Colours of Ibiza “I biza has celebrations tumbling one on top of the other right now. From the Rainbow flag of Gay Pride, to the national flags of the World Cup, and the local Ibizan flag of Sant Joan de Labritja— appropriately diverse for our Mediterranean melting pot of world cultures, lifestyles and beliefs-but all are flown with equal pride, passion, and the expectation of a party.

 Gay Pride Over the last few days and continuing until Saturday night,

Gay Pride has continued its tradition of celebrating tolerance and freedom of choice, combining fiesta with agenda and an amazing display of talent across the arts.

 Sant Joan Fiestas

More details of both Gay Pride and the San Joan fiestas in agenda.

 World Cup

Ibiza’s cultural calendar continues with San Juan now the fiesta focus for a fortnight of events starting Saturday 16th June and leading up to the flaming climax on Sunday 24th June.

If you can’t be at the finals, the next best place to watch the festival of football has to be under the Mediterranean sun. Whether supporting Spain, England, or whichever team is playing against England, Ibiza is the perfect backdrop against which to have your dreams and hopes cruelly shattered- again. 600,000 Bees Arrive To Repopulate Ibiza  Pitiusan beekeepers are looking to recover the native

bee that was decimated 30 years ago by Varroa Destructor mite.

Enclosed in 30 cases and imported from Mallorca, the bee’s immaculate genetics coincide with that of our islands. The 600,000 purebred bees travelled by boat and were released on a hill of Can Planes which will act as an apiculture farm. The president of the Pitiusan beekeepers has drawn up a plan which should see the ‘original lineage’ of the native bee return in five years. The project was due to take place last year, but the extreme drought would have endangered the project.

Balearics Charge Highest Tourist Tax in Europe  The European holiday destinations with the highest rates of tourist tax have been revealed in a new survey.  Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, Formentera, Barcelona, Rome and Berlin charge the highest. Holidaymakers staying for a week in a five-star hotel on the Balearic Islands have to pay an additional 28€ for the socalled 'eco-tax'. In a three-star establishment, it is 14€. Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Menorca have rates ranging from 4€ pp per night in five-star hotels, 3€ for four, 2€ for two and three stars and 1€ for hostels, pensions, inns or other facilities such as campsites or shelters. As for rental apartments, the fee is 4€ for houses of four keys superior, 3€ for those of three keys superior and 2€ for those of two and three keys. This fee has a 50% reduction in low season. Catalonia Catalonia has a different rate from Barcelona and for the rest of the autonomous community. The study, by Liligo, says Barcelona charges 2.25€ for five-star hotels, 1.10€ for four-star hotels and 2€ for three-star hotels or less. Tourist apartments will pay a single fee of 2.25€ pp per night. The rest of Catalonia does have similar rates - 2.25€ for five-star establishments, 0.90€ for four stars and 0.45 for other tourist facilities. Outside of Barcelona, the tourist apartments have a rate of just 0.90€ pp per night.

Hamburg has different rates ranging from 0.50€ - 4€ according to the type of accommodation. Travel search engine liligo.com says many tourists are still taken by surprise when they arrive at hotels and have to pay the extra fee, usually upfront or sometimes at checkout time. The travel portal says the tourist tax must be paid in person at the accommodation and in cash. In almost all countries it is virtually impossible to pay online with the reservation. Guillaume Rostrand, chief marketing officer of liligo.com, said: 'The creation of tourist rates is a growing trend that seeks to raise funds to alleviate the negative effects that tourism could have on cities. 'We no longer only see them in Europe but also in the United States, Latin America or Asia.'

Other Countries

Ibiza is 3rd Cheapest in Holiday Spending Survey

In Rome, tourists can pay up to 7€ per night in five-star hotels or 3-5€ in Naples, Venice or Florence. The exception is Milan, which has a rate that fluctuates between 2-5€ but with a 50% reduction in the amount during the summer. In Germany each state has its own tourist tax, according to Liligo. For example, in Berlin and Cologne tax is charged according to a percentage (5%) of the total hotel bill.

