s another year winds to a close, we have all been through some really tough times. The economic situation in our country continues to worsen, Hurricane Isaac recently wreaked his havoc on Louisiana, and even in our Nola Wedding Guide family, we have endured the passing of Nonney’s sister while putting together this issue. Things have seemed to be spinning out of control. But there is one thing that we are completely and totally in control of, and that is the way we think. I would like to challenge everyone to find something positive and beautiful to focus on to offset any negatives that you have in your life. We often harp and complain and dwell on the negatives, but hardly ever focus or talk of the beautiful things all around us. I am sad to say that I have seen many brides so worried and upset over minor things that may or may not have happened on their wedding day, that they missed the love and beauty that was surrounding them. That is true of life as well. Hurricanes, financial issues, relationship problems and illness will always be among us. But there is also beauty and love everywhere. Just as a bride’s wedding day can never be re-lived, life follows the same path. Memories lost can never be re-lived. So live today as if it is your wedding day! Choose to think only of positive things. When negativity creeps into your mind, change it. Re-train your mind to think positively. In this issue, I have written an article on same-sex marriage in Louisiana. With the help of Jessica Bayard, we both attacked this topic and really sought to understand the differing views on the subject. Although it is an extremely controversial topic that has the potential to draw emotional responses from many, I though it was very important to discuss it. We are not your typical wedding magazine and will always seek to inspire and help all people in their pursuit of the perfect wedding day. While my personal opinions are just that, I want to make sure that the Nola Wedding Guide is always inclusive and open to everyone that wants help in planning their wedding. I hope that all of you find the article interesting and informative. I would love to know your thoughts. I would like to wish all a happy holiday season and happy wedding planning! [ same-sex marriage in Louisiana ] Yay or nay?
T
he age of cultural upheaval is upon us as traditional ideas of normality clash with newer progressive ways of thinking. This cultural upheaval is growing in the local wedding industry in the form of same-sex marriage. Although same-sex marriage is not legally recognized in Louisiana, many gay and lesbian couples are choosing to hold their weddings here because of our distinct cultural charm and romantic ambiance. The couples will then legally wed in a state that currently recognizes same-sex unions. Apart from the romance and emotion of being one with the person you love, marriage has many legal and financial benefits as well. Some of these include: • Filing joint income tax returns with the IRS • Inheriting a share of your spouse’s estate • Obtaining insurance benefits through a spouse’s employer Because the federal government does not recognize same-sex marriage as legal, none of the benefits of marriage under federal law can apply to same-sex couples. This is the case even if they are wed in a state that recognizes same-sex marriage.

As a native of New Orleans, I feel that the majority of the people in Louisiana are some of the kindest, easy going, open people in the world. However, we are also a very traditional and proud community that will fiercely protect and defend what we deem to be right. As more and more of our local wedding vendors are receiving inquiries about their services from same-sex couples, we feel it is our duty to not only recognize this growing trend, but to discuss it. So we would like to pose the question, “Is same-sex marriage right for Louisiana?” Movements In America, we have seen two major civil rights movements: the Women’s Rights Movement (1848 -1920) and The Civil Rights Movement (1950’s and 60’s.) Both of these movements led to equal voting rights and anti- discrimination laws for women and African Americans. We are now living in the age of a third movement, the Gay Rights Movement. As was the case with the formerly mentioned movements, The Gay Rights Movement has become a huge political and social issue that is eliciting strong, vocal opinions on both sides. Now more than ever, more attention is paid to political candidates stances on same-sex marriage.

