever to produce the very best solutions – and match that with unrivalled aftersales support. We thrive on providing long-term solutions for our customers, focusing on low CO2 impact, better efficiency and performance, whilst making every effort we possibly can to reduce power consumption and improve Health & Safety. We are not part of the throwaway culture. As a Danish company, we are subject to very strict national regulations on energy consumption, waste handling, and wastewater – and rightly so. Throughout our production process and beyond, we work to minimize environmental impact. As well as Denmark, we have long-established business units in the UK, the USA, China, Norway, Germany – and solid representation all over the world. In order to provide the very best technical solutions, everyone involved in the sale of Landia equipment has an engineering background. Our GasMix system is a good example of how we find the right answer to your specific application. GasMix is a relatively simple process that will improve your gas yields - but at the same time, reduce your energy bills - and provide a safer environment for your workforce. By working closely together and understanding your needs and aims, we can ensure that your digester is being mixed to its optimum level, helping bring about benefits throughout the whole process.

TARGET 6.3 Being part of the wastewater industry for decades we constantly strive to develop our solutions towards a better world.

TARGET 7.2 Landia originate from a part of Denmark where renewable energy simply is something we do – it is part of our heritage.

TARGET 8 Great working conditions, respecting other people and cultures, honesty and integrity is part of who we are.

Landia GasMix – how it works

When the GasMix chopper pump is running, thick liquid from the bottom of the digester is drawn into the pump where the solids are chopped before being discharged and pumped back into the digester. This accelerates the digestion process and it prevents clogging of pipes and nozzles. In the first stage of the mixing process, the liquid is injected into the upper half of the tank while biogas is aspirated from the top of the tank and mixed into the liquid. In the second stage of the mixing process, the liquid is injected into the lower half of the tank causing powerful mixing of the tank content. Depending on the type and size of the digester there might be a third stage where the liquid is injected into the very upper part of the digester preventing solids to build up a layer of crust on the surface.

Unique Advantages  Improved sludge reduction  Sludge concentrations up to 12%

 No crust on liquid surface  Genuine external mixing system

1. Landia GasMix Chopper Pump A key component in the GasMix system is the chopper pump. In addition to providing the correct flow and pressure for the GasMix nozzles its integrated chopping device will chop solids into smaller particles, resulting in improved biogas process – and more biogas produced! 2. Landia GasMix Nozzle The uniqueness of the Landia GasMix lies in the design of the GasMix nozzle. Years of development has gone into this to achieve the most efficient performance. When sludge is pumped through the GasMix nozzle, biogas is sucked from the gas holding part of the digester, mixed with the sludge and injected under pressure back into the digester, creating not only a horizontal mixing pattern but also a vertical pattern: true 3D-mixing. 3. Mixing Nozzer – Iower The sludge is re-circulated through the lower mixing nozzle in order to create a rotational movement in the lower part of the tank and to avoid settlement on the tank floor. 4. “Crust Breaker” Mixing Nozzle – upper The sludge is re-circulated through the upper mixing nozzle in order to create a rotational movement in the upper part of the digester and to avoid, or even break down, crust on the liquid surface. 5. Automated Valves The Landia GasMix system is a flexible mixing system and the mixing process is controlled by means of a number of automated valves – pneumatic or electrical. This means the operation time of each nozzle is variable depending on the sludge characteristics and can be fine-tuned to provide effective mixing with the lowest possible parasitic load.

Cost benefits No need for hatches, platforms, ladders and structural support for mixers. No downtime – no loss of biogas production during servicing. 5

The Chopper Pump – the heart of the GasMix System

The Landia MPTK-GI chopper pump is an integral part of every Landia GasMix system. The chopper pump is designed for use under severe conditions and can pump sludges and other difficult to handle substrates with higher solids content and viscosity than almost all other pumps. The pump’s ability to cut large particles ensures that the GasMix system never stops and contributes to improved digester efficiency. The Landia chopper pump is simple and robust in its construction, easy to service and with proven low life-time costs.

A unique mixing system - for anaerobic digesters

Landia GasMix is the ideal mixing solution for anaerobic digesters. Most importantly it is all externally mounted with no rotating equipment inside the digester. The entire system, including the nozzles, is mounted on the outside of the digester. Landia GasMix is hence the only digester mixing system where the digester never has to be opened for service or repair of the mixing system. This advantage also leads to significantly improved Health and Safety conditions. Landia GasMix is suitable for most types of digesters and is suitable for a wide variety of sludges with a TS concentration of up to 12%.

A Complete System – guaranteed A key part of each Landia GasMix system is the pipework that connects all the components in accordance with the designer’s specification. Landia is responsible for the pipe design - this is one less thing for the busy project manager to consider, saving time and money!

 Customized for each individual project  Flexible pipe system without welding  Flow-optimized design  Easy to replace parts of the pipe system  Extra thickness for increased lifetime  Available in both stainless and mild steel  Complete delivery and assembly including start-up

Process benefits Improved sludge reduction – University research* proves higher biogas production due to enhanced cell destruction and viscosity reduction. This in the end results in improved sludge reduction compared to traditional mixing.

Three cast-in-situ concrete digesters each equipped with one Landia GasMix 30 HP. “We didn’t want any breaks that would interfere with our gas production. Lowest possible price wasn’t our objective, not for one second. We were making decisions on what was most appropriate – for the long-term. A mixing system that could produce the most gas yet be the lowest on maintenance made perfect sense.” Bob King, Senior Engineer, Jersey’s Department for Infrastructure “It is interesting that many digesters in the industry run on 2 to 2.5 % solids, when with a simple retrofit to a superior mixing system, they could increase to 4 % and see an immediate pay off.” Dave Garnett, Technical Specialist (wastewater) at Doosan Enpure.

The digesters are glass fused to steel tanks built on top of existing concrete foundation. The vertical height of the tank is 47 ft. The digester is equipped with double membrane gas holder. Landia supplied two GasMix 40 HP for each digester with an estimated power consumption of only 15-20 kw/h. Specific benefits of GasMix compared to traditional, mechanical mixing: • Quicker and cheaper installation, as all components are placed on the outside of the tank. • More efficient anaerobic process and thus a quicker gas production. • Low maintenance costs, as all mechanical and electrical components can be serviced from the outside without emptying the tank. • No prolonged downtime, because the tank will never have to be emptied in order to inspect or service the mixing equipment.

For the Yeongcheon project Landia supplied two mixing systems for each digester. Each mixer is 40 HP however designed for on/ off operation. After fine tuning the system the mixing system now runs 24/7 due to increased biogas production. The two digesters produce approximately 30% more biogas than expected.