It isn’t really. Of course it isn’t. We are most expensive as always. Holiday portal Spain-Holiday.com have been busy gathering summer holiday spending comparison information around Spain’s most popular resorts. Ibiza comes out most expensive in many of their results—and way in in front on all those to do with eating drinking and shopping. There are some positive results however. We were not the most expensive Taxi, they said something or other about being unable to confirm whether or not Ibiza actually had any taxis, and joy of all joys, we have the cheapest water park in Spain. Take that Mallorca!

British Consul to Hold Brexit Advice Session in Ibiza  British Consul Lloyd Milen visits Ibiza to discuss Brexit and how it affects UK citizens in Spain  Monday 25 June at 18.00 at Morna International College, Carretera Sta. Gertrudis, KM 3.5, Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera, 07814, Islas Baleares. Ibiza will be hosting an event with the British Consul General Lloyd Milen and the British Vice Consul Lucy Gorman, to talk about Brexit and how it affects British citizens living in Spain. They will be talking to residents at the event about any concerns they have around Brexit and to provide an update on the progress of Brexit negotiations and respond to any questions and concerns they may have. Ahead of the events, Consul General Lloyd Milen said, “Citizens have always been a priority for the British Government in the negotiations on our departure from the EU, as they have been for Spain, and since the outcome of the referendum we have met groups and individual British citizens from across Spain to listen to their concerns. “The aim is to give British citizens the opportunity to ask questions and raise any concerns they may have regarding the progress on the negotiations, and Spanish residency questions they may have for Extranjería. “In Ibiza, we will want to talk about how Brits living in Spain can be best prepared for our departure from the EU. These outreach events allow us to understand the concerns of British citizens better, and to ensure that those concerns are understood in both London and Brussels.” The event will be held at Morna College on Monday the 25th of June. No registration is needed, just turn up at the day and time for the event. ett-Fairchild and Olusola Odejayi, have been ordered to surrender their passports and are not permitted to leave Ibiza pending trial.  Fellow Charlton player Karlan Ahearne-Grant is allowed to return to the UK, but with twice weekly reporting to the Spanish Embassy. Following private sessions in which testimony was presented before the court, Judge Carmen Robles ordered that the three men accused in the case of a serious sexual assault against a 19 year old tourist should be set free—without financial bail, but with strict restrictions. Two of those charged had their passports taken from them and are under instruction not to leave the island pending trial. The third man is allowed to return to the UK, but must report to the Spanish Embassy in London twice a week. Our full reports of the case, which has attracted much international attention, are given below.

sance, the agents arrested the third suspect, whom the complainant accuses of being the alleged perpetrator of the sexual assault. This man admitted to the investigators that he had sex with the complainant but claims it to have been consensual. As explained by the National Police, on Monday the complainant and her friend met a group of footballers in a San Antonio bar, and both accompanied them to the players’ hotel in Cala de Bou. “Once in the rooms, one of the girls was sexually assaulted by one of the players, while a second grabbed her and a third recorded her with her mobile phone,” the Ibiza Police explained yesterday via a written statement. The report continues to state that after the events the victim was “visibly affected”, and that her parents with whom she is on holiday immediately suspected something was wrong. Once their daughter told them what happened, they went to file a complaint at the National Police station.

Court Appearance Apparently, the agents are also investigating an alleged assault between two of the players in the hotel in Cala de Bou. The UFAM investigators took statements from the three suspects yesterday afternoon and they are scheduled to be taken before Judge Carmen Robles in Ibiza Court of Instruction 4 this week.

3rd Man Says He Intervened to Stop Rape of Tourist  Report 14th June

 2 more players arrested, 1 for restraining the victim,  The 3 Charlton players arrested in the case of a sexual another for filming the assault on his phone.

 The National Police confirm medical reports indicate

assault, and state the woman’s complaint as “coherent and credible”. More detail has emerged regarding the widely reported arrest of Professional footballers in an allegation of sexual assault in Cala de Bou. The preliminary report prepared by the Ibiza Court Institute of Legal Medicine indicates that the signs found on the body of the woman complainant are compatible with those of a sexual assault, as confirmed by sources familiar with the case in the Diario de Ibiza. In addition, the investigators of the Family and Women Unit of the National Police (UFAM) have stated that they consider the account of the 19 year old woman “coherent and credible”.