Religious Views In Roman Catholic teachings, marriage is the expression of the underlying purpose for man and woman. It is the basis for procreation and the symbolic expression of the union of Christ and the Catholic Church. Just recently, a firestorm of controversy was created when Chick-Fil-A president Dan Cathy stated, “I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, “We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.” ChickFil-A was not charged with discrimination in hiring or service, but simply with the fact that its president supports a traditional view of marriage. The threats subsequently made against Chick-Fil-A, betray the principle of religious liberty that is enshrined within the U.S. Constitution. Civic officials in some of the nation’s largest cities have openly threatened to oppose Chick-Fil-A for the singular reason that its president openly spoke of his Christian convictions concerning marriage. Religious belief is by far the number one reason that most who oppose same-sex marriage cite as their reason for doing so. In different ancient cultures, marriage was more of a business arrangement, joining families together for mutual benefit. However, as the Christian church grew, marriage became more ecclesiastically governed. During the Protestant Reformation, figures like Martin Luther and John Calvin recognized marriage as a civil matter and not under the aegis of the church. Still, there are many Catholics and non-Catholics alike who recognize marriage as a Christian affair, and further, believe it is divinely endorsed as a heterosexual institution.
Defense of Marriage Act To date, 10 countries have legalized same-sex marriage and many more have taken steps in the same direction. In the U.S., same-sex marriage is recognized only at the state level. The federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which the U.S. Congress approved in 1996, prevents the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages and leaves it up to the states. The majority of states have not legalized same sex marriage. There are only six states in which same-sex marriage is legal: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. The District of Columbia has also recently passed same-sex marriage legislation. Louisiana Votes On September 18, 2004 in Louisiana, by a 78-22 percent margin, voters approved a state constitutional amendment that banned same-sex marriages and civil unions. Since then, LGBT (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered) advocacy groups, such as Forum for Equality, have sought to educate voters and law makers alike to eliminate discrimination for those in the LGBT community and to promote their civil rights advancement. Shortly after the Louisiana constitutional amendment was passed, Forum for Equality took legal action against it. However, the Louisiana Supreme Court upheld the voters’ decision for the amendment keeping the ban in place. There was a victory for the LGBT community shortly following. According to

Local Wedding For now, New Orleans’ same-sex couples have to go to other states to wed legally, but it doesn’t seem to be much of an obstacle to those who are determined to publically proclaim their love in our great city. ClintBrookshire and Chad Spencer will soon be exchanging vows in front of family and friends in New Orleans. They chose New Orleans over California as their preferred wedding location.. Clint says of New Orleans, “The culture rich city, laid back people, and fabulous food made it the obvious choice. The city is so wrapped up in history and diversity that when our guests get their Save the Date reminders, they will say, ‘This is so Clint and Chad!’” Although the couple resides in Dallas, Chad is originally from the northshore. Having their wedding in New Orleans makes it much easier for his family to attend. Clint adds, “I was curious and a little hesitant as to how the whole thing would play out, but we have been so overwhelmed with the response we have gotten from all of our vendors so far. Everyone has been so accommodating and kind to us. So far, everything has gone off without a hitch!” The couple plans on going to another state to be legally wed, but they say it isn’t about the legality. They simply want to celebrate their love surrounded by the support of family and friends.
SarahJane Brady, managing director of Forum for Equality Louisiana, “In conjunction with the City of New Orleans (Thomas Robichaux, who is on the board for the Forum, was the lead defender) we were able to keep the domestic partnership registry in New Orleans. It predated the Amendment and the court ruled in our favor.” Today, the Forum is concentrating on other issues such as anti-bulling, second parent adoption and employment nondiscrimination legislation.
The Big Easy As the tide of civil rights for the LGBT community continues to turn, we at the Nola Wedding Guide will continue to give ALL potential brides and grooms only the best information on planning their weddings. We will also continue to fervently recommend Louisiana and New Orleans as the ONLY place to wed. Legal or otherwise, there is no place on Earth that host’s celebrations as well as we do. We encourage all couples to visit our reception venues, see our photographers, and listen to our bands. Hold your weddings in Louisiana and have the time of your life with your family and friends. Changing Tides It seems that despite the efforts of some states to ban same-sex marriage (North Carolina just adopted a constitutional ban on it in May), popular opinion on same-sex marriage is changing. According to the PollingReport.com database, over the last year an average of 50 percent of American adults support same-sex marriage rights while 45 percent oppose it. In fact, since 2004, support for same-sex marriage has been increasing, and opposition to it has been decreasing. Perhaps this will translate at the polls on the state and national levels in upcoming elections.

She has recently become the event coordinator at the newest French Quarter venue, the Petite Bourbon, located at 530 Bourbon Street. We had a chance to sit down with Lisa and ask a little about the history of the venue as well as her experience there so far.

