Duplex Laneway House

Research Cabin

This cabin, designed for a botanist doing research in Don Valley Brickworks Park in Toronto, is my first project designed according to a specific program. Each design choice had to be carfeully planned because the project specification severely `limited the square footage.

In this project I experimented with rendering in Photoshop and Enscape.

Picnic Pavilion

Located in a park that hosts a Farmer’s Market, this pavilion is meant to provide a comfortable space for people to relax and enjoy their food. A small farm is adjacent to the park, so my design is inspired by the farm and its materiality. Large sliding barn-like doors allow the space to feel different depending on their position.

Concrete Library

This public library is to be located in the heart of Toronto. To offer respite from busy streets, it has an elevated green space that allows for privacy, quiet, and views of the city. The outdoor area acts as an amphitheatre. Large concrete steps and concrete planters frame resting spaces,v which provide a view of the stage that can host shows, talks, camps and more. The study floor of the library cantilevers over the exterior space and provides shade for it. It is held up by custom-shaped reinforced-concrete columns.

Ground Floor Second Floor Third Floor Fourth Floor

Duplex Laneway House

Designed for a restricting four-metre wide site with a tree, I solved the challenge of including two units and a commercial space by creating a three-door façade. The basement and ground floor are taken by a nail salon and a unit occupied by the salon’s owners. The second unit is on the upper two floors. A courtyard with the tree can be entered at ground level, and the upper unit has terraces that overlook both the courtyard and the laneway.