Hotel Arrests Following the complaint filed by the young woman and the results of the medical tests, UFAM agents went to the Cala de Bou hotel where the players were staying, and arrested two of the presumed involved, both professional players of Charlton Football Club. One of the initial two detainees is accused of holding the girl during the assault, and the other of recording the scene with a mobile device. Yesterday afternoon, following a photographic reconnais-

assault of a 19 year old tourist have appeared in the Ibiza Court. One player was arrested on the charge of rape, one for filming the assault on his mobile phone, and another for restraining the complainant during the attach. However in a statement by police today the 14th of June, they have said that the third man has claimed to have intervened to prevent the assault. His version of events is that he was in an adjacent room with the friend of the complainant, and when he heard loud noises in the room occupied by the complainant and the two other men, he went into the room and told them to stop, in fact his actions leading to a fight between him and one of the other accused.

Full of gratitude from the huge reception and success of smash record ‘Shape The Future’, Nightmares on Wax returns to Ibiza to host the ninth edition of Wax da Jam, an Ibiza staple that celebrates the island’s original essence of hedonism and community spirit. Off the back of a still ongoing global tour of his 2018 album release, N.O.W will bring the live show to Ibiza for the first time. The island is his home, it’s where he finds inspiration, so to catch him performing with a full live band under the sun, moon and stars at Ibiza’s oldest nightclub, is a rare, not to be missed opportunity. Las Dalias will be the only place to see Nightmares on Wax Live in Ibiza this year, as well as extended sets from DJ E.A.S.E, keeping it completely exclusive to Wax Da Jam.

Flying The Conscious Flag

“Wax Da Jam 2018 will still continue to fly the conscious flag, and this year’s theme is Shape The Future, the title of my eighth album which will be performed live in the intimate and unique setting of Las Dalias. The Shape The Future message is about expressing the changes we can make through the power of music and dance. For the events we will once again be working alongside the LNADJ foundation, and adopting the Oceanic standard of going strawless at all our events. The ethos of Wax Da Jam is crowd participation – the people make the party – so where better to spread positive messages of change than here.” – George Evelyn (a.k.a Nightmares On Wax).

Food & Drink passengers. It did need a bit of seasoning to bring out the flavour, and in salt-happy Spain it is a welcome change to be left with the choice. Really delicious, and absolutely perfect for a hot summer’s day when anything heavier would have you in a hammock for hours of recovery time. That salad truly rocks. Love it.

Carta De Gin I mentioned the Tulp sunset as an obvious reason for a visit at the beginning, didn’t I? Well that just got better too. Tulp have an extensive Gin menu and though typically a simple Larios and Schweppes man, they won be over with a Hendrick’s on cucumber with an elderflower tonic. So refreshing, I mean cucumber in drinks, where have you been all my life? Thing is, they are so perfect for the scorching heat that you could easily get through a few. They do go down what you could call the Tulp way …. effortlessly.

Review ~ Tulp Beach Café  S’Arenal Promenade, San Antonio/Bay

Tulp has a very special kind of cool that many aspire to but few achieve. It is an effortless kind of laid back beachcomber chic with a touch of freak.” We all tend to have particular establishments we frequent for particular needs. A favourite bar to watch football, a Spanish local for café and tostada, perhaps a place that is really good for keeping your kids happy or a good setting for meeting clients. Tulp Beach Café has been on my certain-situations tick list for a long time, and it fulfils quite a few of them. Obviously a great choice for sunsets and our default with visiting family and friends. Also a good choice for an hour getting to grips with ‘the morning after’, Something fresh, long and healthy and a quiet corner with the added sea breeze does wonders. I have developed a taste for their Dutch menu treats and though I am not yet swallowing whole herrings as is the Dutch way, a fancying for a Frikandel or one of the best Nasi Goreng I’ve tasted will have me walking through their doors. Then there is what I can describe no better than ‘the general atmos’. Tulp has a very special kind of cool that many aspire to but few achieve. It is an effortless kind of laid back beachcomber chic with a touch of freak. A respite seeking sunbather can snooze in a shady hammock alongside movers and shakers from club-world doing and dealing one cortado at a time. A pristine Patsy Stone will be air kissing darlings when at the same time a dad runs by chasing his errant 2-year-old who is making a break for it through the tangled jungle of chairs and trees, plus the odd elephant or two to make it all the more exciting.

