I would like to start off by thanking all sponsors, vendors, local community groups, Windy City Amusements, Menards and Walmart and all of you, the general public, for making this past July’s Proud American Days another successful community event. Even though the weather on Thursday and Friday put a damper on the events scheduled for those days, Saturday and Sunday proved to be wonderful, both weather wise and in attendance. Sunday’s Military Tribute event was very well attended and we want to thank all of you who made the effort to come out on Sunday morning to honor our military men and women. I’m sure most of you would agree with me that summers are way too short and that winter seems to come quicker every year. Your Park District Staff realizes that some of the best ways to cope with winter is to get involved with the vast array of high quality recreational programs we have to offer. There are numerous programs to choose from inside this catalog, but I would like to highlight a few of the NEW programs that are available. These new programs include: • • • •

Cooking Classes – Lil’ Sprouts Core Cooking and L.E.A.N. (Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitude, Nutrition) Teen Pizza & Paint Peter Rabbit’s Breakfast Advanced Basketball Training

Please take an in-depth look at ALL the programs that are available. You will be surprised on how being active makes the winter months more enjoyable. Your Park District is highlighting the importance of recreational activity with its immediate and long-term positive effects through a new catalog theme of Beyond The Swing Set. It is a generally accepted principle that physical recreational activity improves one’s health. So “prescribing” recreational activity within your Park System is a low cost way to influence positive health outcomes while having fun at the same time. I think everyone would agree that if you took a nice brisk walk in one of our parks, you would come away feeling both physically and mentally refreshed. Walking is one of the simplest forms of activity, yet one of the most beneficial. It has been reported that walking can help decrease the risk of heart attacks, decrease the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes, while reducing stress and depression levels. It is widely agreed that our society has become less active. In fact, one study reports that in 1970, 66% of our children walked to school. Today, only 13% walk! We want to increase the awareness of the positive benefits of your Park System to our local community. The benefits are not only enjoying Mother Nature and all the programs that the “Great Outdoors” has to offer, but also by taking part in indoor programs that provide positive health outcomes that you cannot obtain by taking a pill and sitting on a couch. I know the pharmaceutical companies would probably disagree with this statement, but one could argue that your New Lenox Community Park System is Mother Nature’s way of “Free Medicine.” So take the first step. Sign up for a program, possibly with a friend or family member and make a recreational activity part of your everyday life cycle. Before you know it, you will be feeling better both inside and out. We’re listening... National Recreation & Parks Association (NPRA) is launching the “Americans' Engagement with Parks Survey”, a new annual research series that tracks the general public's interaction with and support for public parks. The survey results released each fall will provide park and recreation professionals, policymakers and other key stakeholders with insights on what Americans think about parks and how they use them. In the inaugural survey we found: Americans visit their local park and recreation facilities on average 29 times a year 90 percent of Americans agree that parks and recreation is an important local government service 75 percent support increased local government spending for parks and recreation 70 percent say they are more likely to vote for local politicians who make park and recreation a

funding priority 3 in 4 Americans agree that conservation, health and wellness, and social equity represent what they see as priorities for parks and recreation

ACES/SPENCER TRAILBLAZERS

ACES Powerplay! Beyond school program Grades K-6 (2016-2017 School Year) The ACES program is designed to provide a safe, structured before-and-after school program for children attending District #122 schools in grades Kindergarten through Sixth. The program is staffed with trained employees and maintains a 10:1 ratio. The program hours are 6:30am until school begins and after school until 6:30pm. We accommodate full-time, part-time and flexible schedules. Each participant is required to pay a registration fee of $30. Registration began on Mon., June 1, 2016. Online registration will be available AFTER your one-time $30 registration fee has been paid. WEEKLY PAYMENT IS DUE BY 8:00AM ON THURSDAY OF THE PREVIOUS WEEK or a $25 late fee per child will be charged. Payment can be made through the program, online, faxed to 815.485.3589 or dropped off at the drop box located outside of the NLCPD Administration Building, 701 W. Haven Avenue or outside Entry “C” at the Lions Community Center, 1 Manor Drive. We are now offering a new payment option for those individuals who are attending ACES, the Automatic Payment Plan. Please view the Commitment Form and the Financial Agreement Form on our website. Spencer Trailblazers Grade K (2016-2017 School Year) Spencer Trailblazers allows for an extended day for Spencer Trail AM and PM students. Teachers will reinforce the kindergarten curriculum. We strive to foster growth academically, socially and emotionally. Children will enjoy structured activities, games and outdoor play, as well as a variety of arts and crafts to counterbalance the day’s education activities. Children should bring their lunches and a drink with them each day. We do provide a morning and afternoon snack and drink each day. If your child needs care before or after kindergarten hours (before 8:20am and/or after 3:00pm), our Spencer ACES program is available. Space is limited in this program. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis and began on Mon., June 1. A registration fee of $30 will be required at this time to reserve your child’s spot. Parents must commit to a set schedule for the entire school year, but may choose 1-5 days. Registration must be turned in one week prior to your child’s start date.

