We hope everybody is taking advantage of all the summer programs your Park District has to offer. And now that the fall programs are here, everybody can just roll into more recreational activities, whether they are on a family level or an individual basis. Our Park District has received the “Target Family Fun” Reading Grant for $2,000; therefore we will be hosting two FREE family reading events to celebrate “Back to School Bash” and “Frozen Party”. THANK YOU TARGET! Some new programs coming up within the Recreation Department are dance programs, cheerleading programs, sewing classes, fitness programs and art classes. Your Recreation Department does an outstanding job of offering a large variety of programs to choose from at an affordable price. Don’t delay, sign up now! As far as your parks are concerned, hopefully by the time you receive this catalog, Walker Park (next to Liberty Jr. High School) will be open. This highly-anticipated park is scheduled to be open by August 1. This park features a splash pad for our younger kids, playground equipment, concession stand and an ADA accessible, 6-acre, fully-stocked fishing pond. This park was developed with a 50% matching grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Also, additional funds for the fishing pond at this park were made available through the National Recreation and Park Association and the Rather Be Fishing Foundation’s “Take Me Fishing Grant” which we have applied for and received for the last four years. Walker Park was built to serve the resident on the north side of town while Hibernia Park, which has similar features, can serve our residents on the south side. All in all, we at the Park District are doing our best with the limited amount of financial resources available. We will always do our best to offer top quality recreational programs to serve your needs. A Park District referendum question will appear on the November 4 General Election Ballot asking for your support to maintain our current tax rate. Inside the center of this catalog is a pull-out which will explain what Capital Improvements will be earmarked using your tax dollars. We do hope for your support and we welcome any comments or questions. Please feel free to contact our main office at 815.485.3584 for further details. Remember, Be Active and Stay Healthy! Sincerely, Brian Fischer Park Board President

This timeless musical experience celebrates one of the best all-around big bands and Sinatra’s birthday. “The Sentimental Gentleman of Swing,” Tommy Dorsey, was a master at creating warm, musical moods with countless hits like Night and Day; I’ll Never Smile Again, Marie, On the Sunny Side of the Street and Skylark. When Frank Sinatra joined the orchestra, his career blossomed and the band became more successful than ever. The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra still represents explosive and swinging Big Band entertainment at its very best under the direction of Terry Myers. The Kingston Trio will perform songs from its vast catalog such as Tom Dooley, Greenback Dollar, Where Have All the Flowers Gone, They Call the Wind Mariah and many more. ALL HANDS ON DECK! delivers great music and classic humor from those special days of road shows, war-bond drives and radio broadcasts? Thank you to our volunteers.

Park District staff would be happy to introduce this program to your schools and civic groups. Reminder to Pet Owners When visiting local parks with your pet, please remember that the Park District and Village ordinances require dogs to be leashed at all times. Owners are responsible for cleaning up any animal excrement from public property.

KIDDIE KAMPUS

What does Kiddie Kampus offer its participants? Children learn many things before going to kindergarten. The New Lenox Community Park District offers preschool classes designed to develop social, emotional and physical skills to ensure school readiness. A child’s separation from parents and involvement with a non-family member is one of many major steps towards his/her development. Kiddie Kampus provides a safe and supportive environment for your child’s first school experience while increasing his/ her self-esteem and confidence through age appropriate instruction. Covered during the year are color, shape and number recognition, an introduction to number concepts and letter recognition. Your child’s quest for learning will be nurtured through creative play, building friendships, working individually and cooperating as part of a group. These activities promote patience, sharing and the awareness that there is a whole world of people surrounding and supporting them. Songs, stories, activities and games are used for reinforcement and fun. What requirements are necessary for Kiddie Kampus registration?

24

1. A copy of your child’s birth certificate MUST be provided at registration. A child must be four (three for the 3-year old program), on or before Sept. 1, 2014 and must be able to handle bathroom hygiene independently (potty trained, no diapers). It is very helpful if the child is able to zip/button independently. 2. A $50 non-refundable registration fee, $10 T-shirt fee and the first month’s tuition will be required 3. A voter’s card or tax bill is required at registration for verification of residency. Our Kiddie Kampus follows New Lenox School District #122’s calendar year for all full days off except for our Winter break. Tuition payments are broken into nine equal payments, due a month in advance. A monthly bill will be placed on your account on the first of each month. You have a grace period until the 15th to make payment. All payments not made by the 15th will have a $25 late fee added to the account. ACTV#

Diapers are not permitted in independent classes unless stated in the class description. • Please do not bring food to any class, unless previously arranged. • For your children’s safety, all children enrolled in preschool-age programs must be picked up from the specific classroom or program site by their parents or designated guardian. Hello TO ALL OF OUR PARK DISTRICT RESIDENTS As your Park Board President, I want to ensure that all of our residents are well informed of the upcoming November Referendum. Following the March Primary, your Park District has taken strong steps to address specific projects that will be brought to fruition with a successful referendum. These projects were identified by your responses to our June 2014 Community Attitude and Interest Survey.

PARK DISTRICT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Ross Jansma

Vice President If we are given permission to “retain” our tax rate, NOT increase it, these funds will strictly go towards capital development, NOT wages or salaries, NOT pension costs, STRICTLY capital projects. The list contains park development, adding new amenities at current parks and athletic sites and land acquisition for future development. All of this can be done by maintaining the current tax rate. This referendum question/request is the financial foundation for the future of your Park District.

Garry Kraemer Treasurer

This referendum question affects everyone; athletic associations, clubs, the business community as well as our families that currently use our facilities. Everyone wants your Park District to add, update and maintain facilities, but we all must realize that this comes at a cost. A successful outcome for this referendum will give our residents what they continue to request – ongoing maintenance and development of Park District properties! On the following pages, we are excited to feature the actual projects that will be completed with a successful vote. We are here to answer any and all of your questions, so do not hesitate to call. I hope to see you at the voting polls on November 4, 2014. Thank you, Brian Fischer Park Board President

FYI...

The New Lenox C om Park District’s curr munity ent tax rate is one of th when compared to e lowest other park districts.

Kundalini Yoga

LCC (Room 2) Entry C Kundalini Yoga uses a series of movements and breath exercises that create mental and physical endurance that are designed to help relieve stress, depression symptoms, insomnia, increase mental clarity, as well as help with weight control while improving strength and flexibility. Kriyas (set of yogic postures) can be fast and repetitive or at other times relatively still. The accompanying breaths often mirror the movements of the body. Chanting is used to help center our minds and to assist with breath exercises. This class is great for people who like variety, need low impact exercises that still build strength and are looking to reduce stress. All levels of experience and flexibility are welcome! For your comfort, please come to class on an empty stomach (eat 2 hours before class) and wear loose fitting clothing. Please bring your own yoga mat, blanket and a water bottle to class.