Not many places I know would suit or welcome such a wide variety of people, but Tulp does so—and here’s that word again—effortlessly. But of course it isn’t effortless. Owners Paul and Diana have spent years refining the art of hospitality to achieve what we see as effortless cool. Creating a venue that attracts the right sort and dissuades the wrong ‘uns is no mean feat. And that brings me to the last on my list of ticks as to when Tulp becomes my preferred choice. That being when I fancy an hour’s R&R without nutters. Tulp doesn’t have nutters and I love them for it. Actually, that isn’t the complete list is it. There are the St Barts fireworks, and of course it is a ‘fair’ meeting point half way between bay and town. I’m sure I’ll think of more. So, my list of reasons to go Dutch is already quite long, but after my visit last week to try some of their new season menu, I now have even more.

Carpaccio Of Rose Veal & Dressed Salad Is everybody familiar with Rose Veal yet? I’m not sure how commonplace it is here. If you don’t know, give it a google. The flavour of the veal is very subtle, delicate even, and it seems to develop—it was half way through the plate I realised just how much I was enjoying it. Perhaps that was in part due to how much I was enjoying the salad, I had no doubts on that from the first forkful. The combination of capers, pine nuts, shaved parmesan and a pesto-mayo dressing sounds like something the MasterChef judges would ridicule as flavour insanity. However, if Tulp’s plate were served to them you would have the rare pleasure of an episode in which they had to admit they had got it wrong. Somehow the smooth delicate beef seemed to provide the ride for the popping taste sensations provided by the plate’s rowdy

Ibiza to Mykonos Direct Flights  SummerJet: the ‘first ever’ private jet shuttle flights between Ibiza and Mykonos

 Editor: Are we missing something here? We find this story

baffling. Who are we to question the commercial decision to open up a direct Ibiza to Mykonos flight, but it is the language it is presented in, as if the world has been waiting for this gap in world transit to be filled. We’ll leave it to them to explain... “Encore Jets, a leading full-service private aviation company, announced it is launching SummerJet, a trans-Mediterranean private jet shuttle this summer, offering single-seat private travel between Ibiza and Mykonos from Thursday, July 12th. For the first time in aviation history, travellers seeking a seamless, luxury, non-stop flight across the Mediterranean between these two summer hotspots now can reserve seats on scheduled flights. “The news is sure to boost local tourism, as commercial airlines have never offered nonstop flights between Mykonos and Ibiza. The shortest route is currently two legs and just under six hours, with many having to endure ten hours of travel time or more. SummerJet is timed at just under three hours each way, and tickets are priced at €2,150 one-way. Helicopter transfers to Athens and Santorini from Mykonos will also be available for an additional charge. “All flights will be on a Mid-Size Citation XLS or a Large Cabin Challenger 604, depending on the calendar date.“

Ca Na Negreta Works Start January The works on the highway will begin in January and the construction company does not expect road closures, but traffic will be reduced to one lane each way. It is part of the 14.5million euro project to extend the section of the Santa Eulalia road. The project will be carried out in phases, in the first, the outer platform will be built (the two lanes to be added on the right-hand side of current road in the direction of Santa Eulalia, and the service roads) and in the second phase, a ‘provisional highway’ will be built to connect the two platforms.

Jesus The Jesus road will have two lanes and two roundabouts, one at the junction of ses Escoles and another at the height of the streets of Tucà and Faisà that will connect with the centre of Jesus. The road will have a 475-metre bike path and pavements in both directions. The speed limit will be 60km, plants and an acoustic screen will also be installed.

Investigation Into Baleària Ferry Crash  Sea captain of Ibiza points to a possible "human failure" as

a reason for the accident The Baleària catamaran ‘Pinar del Río’ was finally removed from the rocks on Saturday 9th almost 24 hours after it became lodged on the sea wall. A dozen divers from the Servi Sub Ibiza and Eivisub went down at dawn on the Saturday morning to repair the small crack in the hull, they also installed two large balloons to increase the ferries buoyancy and the tugboat ‘Claudia’ managed to extract it without any problem. The catamaran made it’s way into the port and the 64 vehicles on board could be removed. The shipping company has announced that it will open "an internal investigation to determine the causes of the incident, in order to obtain conclusions that allow it to follow the path of continuous improvement of its services." On the same day and once the ship had been reviewed, it went on its way to some shipyards in Algeciras "where the material damage that has affected the hull of the ship's port side will be repaired."