Lincolnway Special Recreation Center This fully accessible facility features a gymnasium, stage, fitness area, learning kitchen, offices, classrooms and wheelchair softball field. The center is located just off Laraway Road, East of Schoolhouse Road in New Lenox. The facility also offers community rental opportunities for the gym and classrooms.

The New Lenox Community Park District welcomes participation in all programs by individuals with disabilities and special needs. The New Lenox Community Park District works cooperatively with LWSRA to facilitate successful participation for individuals who request an inclusion aide. If you are asking for special assistance for your child to participate in a park district program, please inform the park district staff at the time of registration. You will be directed to contact LWSRA and an evaluation process will then be implemented by LWSRA. Timely registration is important. Room Rentals Rentals are available to both New Lenox residents and nonresidents. Participants are able to bring their own food and beverages. However, alcohol is not permitted. • Room 1: Holds up to 125 people ($75/hour) • Room 2: Holds up to 50 people ($55/hour) • Rooms 1 & 2: Holds 180 people w/o dance floor ($100/hour) • Bi-Centennial Room: Holds up to 50 people ($55/hour) • All-Purpose Room: Holds up to 60 people ($75/hour) $100 security deposit is required to reserve your date. Banquet Rentals All banquets are planned through the Park District’s Banquet Coordinator, Meg Fiedler (mfiedler@newlenoxparks.org). You are welcome to bring your own catering. All beverages and alcohol must be provided by our own bar. In order to have the bar, the banquet will need to have a minimum of 50 guests. Rentals must be made 14 days in advance. A $250 security deposit is required to reserve your date. Full Payment and Layout is due 14 days prior to event. We offer six banquet packages for you to choose from. Additional Bartender is $50 per event.

Park Shelter Rentals Rentals for 2017 will begin on Tuesday, January 3.

Park shelter rental costs include use of electric and shelter rental. Please remember that these are public parks and open space will remain open to the public. In order to be approved to bring in an inflatable onto Park District property; you MUST supply a Certificate of Insurance (COI) by Operating Vendor with a $1,000,000.00 policy; naming the New Lenox Community Park District as additional insured with 701 W. Haven Ave., New Lenox, IL 60451 as the address and also include a copy of the vendor’s permit to conduct business. Once the COI and Business Permit is received, only then will the renter be allowed to have the inflatable on Park District property; this MUST be supplied prior to your event. These documents may be mailed to the Park District address above or faxed to 815.485.3589. • Park Rentals are available from Apr. 15-Oct. 31. • Hours of Operation: 9:00am-8:00pm A refundable Security Deposit of $100 is required for all Park Shelter Rentals at time of reservation. The theme for our next series of catalogs, Beyond the Swing Set, was created through the New Lenox Community Park District’s participation at the Illinois Association of Park District’s “Parks Day at the Capitol”. This event highlights the importance of parks and recreation in the health and happiness of everyone throughout the State of Illinois. The purpose of this sentiment is to show that all parks and recreation agencies provide many more services and create a much larger impact than most people realize. What is the S.T.O.P. PROGRAM? S.T.O.P. stands for Stop Trashing Our Parks and will be represented by our mascot, Bucky Beaver, who is dressed as a park ranger and holding a S.T.O.P. S.T.O.P. sign in one paw. Cash rewards will be paid for information leading to the apprehension of park vandals. Individuals providing information are not required to identify themselves. Hopefully, kids of all ages can relate to this “friendly mascot” and understand that he is trying to protect the parks.

Commemorative Tree and Bench Program Are you looking for a special way in which to honor a loved one or to commemorate a Special Event? The New Lenox Community Park District’s Commemorative Tree and Bench Program is dedicated to the planting of a tree or placement of a bench in honor of a loved one, organization, or to celebrate your special occasion. There is a variety of trees that can be purchased and planted. Please keep in mind that trees may be purchased at any time, but are only planted in the spring and fall and benches would be installed weather permitting. Please note that these trees and/or benches may be placed within a park site or at our Sanctuary Golf course, but restrictions do apply. What does Kiddie Kampus offer its participants?

Children learn many things before going to Kindergarten. The New Lenox Community Park District offers preschool classes designed to develop social, emotional and physical skills to ensure school readiness. A child’s separation from parents and involvement with a non-family member is one of many major steps towards his/her development. Kiddie Kampus provides a safe and supportive environment for your child’s first school experience while increasing his/her self-esteem and confidence through age appropriate instruction. Covered during the year are color, shape and number recognition, an introduction to number concepts and letter recognition. Your child’s quest for learning will be nurtured through creative play, building friendships, working individually and cooperating as part of a group. These activities promote patience, sharing and the awareness that there is a whole world of people surrounding and supporting them. Songs, stories, activities and games are used for reinforcement and fun. ACTV#

Due to priority registration of current 3 year-old Kiddie Kampus participants, there are limited spots available in the 4-year-old Kiddie Kampus program.

