Rocking the

Dear Friends, Congratulations to women’s volleyball and women’s basketball on two exciting seasons! Volleyball captured the MAAC championship for a record ninth time and advanced back to the NCAA Tournament. Women’s basketball had one of the best turnaround seasons in Division I, winning 22 games and advancing to the finals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational. Other programs enjoyed successful seasons on the field as well. Women’s lacrosse doubled its win total and hosted its first MAAC Tournament game, softball won two MAAC Tournament games for the first time, men’s soccer posted double-digit wins and received top-25 votes for two consecutive weeks, women’s soccer advanced to the MAAC Tournament, and baseball competed in its third straight MAAC Championship Series and fourth in the last five years. It was another banner year in the classroom, capping off a decade over which your Saints combined to post an average Graduation Success Rate of 94.8%, among the highest percentages in the nation. A record number of student athletes were part of our 2014-15 4.0 Club, and the number involved in summer internships was also at an all-time high. All 18 teams had a spring semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher, 154 student athletes were named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, and the department’s cumulative grade point average is a stellar 3.16. I want to thank several of our “team” members who left Siena this past year. Men’s golf coach Tom Wronowski won two MAAC championships in his 20 years as head coach, men’s tennis coach Jim Serbalik saw his teams post a 3.0 GPA or better in 50 of his 52 semesters over his 26 years of service, and Andy Christodoulou helped rebuild our women’s tennis program during his five years leading the program. It seems everyone knew department secretary Sybille Cowan, who retired after 38 years. Sybille is known for her welcoming smile and kind words, and while she won’t be coming to the office every day, we look forward to seeing her at games and events. We enter the 2015-16 season with some exciting projects beginning to take form. Thanks to a $500,000 donation, the baseball field is seeing dramatic enhancements to include a new seating system with chairback seats, a net backstop, an elevated press box, and an outfield irrigation system. As part of the College’s continual capital restoration program, a new wood floor was installed in the Alumni Recreation Center along with new seating that includes chairbacks. Be sure to join us this season to watch our exciting volleyball, women’s basketball and baseball games in comfort.