Ryanair Denounced The European Parliament has admitted processing the complaint filed by Consumers and Users of the Balearic Islands (Consubal) against Ryanair for assigning separate seats to some families. Consubal reported the airline last March for “alleged practices contrary to the rights of consumers” after receiving “many” complaints from passengers for assigning separate seats to minors “with the excuse” that they did so randomly.

 This summer, Baleària reinforces its services between Va-

lencia and Ibiza with four daily services The Baleària shipping company has scheduled four daily connections between the Valencian Community and Ibiza this summer, two of which will be high speed. From the port of Dénia, Baleària offers today two high-speed daily services, linking the peninsula with the greater Pitiusa in just two hours. The fast ferry ‘Cecilia Payne’ operates into the port of Ibiza and, the ‘Pinar del Río’ vessel joins the Dianense capital with Sant Antoni. These routes are added services in the daily ferries from both Dénia and Valencia.

Dénia - Sant Antoni

The fast ferry Pinar del Río has scheduled daily departures from Dénia to Sant Antoni, doubling the services on weekends. In addition, the months of July and August it will make Not The First Collision This is not the first time the ferry has been in a collision, in two daily connections, except on Wednesdays. Four underground passages will be opened for pedestrians and all bus stops will have underpasses. This section will also have a separate bike path as well as a lower pass for cyclists in Can Clavos, which will connect with the Sant Miquel route. The project is expected to take 18 months.

Baleària ‘Reinforces’ Its Valencia to Ibiza Service

In addition, Consubal has criticised that Ryanair gave the option to assign seats together after payment of an unspecified amount. The matter will be investigated and the company will be sanctioned if necessary.

Ryanair Bans Alcohol On Flights To Ibiza Passengers travelling to Ibiza are again receiving an email this year warning them that any alcohol purchased in duty free will be labelled and put in the hold of the plane. No passenger will be allowed to carry it in the cabin. The airline has warned passengers that "boarding gates will be closely monitored and customers who show any signs of antisocial behaviour or intend to hide alcohol to get on the plane will be denied travel and will not receive a refund or compensation." What the company does not mention in their email, is if customers can buy all the alcohol they want on the plane.

Sant Joan Demands Post Offices Stay Open  The City Council considers that the closure of the two

premises is the "de-structuring" of a basic service The City Council of Sant Joan has agreed to demand that the post offices of sa Cala and Sant Llorenç remain open despite their planned closures. As reported by the Consistory, the decision has been adopted at the local government meeting after the board considers that the closures “will undoubtedly harm the affected users”. Also, from the Consistory, the closure of these offices will mean a "de-structuring" from the municipal point of view of a "basic" communications service, contrary to what is provided in articles of Law 43/2010, of December 30, of the Rights of Users of the Universal Postal Service and the Postal Market. With this requirement, they have explained, it is requested that the service be maintained within the municipality for all the neighbours as it has been up to now.

 Johnny’s Pub, Established 1993 Johnny’s is a Bay institution. Popular with locals and tourists alike, they are open for food to eat in and takeaway from morning through to late—usually very late, and at some point on your holiday, you’ll be glad of that. We locals can’t have their exceptional English breakfast (above) as often as we’d like, but you’re on holiday, so indulge yourself. Just 4,75€ gets you double British sausage and bacon, double egg, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, fried slice, toast and tea or coffee—plus a portion of jam for reasons we’ve never fully understood.

 Relish Restaurant & Lounge Bar Just footsteps from the beach of Cala De Bou, the restaurant and bar extends into a large covered terrace, gardens and a private pool for the exclusive use of relish patrons. Plus on Sundays Relish offers a traditional Sunday Roast. Relish pride themselves on a simple philosophy - good food, cooked well, fairly priced.

Booking with immediate confirmation is available on the website.