NWG: How long have you been in business? Darryl Toy and Timothy Mashburn had an idea after the rage of Katrina to restore a historic building on Bourbon Street where people could enjoy and “momentarily” forget the devastation. Thus evolved 530 Bourbon, dba Petite Bourbon. The property was originally purchased in 1942 by Darryl Toy’s family to house Chinese Immigrants coming into America. After years of creative visions, the final phase of the romantic courtyard was completed in March 2012.
NWG: As far as weddings are concerned, do you have any advice for perspective brides? To all the excited brides, whether you are a do-it-yourself person or someone who wants to just show up and say “I do”, relax, breathe, and take in the moment. Most of all smile and decide which battles are worth fighting. You may not be able to have everything you have ever dreamed of in a wedding, but I can certainly be your advocate and help you sort through the process. It’s YOUR DAY and you are a BEAUTIFUL bride!

C
rystal Johnson and Rai-Jon Westley met through a mutual friend, Shantrelle, on Thanksgiving night in 2007. Crystal was working at East Jefferson Hospital as a registered nurse and had been telling Shantrelle that she couldn’t meet any “good” guys. Shantrelle had a similar conversation with Rai-Jon weeks prior, so she figured that she would introduce him to Crystal. That Thanksgiving night, Shantrelle brought Rai-Jon along to a pot lunch that the hospital staff was having. Crystal instantly noticed the handsome man that Shantrelle was with, but figured that he was Shantrelle’s date. Shantrelle introduced Crystal and Rai-Jon and they immediately connected. They exchanged numbers and became fast friends. They continued to speak on the phone everyday from their initial meeting, and then Rai-Jon asked Crystal out for their first date. He quizzed Shantrelle on what Crystal liked to do then brought her to Olive Garden, her favorite date restaurant, for dinner. They went bowling after, where Crystal “let” him win. They went to a park and spoke for hours under the stars. Crystal says it was a magical night.

In February of 2011, Rai-Jon proposed to Crystal. He bought tickets to the Chrisette Michele concert at a local casino. She is one of Crystal’s favorite singers. As they were leaving the hotel suite to go to the concert, Rai-Jon got down on one knee and asked Crystal to be his wife. He had secretly set up his camera to record the scene, which Crystal says she watches all the time. Crystal and Rai-Jon were married on May 12, 2012 at Southern Oaks Plantation. Crystal says that the venue was breathtaking. The grounds were immaculate and the very knowledgeable staff paid special attention to all details, big and small, to ensure a magnificent event. They chose North Productions to capture their event. Crystal says that working with Ryan and his wife, Lori, was a joy. She adds, “Ryan isn’t just a photographer. He’s an photographing genius!” Pearl’s Place provided the bridesmaids’ dresses and A Regal Limousines was chosen to provide the transportation. Crystal says that the staff was prompt and professional and the fleet was immaculate.

abrielle Himbert & Brian Cook met at Colonial Bowling Lanes in Harahan. Gabby’s parents own the bowling Pro Shop inside of the bowling alley. Brian began working at Colonial in August of 2004 after moving from Slidell. Since they were friends before they began dating, they didn’t have a set first date. They would hang out with a group of friends and began doing more and more things together. They started going on dates in November of 2004 and officially started “dating” around February of 2005, when Gabby was a sophomore and Brian was a junior in high school. They are high school sweethearts. Brian proposed at Gabby’s Coronation when she was Empress of the Krewe of Caesar. She was presented, and all of the events of the night were almost complete when the Captain of the Krewe called her to the center of the floor. In front of everyone, Brian proposed. They were married on July 7, 2012 at Holy Name of Jesus Church on Loyola’s Campus. Gabby graduated

from Loyola in May of 2011 and from the moment she saw the church, she knew she wanted to get married there. The reception was held at Rosy’s Jazz Hall. When deciding on a reception location, Gabby and Brian immediately knew that they wanted something that represented New Orleans and everything it is. When they walked into Rosy’s, they instantly fell in love with the space; the exposed brick, the courtyard and the atrium were all beautiful. Gabby says, “The night of the reception everything was perfect, the food was amazing. This was by far the best choice we could have made. It was the least stressful part of the wedding planning process. Steve and Darlene at Rosy’s were a pleasure to work with and they always made sure that they knew what was going on throughout the planning. We are still getting compliments on how great the food was and how nice Rosy’s is.” To capture every moment, Gabby and Brian went with Stacy Marks Photography. “He captured the day as we remember it, says Gabby, “We got all of the pictures that we wanted, and going through the pic-

