Sketches made with graphite pencils on gray tinted sheets and white dry pastel for hightlights.

Hand Studies

Hand studies done by observing life. I love drawing hands because next to the eyes, it’s the hands of an individual that speak on his/her behalf.

Animal Drawing

Animal drawings from observation. The tiger (watercolour) and the giraffe (red pencil) are done using references.

Landscape Drawing

Landscape Drawing done with blue and purple pens. I like sketching thumbnails of landscapes in pen. Pen gives a solid feel and cannot be erased or smudged.

Gesture Drawing

Gestures done in different mediums (pen, pencils, charcoal). All the sketches are 30 sec - 5 minutes.

Storyboard Animatics

Basic storyboard for my upcoming 2D film ‘Dive’. A film about fat friendly misfit man, trying to mix with a bunch of five-year-olds. It is a 35 second gag which is going to be done in 2D animation. This storyboard is done keeping in mind the essence of the story and an efficient way to communicate it. Storyboarding is one of my favourite subjects because it gives me a chance express my stories, and I can draw out the frames the way I imagine the shots in my film. Click HERE for the animatics. Backgrounds and Layouting

Original sketch of the pan

Thumbnail sketches experimenting with the story’s landscapes

Sketch with final treatment for film

As described in the ‘Character Design’ page, “The Missing Ball” is a story we were provided with for this course as well. So we had to design the landscape and a pan shot of the background. This was my learning process.

Backgrounds and Layouting

A temple pan made by Alok N.R and I, for our group project “Ud Jayega Hans Akela. This starts at 3 fields and zooms out to 15 fields, where the character travels over the river. The references for the pan were taken from Haridwar.

Backgrounds and Layouting

Above is the final pan, which moves from right to left along with the character’s movement, and tilts upwards to huge tree around which he climbs. The pan is 5 fields wide and 2 fields tall. Each field is of a 9 field dimension. It is done on photoshop using a Wacom Intuos4 tablet. The pan on the left was the original final pencil sketch before the changes were made in the character animation.

Background Pan for a scene in our group project/film ‘Ud Jayega Hans Akela’. I was incharge of the backgrounds and layouts. In this scene the character moves from the bottom right from a flowing river and moves left towards the big tree and climbs it. Click HERE to watch the linetest.

Character Design - Raghu

During this course we were provided a story called “The Missing Ball”. The story is about a boy and his dog looking for their football. 3 characters had to be designed. The boy, his dog, and a monster. This was the design I’d made for the boy - Raghu.

Character Design - Kalu

This was my design for the boy’s dog, Kalu. Kalu is quick, alert, adventurous and smart. I tried to learn character design through different processes like strong-silhoutte, shapes and forms, and form follows function.

Illustrations

Illustrations speak out stories, and that’s why they’re so special. These are some of my illustrations. I love to explore the different mediums in which stories can be told. What I like best about illustrations is that there is no right or wrong way to make them. What works is great.

Caricatures

Rohan saraf

(a friend who loves coffee)

Brad Pitt

Quentin Tarantino

Caricatures of people I know and like! Making caricatures of people helps me understand and observe certain features on a face. What takes more, is learning how much to exaggerate and which features to exaggerate.

Short Films A Pig Story A story about a pig, who helps a girl meet her aspirations. This project was made by Me, Alok N.R and Vicky Punjabi during Vaibhav Kumaresh’s Claymation course, where we learnt to handle a medium other than 2d.