 More Great Food You’ll also find great food in Donnegans Irish Pub, Playa Bella and Kumharas—all of whom are listed in the entertainment section. Also we have to recommend going local during your stay. Nothing beats a long lazy lunch of fresh cooked paella on the beach with a jug or three of sangria to wash it down.

Entertainment  The Watersports Shop A most welcome addition to the lower bay road (carrer des calo) in 2017, the watersports shop have a huge range of bookable activities on and under the water, for individuals and groups. Browse their range of jetskis, stand up paddle, seadoos, speedboat trips, and the awesome hoverboard and flyboard sessions, from the comfort of their shop, and then take the activity from any of their four beach concessions—which makes them one of the biggest watersports operators in Ibiza. If not near the shop you can also book online via their website. See ad right for details and location.

Peppers2 Party Bar Dance till dawn? You betcha, and we don’t want any of that ‘I’m too old for all that now’ nonsense either. In Ibiza there is no such thing as too old, and Peppers2 is a fine example of an all night party bar that will see everybody from barely legal to rather regal bopping the night away. See the agenda for special events, but every night you are guaranteed a warm welcome from Chaz and the team. Take a cocktail or two on the terrace, then head inside to show us your moves.

 Donnegans Irish Pub It is hard to know what category to list Donnegans, as they do (Continued on page 10)

metres. Cast all thoughts of a British barbeque aside– Ibiza’s best grill restaurants, of which Sa Brasa is undoubtedly one, take the concept of charcoal grilling to another level. The emphasis is all about providing the very best quality cuts of meat, and fresh fish that may well have been swimming within sight of the restaurant earlier the same day. You need to have a grill meal at least once while you are here, but if you do it early in your holiday our bet is you’ll be back for more.

Fancy some good old family cabaret? The Playa Bella apartments kick off with nightly cash Bingo hosted by our own mister thriller from Aston Villa, Chip, and once your eyes are restored to their regular horizontal position, the night continues with a roster of live cabaret featuring everything from tribute acts to comedy to drag and some very talented musical acts.  Mariposa Pool Bar & Restaurant, Cala Llonga

 Ibosim Brewhouse

Entertainment

Tough to know whether to list Ibosim brewhouse in ‘food & drink’ or ‘things to do’. As bars are hardly in short supply in Ibiza, and Ibosim offers so much more, we decided on the latter. Ibosim is the first and only beer produced in Ibiza. Visit the brewery and enjoy a worthy range of craft beers on the taproom terrace, or take it a step further and ask about their brewery tours. Ibosim are 50m from Port des Torrent beach.

Only In Ibiza  Grow Submarine, Head Shop

The idea of ‘living the dream’ under the Mediterranean sun becomes reality at the Mariposa. Nestled in the hills behind the Cala Llonga village, and with spectacular views out over the bay, the Mariposa team and regulars will give you the warmest of welcomes. Start your day with a bacon and brie toasted sandwich and café con leche, followed by a dip in the pool, and sip on some cocktails from your poolside lounger. Heaven.

Santa Eulalia

San Antonio

There can be little doubting the vegan credentials of Los Otros, as not only do they offer a fine range of Italian food, the owner is an authoritative author of vegan cookbooks too. The setting is magical. Just meters from the water on the marina front of Santa Eulalia, your visit will have the reassuringly relaxing soundtrack of the clinking masts of moored yachts.

 Sa Brasa, Grill Restaurant, Santa Eulalia Though you can see Sa Brasa’s exact location on our map below, as long as you are in the right general area the incredible aroma of the grills will guide you the last few

A visit to one of Ibiza’s huge super-clubs may be on your holiday to do list. But seasoned clubber or not, you’ll enjoy a night at Santa Eulalia’s only late night club—a munch more intimate and friendly affair than it’s bigger sisters. Located directly on Santa Eulalia marina waterfront, if you dance til dawn you will also be treated to the spectacular sight of an Ibiza dawn rising over the sea. The days of the straw donkey are as dead as a dropped donkey. What Grandma really wants as a gift from your Ibiza adventure is the latest in acrylic bong technology. Don’t know what to get your mates at work—how about some matching grinders? Of course it doesn’t have to be a gift, what better way to fill that last space in the suitcase than with some stock from Grow Submarine’s extensive range of cannabis culture stock? From Rizla’s up, though we warn you that attempting to board a Ryanair flight with a full hydrophonic growing system may incur excess baggage fees.