It poured to the point that the streets were flooding the day of our wedding but I didn’t let that worry me because I couldn’t control it. All of the dresses came from The Bridal Boutique by MaeMe. Gabby’s dress was actually a two in one dress; the bottom of it came off for the reception and she was able to enjoy the night without the hassle of the dress dragging on the ground. The bridesmaids’ dresses were fun and the perfect color. Gabby says, “Mandy and Melissa at MaeMe truly know how to take care of their customers and make them feel special.”

They used John’s Tuxedos for all of the guys. Brian wanted something less traditional so he went with a longer coat for the tuxedo with black shirts instead of the white shirts. Gabby and Brian say that their experience with John’s was great.
Going into the planning process, Brian knew that he wanted a great videographer. This was one of the most important vendors for them. They looked for a while but continued coming back to Dyle Films. They were very happy with their decision. “Kelly (with Dyle Films) was great to work with and we cannot wait to see the trailer and full video”, Gabby says, “We are even having a “viewing party” when we get our full video.”
Brian wanted a DJ and Gabby wanted a band, so they compromised and someone play the three first dance songs on the piano. Then David Storm from Omega Sound got the reception going. He kept the dance floor full for the entire four hours. Gabby and Brian say, ”Friends and family continue to tell us that it was the best wedding they have ever been to. We couldn’t be happier.”
Gabby and Brian went with Big Easy Limos for their transportation and couldn’t have been happier. Big Easy Limos was the easiest company to work with, according to the couple, and had the best customer service. Gabby says, “The limos were clean, on time, and the drivers were very friendly. We would recommend them to any couple that is stuck when it comes to limos.”

H
aley Sims & Brent Williams met at a wedding. It was actually Brent’s first wedding where Haley was the maid of honor. Haley had just reunited with an old friend, who was Brent’s then fiancé, and was asked to be the Maid of Honor at the wedding only three months away. Haley soon found out that her friend was the same destructive person that she remembered from before and hadn’t changed, so she vowed that after the wedding, she would never speak to her again. Four months later, Haley found out that Brent and the girl divorced, so Haley sent him a message on Facebook. They had several Facebook conversations, and then agreed to watch Sunday Night Football at Haley’s house. Though Brent was a Cowboys fan, Haley overlooked. They barely watched the game. They laughed and talked all night and haven’t stopped since. Haley and Brent went to New Orleans to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and they wanted to look at Petite Bourbon. parents were friends with the owners, but she had not seen Petite Bourbon in person. While there, Brent asked Haley to walk out on the balcony to look at the view. That’s when he popped the question! Haley responded, “Shut up!” She started to cry and hugged and kissed him. They wed on March 24, 2012 at the Petite Bourbon in New Orleans. Haley and Brent were given a free ceremony and reception at the venue as a “thank you” to Haley’s parents for their hospitality during Hurricane Katrina. Haley says, “I have four words: Un Be Leave Able! The courtyard was gorgeous. It was exactly what I wanted and more, raw and romantic. The food was 4 stars. The open bar had everything. The balcony overlooking Bourbon St. was a blast! The endless supply of beads was awesome. It was the best party I’ve ever been to.” Haley’s linens and décor were provided by the venue. The coordinator, Lisa Asaro, provided all of the flowers for the event.

andice Bourque and Dustin Hanks met in first grade. They both attended Immaculate Conception School. Dustin was her best friend’s older brother and Kandice had the biggest crush on him. It wasn’t until after Hurricane Katrina that they went on their first date.