1. A copy of your child’s birth certificate MUST be provided at registration. A child must be four (three for the 3-year old program), on or before Sept. 1, 2017 and must be able to handle bathroom hygiene independently (potty-trained, no diapers). It is very helpful if the child is able to zip/button independently. 2. A $50 non-refundable registration fee, first month’s tuition, along with a T-shirt fee of $10 (if needed) will be collected beginning March 11 from 8:00am-11:00am while preregistering your child. The remainder of the fees are then divided into eight equal monthly payments. All payments are due on the 15th of the month, beginning September 15th. A late fee of $25 will be assessed to any account that is delinquent. 3. If you pay your full tuition payment at time of registration, the $50 non-refundable registration fee will be waived. 4. A voter’s card or tax bill is required at registration for verification of residency. Our Kiddie Kampus follows New Lenox School District 122’s calendar year for all full days off except for our Winter Break. Kiddie Kampus is still in session when there is a half-day for New Lenox School District 122.

Mom and Tot(s) Ages Birth-4 LCC (Room 1) Entry C You and your toddler(s) will spend a fun hour together playing under a parachute, crawling through obstacles, singing songs and working on art projects. Infants are also allowed in the class to watch the fun, so no need to find a babysitter. Price is for up to two children only. Third child, please add $8. Please dress in comfortable clothing and bring a pair of non-skid socks to wear during class.

Program Requirements • Children must be the correct age by 9/1/16, unless otherwise specified. In order to provide your child with the best possible recreational and/or learning experience, all of our programs are planned according to the ages listed in our brochure. • Although your child may turn the correct age during a second session of a program, our age requirement date coincides with the school district’s date to assist with the fundamental growth of the child in the age appropriate programs and therefore would not be eligible for registration. • Classes are for child attending only, except for classes with an adult. Parents should not remain in the classroom or gymnasium after dropping off their child. This is in the child’s best interest, as continual interruptions tend to affect participant’s attention span and inhibit the establishment of peer relationships. • All children must be potty-trained, unless they are attending a class where an adult stays with them or otherwise stated in the class description. Diapers are not permitted in independent classes unless stated in the class description. • Please do not bring food to any class, unless previously arranged. • For your children’s safety, all children enrolled in preschool-age programs must be picked up from the specific classroom or program site by their parents or designated guardian. Musikgarten Ages 6 months-3 years Instead of just another sing-a-long class, Musikgarten offers your child music education at an early age. Irish Dance Ages 3½-12

Dance is a powerful ally for developing many of the attributes of a growing child. Irish Dance helps children mature physically, emotionally, socially and cognitively. PARK POLICIES PROGRAM CATALOG DISTRIBUTION

NO REFUNDS ARE GIVEN: (1) once a program begins unless a replacement is found; (2) on material fees unless we cancel a program; (3) on bus trips; or (4) for Special Events or one-day programs. A full refund is issued if we cancel a program or trip.

Our seasonal catalogs are distributed inside the New Lenox Patriot Newspaper. This free newspaper for New Lenox residents only can be subscribed to by visiting 22ndcenturymedia.com/ req/np. For park district residents outside of New Lenox, the Park District relies on the postal service for distribution of our program catalogs. The Park District assumes no responsibility for delivery. • When a participant cancels out of a program, a full refund, LESS a $5 Service Charge (per program); will be granted. A $5 service charge will also be assessed on all program transfers. These requests will only be honored if the request is submitted THREE BUSINESS DAYS prior to the start of the program or activity. • All refunds less than $10 will be applied as a credit to the customer’s account. • A $30 NSF fee will be added for all returned checks. • Every effort will be made to process refunds within 30 days, but in some instances it may take longer.

CANCELLATION Staff reserves the right to consolidate, postpone, reschedule or cancel any program due to change in day, dates, times, instructor, or insufficient enrollment. If program enrollment does not meet the minimum number of registrants, it will be cancelled seven days prior to the start date. For cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e. inclement weather, facility emergencies or scheduling conflicts), which are announced by the Lincoln-Way District #210 or New Lenox School District #122 at facilities where Park District programs are scheduled, Park District programming will be cancelled as well. All attempts will be made to reschedule cancelled classes. However, the New Lenox Community Park District is sometimes unable to accommodate make-up classes and will not refund money in such instances.

FOR YOUR SAFETY A mandatory sign-in and sign-out procedure is required for all participants enrolled in any Park District program. Children must be accompanied by an adult when being escorted to and from class.

LIABILITY The New Lenox Community Park District is unable to assume responsibility for injuries, accidents or loss of personal property occurring during programs or activities, in parks or facilities. Such insurance would make programs and user fees prohibitive. It is recommended that participants make provisions to provide this coverage through their family insurance program.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM If you are (1) a New Lenox resident and (2) cannot participate for financial reasons, you may be eligible for financial aid.