Food & Drink

La Cantina is a bar and restaurant right on San Antonio’s fountains square. A local legend, it has stood in the same spot and run by the same family since way back when it was by some way the biggest building on the waterfront in what was an unrecognisable San Antonio. With a pedigree of such distinction, you won’t find a better place for a traditional Paella or some fresh caught local fish. But it also offers far more. The La Cantina kitchen is also home to 3 specialist chefs each taking care over their respective Thai, Indian and TexMex division.

At last the summer season is here again and so is the Thursday evening Hippie Market in Cala Llonga. The market takes place every Thursday evening from 6pm with an array of locally hand crafted articles such as clothes, jewellery, trinkets, pottery and much more, produced by some of Ibiza's finest artisans all at reasonable prices. Located on the promenade it's a perfect place to wander along under the evening stars while listening to live music, looking for a perfect gift, souvenir or personal treat. In addition to this there's a wide variety of international bars and restaurants for you to enjoy and a safe playground for the little ones. There's ample free parking just a few metres away.

Food & Drink See adverts on facing page, front page & food and drink page for contacts, hours, and location.

 Tapas Restaurant and Lounge Bar One top tip to start with—it is best to book. Tapas is one of the most popular places to eat in San An, and in the height of summer you may have quite a wait to get seated if you haven't booked in advance. Tapas is all about global flavours, but served in a traditional Spanish Tapas style of small plates perfect for sharing. They have a fantastic range of vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options on the menu too.

A flagship Void install, in the right hands the music at Eden will make you feel music as you have never felt it before. See our ‘At Night’ and ‘Agenda’ sections for what’s on.

 Plastik Plastik holds top spot as San Antonio’s premier pre-party bar. Putting the VIP experience within reach of non-VIP pockets, it is the perfect place to experience some style for a night out, or as a party starter for later clubbing. Plastik’s masterful resident DJs are joined most nights of the week by headliners from some of Ibiza’s biggest club nights.

 Viva Tennis With 5 top quality courts (2 clay, 3 artificial grass), a bar, pool, sun-terrace and beautiful garden Viva Tennis is the essential destination on Ibiza to play tennis and relax with friends. Whether you are a complete beginner or regular player their team of international coaches can improve anyone’s game.