Dustin asked Kandice to see a movie at a theater in Kenner by the Esplanade Mall as it was the only movie theater opened right after the hurricane. Their families were thrilled when they started dating. Kandice says that she and Dustin have a great time together and he always knows how to make her laugh.
The theme of the wedding was traditional with a touch of glitz. The colors were Latte and Blush pink. They accented all of the tables and decor with rhinestone centerpieces and pink flowers. They also had a completely covered rhinestone cake stand. Kandice and Dustin wanted their guests to have a great time and feel like they were at a big party.
On October 27, 2011, Dustin proposed. Kandice says, “It was just him and I, and it was perfect.” The couple wed on June 23, 2012 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor in Westwego. The reception followed at English Turn Country Club. Kandice and Dustin said their experience with English Turn was awesome. “I worked with Cammy Livingston and Chef J.R. Both of who were spectacular, Kandice says. “Cammy was

Be very organized and know your budget. Being organized will help everything go a lot smoother in the planning process. Have a binder with dividers to keep everything in place. In this binder, keep all receipts and email copies from vendors. Just remember the key to easy wedding planning is organization. or some couples, their wedding day marks a complete life transition, not just as husband and wife, but also making the transition to living together. When the honeymoon is over and life gets back to normal, they still have to integrate their living situation to accommodate both of them, comfortably. This can get tricky. We have come up with a few bits of advice for these couples. Consolidating. From a logistical standpoint, moving in together requires couples to consolidate their belongings and merge two separate houses/apartments into one. You could select the better version of the duplicate furniture you both own and separately purchase additional furniture like a coffee table, couch and new bed to avoid any quibbles. Don’t feel like you need to buy all new stuff to make it “our place.” The new space is supposed to have elements of both of your former selves as well as elements of your love. Discuss finances. When you live together, who pays for what can become kind of hazy since you’re likely making meals together, buying odds and ends for the house, purchasing furniture, etc. Talk about how you will handle paying for
certain things. Just make sure that you and your partner are on the same page with your finances and both feel comfortable with your financial plan. Perhaps getting a joint bank account and putting in a percentage of each person’s income can help pay for the majority of the expenses. Discussing each person’s financial situation before moving in together is critical, since the majority of divorces are caused by money issues.

Remain a couple and don’t turn into just roommates. The daily routine of going to work, running errands and doing chores can have you leading separate lives. You may still be affectionate and love each other, but definitely spend quality time together or enjoy date-like activities. Once you recognized this pattern and talk about it, things should go back to normal. Work as a team and don’t just cohabitate.

Common Sense. Make sure to set your expectations before moving in together. Set house rules. Pick your battles and have patience. Try not to judge your partner’s habits. We all have odd things we do at home (without anyone watching), so try to be understanding of these traits.

aishauna Calloway & Ralph Pierre, Jr. met in 2002 during their freshmen year at Xavier University. The both enrolled in a speech class, and sat next to each other during every class. They soon became friends.
After graduating, Raishauna & Ralph kept in touch, and their friendship strengthened. They did not start dating until December 2007. They decided to go to Celebration in the Oaks in City Park. They both knew from that point that it was more than just a friendship. Ralph proposed to Raishauna on New Year’s Day 2011. They were watching a football game on television. They started talking about life and how much had happened over the last few years. Ralph began to tell Raishauna how happy he was to have had her in his life during all the difficulties that he went through, continuing to encourage him. As he spoke, he stood up, kneeled down in front of her, and asked her to marry him. The ceremony and reception took place on May 5, 2012 at English Turn Country Club. The ceremony was

held outside in front of the lake, and the reception followed inside the ballroom. Raishauna says, “Choosing the location for my wedding was one of the best decisions I made during my wedding planning process. She said Event Rental did a great job making sure that all of her needs were met. She was very satisfied with the quality of their products and variety they had to offer. But, is there really a secret to better health and happiness? The Harvard Health Review recently offered their take on this very topic, and not surprisingly, their conclusion was that it was exercise. As they discussed and I completely agree, the activity levels of our generation have declined. With televisions, computers, video games and now the ability to do almost anything on a cell phone, people seem entirely too occupied with starring at a screen and not nearly occupied enough with getting up and moving around. We know the health benefits of exercise and how incorporating it can help you avoid chronic diseases, maintain a healthy weight and help with mental focus. What the Harvard Health Review touched on that I think is valuable advice, is what constitutes a good exercise program. They offered the components of exercise they felt were most important and the general health advantages of each. So, as you begin a boot camp or are simply starting your own fitness program, make sure you include the following components for a balanced exercise program: Aerobic Activity – This should be at the heart of your exercise program. Improved cardiac function is important for calorie burning and better blood flow to help avoid chronic diseases. Strength Training – strength training is Important for strengthening bones and to build lean muscle mass. We tend to lose both as we age, so strength training through resistance exercises can be extremely helpful as we get older. Flexibility Exercises – Muscle tightness leads to aches and pains and can also be a factor in significant injuries. Keep your muscles and tendons elastic to be able to handle the rigors of your day. Balance Exercises – As you age, balance can be critical. Avoiding falls means avoiding broken bones and other complications that can keep you inactive. Even temporary inactivity can be detrimental to your overall health.

