Christi Posey enters her sixth season at the helm of the UMKC volleyball program after being named the new head coach of the Kangaroos on Feb. 14, 2011. With the team’s success, Posey has moved into second place on the UMKC all-time wins list and is the only one on the list who holds a winning record. In her five seasons, she has amassed a winning record in four consecutive years after the program accumulated just one winning season in the 24 years prior to her arrival. The ’Roos finished with a 15-13 record in 2015, including a 7-7 conference record to place fifth in the WAC. The ’Roos opened the season with a huge 3-2 win over Saint Louis, the first victory over the Billikens in the history of the UMKC volleyball program. The ’Roos won their second-ever conference tournament match, and the first in the Christi Posey era, topping Seattle U 3-2. Madison Mosier was named first-team All-WAC, while Taryn Miller and Sydney Crimmins earned second-team All-WAC nods. In 2014 Posey guided the ‘Roos to the greatest season in the history of the program as UMKC claimed their first ever conference championship, winning the WAC regular season title. During the season, the ‘Roos won a pair of preseason tournament titles for the first time in school history with crowns at the CEFCU Classic and FGCU Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites Classic,

knocked off Missouri for the third time in school history and the first time since 1994 and set school records for overall wins (24), conference wins (12) and consecutive wins (17) leading to Posey being named as the WAC Coach of the Year. Under her direction, Emma Hagedorn was named the WAC Player of the Year and was joined on the First Team All-WAC by Sydney Crimmins and Taryn Miller, while Melissa Hartsel was placed on the Second Team All-WAC. Miller, meanwhile, garnered AVCA Division I All-Midwest Region Honorable Mention honors and was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District 6 First Team. In 2013, the ‘Roos finished with just their third winning record in school history and the first time ever finishing with a winning record in back-to-back seasons after the squad finished 15-14 overall. On the year, Crimmins and Miller each garnered Second Team All-WAC recognition and Kaylyn Brandt was named to the All-Freshman team, while Emma Hagedorn set the school record for blocks in a season and a game. Off the court, Crimmins was selected as the WAC’s representative to the NCAA’s SAAC, while Crimmins, Miller, Brandt, Skyler Muff, Morgan Voorhes and Nicole Wemhoff all garnered Academic All-WAC honors. In 2013, Posey guided the ‘Roos to a 17-13 record overall, the second most wins in school history,

Muff, meanwhile, was named to a pair of preseason alltournament teams, while Lucas and Miller were each named to one. Academically, three Kangaroos were named to the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence, while seven were named to The Summit League Fall Academic Honor Roll, including four as Distinguished Scholars. In her first season as the ‘Roos head coach, Posey guided the squad to a 12-17 record overall and a 6-12 mark in Summit League play, including five wins in their final seven matches. During the year, the first year coach saw five separate players named to all-tournament teams, while leading UMKC to a 3-0 record in the Radford Tournament, its first preseason title since 2002. Under her watch, meanwhile, seniors Christiana McQuin (blocks and block assists) and Nicole Kerkman (digs) each set new school records. Academically, eight ‘Roos were named to The Summit League Fall Academic All-League Team, including three as Distinguished Scholars, while the team claimed its third NCAA Public Recognition Award from the NCAA in the last four years after finishing in the top-10 percent in APR of all NCAA Division I volleyball teams for the 2010-11 season. Prior to joining the UMKC program, Posey has spent eleven seasons as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Kansas, where

she landed the No. 26 ranked class in the nation according to PrepVolleyball.com in 2010. While at Kansas, Posey worked with the team’s setters and defensive specialist, while also serving as the team’s recruiting coordinator, overseeing the team’s managers, team room and camp administration, and acting as a liaison between the team and its sports psychologist, promotions department and the weight room During her time on the sidelines, Posey oversaw the development of many impressive Jayhawks, including 2010 team members Melissa Manda and Nicole Tate. Under Posey’s guidance, Manda became the all-time digs leader at KU with 1,457 digs in her career, while Tate served as the team’s primary setter the past three season and was named to the 2008 all-Big 12 Freshman squad. From 2002-05, Posey worked with Andi Rozum who became Kansas’ all-time leader in assists, as well as Jennifer Kraft, who was named 2002 Big 12 Defensive Specialist of the Year. Prior to heading to Lawrence, Posey served as the head volleyball coach at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kan., from 1993 to 2000. During that time, Posey led the Huskies to KSHSAA state tournaments in each of her eight season, winning the state championships in 1996 and 1997, while finishing third three times. At Blue Valley Northwest, Posey also served as head girls’ basketball and assistant softball coach for the Huskies and was named a member of its inaugural Husky Hall of Fame class.