hen you begin shopping for your perfect wedding gown, its easy to be overwhelmed by all the terms and descriptions. Here is a quick breakdown of some of the more common terminology used when discussing wedding attire.
GOWN SHAPES/FEATURES
A-LINE: Typically refers to skirt design characterized by a flared hem and a close fitting waist, often gathered into a train. BALL-GOWN: Fitted at the waist, and then poufs out into a ball-gown bell shape. DROP WAIST: Waistline positioned several inches below natural waist. EMPIRE WAISTLINE: Shortened waist style created by attaching the skirt to the bodice just below the bustline. MERMAID: Sheath gown to the knees and then a flare out. PANNIER: Fabric draping on both hips to accent a more sheath-style dress. PICK UPS: Portions of gown skirt raised and stitched to create random dropping. SHEATH: Straight, fitted gown, often floor length and worn with a detachable train. TIERED SKIRT: Skirt characterized by a series of layered panels that fall in graduated lengths. TRUMPET SKIRT: Skirt flared at or below the knee. WRAP: The skirt overlaps and wraps at the waist.

ASYMMETRICAL: Revealing one shoulder: Can be found with one sleeve, but usually found in gowns with one strap. BATEAU NECKLINE: Boat-shaped design formed by a straight line between the shoulders, often dipping in front. May or may not reveal the shoulders and is usually trimmed with lace. CORSET: A tight-fitting top with boning for support. Usually laces up back for custom fit. HALTER: A top in which the straps wrap around to tie or fasten behind the neck. QUEEN ANNE NECKLINE: Sculptured design that is high on the sides and back, with an angled open bodice with a sweetheart shape. QUEEN ELIZABETH NECKLINE: High portrait collar that stands up in the back and closed in a vee in front. RUCHE: Strips of pleated fabric or lace used as a trim or the entire bodice.

Lets talk about shoes. They must be comfortable for standing, walking, and dancing. Break them in at home on a carpeted floor. Choose fabric shoes that complement your gown and those of your attendants. Take your shoes to all fittings since hemlines are measured up from the floor when you are wearing your shoes. It’s worth repeating: buy for comfort, even if it costs a little more. When selecting the jewelry you will be wearing, take into consideration the type of wedding (casual or elegant) you are having as well as the dress you will be wearing. S
amantha Spanja & Gary Overton Jr met seven and a half years ago while Samantha was at work. Gary stopped by to say hello to his aunt, Samantha’s coworker. His aunt was always trying to set Samantha up, so when Gary came through the door, she thought that was her golden opportunity. She introduced the two and they talked for a while. They hung out as friends before the actual dating started. The day Gary proposed was May 8th, 2007. Gary and Samantha love going to City Park for picnics and feeding the ducks and raccoons. They were getting ready for Jazz Fest when Gary suggested they stop by the park for a bit. They sat waiting for the ducks, but they never showed. Ready to leave, Samantha turned to Gary, but he insisted they stay a little while longer. He said he wanted to ask her something and he brought her to City Park because it had meaning and memories in their relationship. As he pulled the ring box out of his pocket, he got down on one knee. Before he could ask the question the water works began.

Samantha and Gary were wed at the St. Louis Cathedral on May 26, 2012. They both have always loved the Cathedral, and thought it to be one the most beautiful churches. And with their New Orleans themed wedding, they knew it couldn’t get any more New Orleans then that. Their photographer was G.K. Photography. From the moment they met with George, he made them feel like they had known him for years. Samantha says, “He is so down to earth and not to mention an amazing photographer. Gary and I will definitely be using G.K. as our photographer for life.” For her make up, Samantha chose Make Me Up, located on Magazine Street. She was extremely pleased at the results. She says, “The girls at Make Me Up were really great and the make up was amazing!” Samantha and Gary chose Omega Sound and Entertainment as their DJ. “He got the crowd moving and kept the momentum going all night, “ they said.

[ wedding dress storage ] It was love at first sight, the perfect fit for your perfect day - your wedding dress. Although you wore it only once, if you take as much care in preserving your wedding dress as you did in choosing it, then it can be enjoyed as a family heirloom for years to come-symbolizing love and family. Here are a few tips to keep your beloved garment as beautiful as the day you wore it. 1.
You can either have your dress professionally preserved, or you can do it yourself. Either way, your dress should be cleaned within six weeks following your wedding day. Even the smallest stains cause the dress to yellow over time.
2.
Professional gown preservation costs between $150 and $500, depending on the amount of soilage. It is recommended to bring your dress to a reputable dry cleaner who cleans about 100 dresses or more a year.
3. If you choose to take things into your own hands, then you must first decide between box and hanger storage. It may be more practical to store the dress in a box, but hanger storage is the best way to prevent hard-to-remove creases. Either way, buy plenty of acid-free tissue paper. 4. For box storage, line an acid-free cardboard box with the tissue paper and lay the hem of the dress in the box. Fold the dress like an accordion, putting tissue paper between each fold. Stuff the bodice of the dress with crumpled tissue. Put some layers of tissue on top and put on the lid (make sure the lid is solid and does not have a plastic window). Store the box in a cool, dry closet. Check the condition of the dress each year, and re-pack so the folds are in different places. 5. For hanger storage, wrap a wide hanger with cotton batting and cover it with muslin. Buy an acid-free cardboard “dress shaper� and place it over the hanger. Wrap it in tissue and place the dress over it. Stuff the bodice of the dress and any deep folds with the acid-free tissue paper. Cover the dress with a muslin garment bag and hang it in a cool, dry closet, taking care not to crush it with other clothing. Check the dress each year and wash the muslin cover.

Technology has reinvented the way modern brides think of wedding registries forever. The steps that a bride takes, from announcing engagements to choosing a style of china, can now all be done online. Brides now have access to international stores and the convenience of linking all registries into one, central location. Timelines One should start the registry process about 6-12 months prior to the wedding. When beginning, it’s a great idea to send out registry announcement cards. These cards will help your guests to get an idea of what types of gifts you’re expecting, and to better manage their time in choosing one. Below is a registry timeline to help you with organizing and making your registry experience more efficient for everyone. urricanes are a part of life living in Southeast Louisiana, as we all well know after recently experiencing Hurricane Isaac. In the course of just a few days, many well thought out wedding plans can be erased. How does one combat the woes of cancellation and losing all of those deposits and possibly thousands of dollars? Wedding insurance can make a seemingly disastrous situation a bit easier to endure.
Numerous insurance companies offer wedding insurance policies with a variety of coverage options. Wedding insurance is not that uncommon despite its unpopularity. It basically protects a couple’s investment from anything problematic that is out of their control. A good policy will reimburse any expenses incurred by the problem. Reasonable price Wedding insurance comes at a reasonable price considering the financial loss that could realistically occur. Just like car or home insurance, couples can purchase a basic insurance policy that covers loss of photos, videos, attire, presents, rings and deposits. Policies can usually cost anywhere between $155 and $550 depending on the coverage chosen. It is advisable to purchase wedding insurance twelve months prior to the wedding date or immediately upon reserving the reception venue. Purchasing coverage only a few months before the wedding date might lessen the value of the policy considering the planning process is more than 50% over. Most insurance policies will be the same price 12 months in advance as they will one month in advance.

The sounds of the instruments (trumpet, tuba, trombone, sax, banjo and clarinet) are coupled with a snare and bass drum. A Grand Marshal will lead your wedding guests around a French Quarter block announcing and celebrating your event. These parades began back in the 19th century, with organizations advertising for burials and honoring the deceased all in one announcement. Many newlyweds can be seen with their umbrellas, white for the bride, black for the groom, and their guests holding handkerchiefs as they follow the band.

If you want a traditional New Orleans wedding, you want to hire a brass band for a Second Line Parade. It is a way of expressing the unique local flavor of the city. The Second Line is the parade of people following the musicians, who are called the “First Line”.