While coaching the Huskies, she was named the 1999 Johnson County Volleyball Coach of the Year by the Kansas City Star, the 1997 Coach of the Year by the Kansas Volleyball Association and Kansas Sport Magazine after leading her team to a perfect 44-0 record, including a second-straight KSHSAA state championship and the 1996 Coach of the Year by Kansas Sport Magazine and Sports Connection after guiding her team to a 41-3 record and the state championship. Before taking over the coaching duties at Blue Valley Northwest, Posey served in the same position at Halstead (Kan.) High School from 198390 where she was selected to serve as head coach at the 1990 Kansas Volleyball Association’s annual All-Star Game after being named co-Coach of the Year by the KVA. Four times her squad’s qualified for the state tournament, including a third place finish in 1990. In her 18 years as a high school coach, Posey compiled an overall record of 392-171. During her college career, Posey lettered in volleyball and softball at Wichita State as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to Kansas for her final two years of eligibility, where she was a standout first baseman and outfielder for the KU softball team. TRENT JONES ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH SIXTH SEASON GRACELAND, 2002 Trent Jones enters his fourth seasons as Associate Head Coach after serving two years as the assistant coach.

In his Five years on the staff, Jones has helped the ‘Roos to a 83-63 overall mark and four-straight winning seasons for the first time in school history, while 10 players have been named to all-conference teams and two more to all-freshman teams.

“Trent has been instrumental in the success we’ve experienced thus far and there is no question to the positive impact he will have in the future in our program.” Head Coach Christi Posey said, “His loyalty, his work ethic, and his commitment to player improvement make him an outstanding asset to Kansas City Volleyball.”

Jones helped the ’Roos to a 15-13 record in 2015, including a 7-7 conference record to place fifth in the WAC. The ’Roos opened the season with a huge 3-2 win over Saint Louis, the first victory over the Billikens in the history of the UMKC volleyball program. The ’Roos won their second-ever conference tournament match, topping Seattle U 3-2. Madison Mosier was named first-team All-WAC, while Taryn Miller and Sydney Crimmins earned second-team All-WAC nods.

Jones came to UMKC from UMSL, where he led the Tritons to a 64-28 record in his three seasons and the squad’s first trip to the NCAA Division II tournament since 1995 in 2010. In that season, he directed the squad to its first appearance in the AVCA top-25 since 1993, while being named the Great Lakes Valley Coach of the Year in 2008. In his three seasons, Jones produced 12 All-GLVC selections, four All-Region selections and an AllRegion Freshman of the Year honoree.

In 2014 Jones helped guide the ‘Roos to the greatest season in the history of the program as UMKC claimed their first ever conference championship, winning the WAC regular season title. During the season, the ‘Roos won a pair of preseason tournament titles for the first time in school history with crowns at the CEFCU Classic and FGCU Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites Classic, knocked off Missouri for the third time in school history and the first time since 1994 and set school records for overall wins (24), conference

Although Jones oversees many aspects of the program, his work with the middle attackers produced an All-League performance from freshman, Emma Hagedorn. Jones also coordinates blocking schemes and team defense. “We are thrilled to be able to promote Trent to Associate Head Coach; it gives us the chance to demonstrate our appreciation for his expertise and dedication.” Posey said.

Prior to heading the UMSL program, Jones served as First Assistant at Washburn University from 20042008, helping the Lady Blues to a 129-23 record during his time on the bench. In 2007, Washburn made its first ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Final Four after achieving a school-record 35-3 record in 2005. Under his guidance, the Lady Blues placed seven players on the all-American team. From 2002-04, Jones served as a volunteer assistant at the University of Kansas where he helped guide the squad to its best season in school history and first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2003. As a collegiate student-athlete, Jones was a member of the Columbia College men’s team, where he led the Cougars to the 2000 NAIA Men’s Volleyball National Championship. The new UMKC Assistant Coach also spent 1998-1999 and 200002 as a member of Graceland University volleyball team where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in History with an emphasis on Civil Rights in 2002.


COACHES/STAFF 23 Kalani Rose joined the Kansas City coaching staff in July of 2013 as a graduate assistant coach after spending four years as a member of the Park University men’s volleyball team where he graduated in 2013. At Park, Rose was a four-year starter at libero, helping the Pirates to an 85-29 record and to the 2012 National Championship, a Runner-Up finish in 2013 and three Final Four appearances. In 2013, Rose was named NAIA Tournament Defensive MVP, the American Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year and to the Second Team All-AMC, while garnering multiple Libero of the Week honors.

KALANI ROSE

As a prep at Hilltop HS in California, Rose led the state in digs, while pacing his team in kills en route to an all-conference selection.

On the sidelines, Rose spent two years as a student assistant to the girls’ varsity squad at Hilltop, while serving as the head coach of the club team Seaside.