Community Weather Saturday 16 Friday 15th—Thursday 21st June 2018 ARIES – Two of Wands Don’t sit on the fence this week Aries, time to get back into the swing of things. Life’s a party that’s waiting for you to join it! Your problems are solvable; don’t waste time inventing problems where few exist. Your mind is your biggest obstacle this week; don’t give in to negativity when in fact everything is fine. TAURUS - Ace of Swords Clear decision making is a rare ability however, this week you're able to cut through the indecisiveness and procrastination of others, in order to get your desired result. If you’re involved in any legal matters, it denotes triumph over your opponents. If you're the sporting type, you make a formidable opponent. No-one will get the better of you this week! GEMINI – Six of Swords Release emotional pain by creating some distance physically and energetically from those that have hurt you. You're moving out of stormy waters and into calmer seas, so it won’t do to dwell on the past. The waters of emotion depicted on this card work to heal old wounds. Music becomes your healing; tune into the sounds that make you happy. CANCER - Five of Wands Time to grips over the actions of someone close that’s been troubling you for some time. If a friendship, relationship or business association is niggling; communication's the key to sorting the problem. Find solutions in a harmonious way and you will be surprised at the love that comes your way. In business you’re a smooth operator with powers of persuasion! LEO – Two of Pentacles (reversed) A disorganised week as nothing seems to go according to plan. Don’t give up though as it’s only a temporary glitch. It means that you have to get on top of practical matters, which you can only do if you adhere to some kind of schedule. Keep a tight budget and if you lose something, it will eventually turn up. VIRGO – The Hierophant If you’ve been experiencing a little chaos in certain areas of your life, then you will need to set boundaries or impose some much-needed discipline or routine. Have faith that the structures on which you base your life are sound and reliable. You’re experiencing a profound shift in the way you live your life; so, enjoy and embrace it! LIBRA – Knight of Wands Take opportunities to travel; especially for career or to further your education. The people you meet and what you will learn could end up having a big impact on your future. Creative Libra’s do especially well this week as others are more than willing to back your bright ideas. New business opportunities will also flourish, and colleagues are appreciative. SCORPIO - The Tower If it looks like important plans are going pear-shaped this week it's because something’s been overlooked and you're possibly the culprit. You've been in such a rush to complete a project and impress others, that you may miss something. Go back to the drawing board and review. This card also indicates that eureka moment; so, solutions can be found! SAGITTARIUS - Eight of Swords You feel a little ‘off’ and are likely to be overwhelmed by deadlines or the demands of others; you feel like running for the hills! Stop struggling with impulse to take a couple of duvet days. You need this to restore your equilibrium; others will just have to get on with it. Next week you’ll be back in the game. CAPRICORN - Knight of Pentacles Younger members of your family or friends need support and are looking to you for inspiration. This may be intrusive at times, but you will be rewarded by seeing how much they flourish under your guidance. If you’re put in the position of mentor; give them encouragement. Some will be thinking of relocating in order to pursue a financial ambition. AQUARIUS - The Emperor Taking responsibility for one’s actions is a sign of maturity. This week, associates, loved ones and family will sit up and take notice. They sense a "new" you; someone more determined and single minded about what they want to achieve. You've laid foundations for a new way of life and will only operate on your terms and not someone else's. PISCES - Five of Swords It may be difficult for you to keep a lid on your temper as you discover what’s been going on behind your back. You’ll be pretty upset by the underhanded dealings of others as you are usually a good judge of character. Sometimes you trust unconditionally only to find you’ve been hoodwinked by a charming attitude. Time to wise up!

View From The Pew In the 9th Century BC, in the ancient Near East, a Jewish prophet, Elijah, makes an historic pilgrimage to Mount Sinai. He needs an encounter with God. He is also escaping for his life. Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, king of Israel, has vowed to have Elijah killed. Assassins are out to kill him. At the summit of Mount Sinai there is an horrendous earthquake, storm winds, and lightening. An ancient history of Israel, now part of the Bible, known as First Kings, written in Hebrew in the 6th Century, but dependent on more ancient court histories, describes

pronounced demama which can mean both “silence” and “stillness”. However, the third Hebrew word pronounced dakkah can only mean “thin” or something that is very “fine”. So instead of translating, “still small voice”, we could translate the phrase as “the voice in a thin slice of silence”. The voice of God was not in the earthquake, storm winds or lightening but in the thin slice of silence. Do we cultivate those precious thin slices of silence? In our personal earthquakes, winds and fire the voice of God can come through in the slice of silence.

Spokeswoman Verónica Núñez encouraged "everyone" to spend Saturday afternoon in the square, in an outdoor playful environment with musical performances, storytelling and creative workshops, and show their support for the protection of the Mediterranean by signing their allegation against the prospecting project. The Protagonists

The first project in this unique space was the memorable exhibition by the artist KAWS. In 2016, La Nave Salinas was transformed into a theatre to show two 3D audiovisual installations of the artist Marco Brambilla. In 2017, Keith Haring was the protagonist of a monumental exhibition that brought together some of his most iconic and representative pieces. In 2018, La Nave Salinas welcomes one of the most prestigious names of video art, Bill Viola. La Nave Salinas will once again transform itself through an unexpected and surprising large-scale installation.  Ses Salinas The exhibition runs from June 21 to September 30 at La Nave Salinas, Carrer La Canal 2 12-13.  Claire B Opening on June 21, Lio Malca is pleased to present two large- www.lanavesalinas.org scale installations by Bill Viola at La Nave Salinas. Bill Viola is one of the pioneers of video art and a living legend of contemporary art. Two of the artist's most acclaimed works, Fire Woman and Tristan's Ascension (The Sound of a Mountain Under a Waterfall), can be enjoyed this summer. “Art is, for me, the process of trying to wake up the soul. Because we live in an industrialized, fast-paced world that prefers that the soul remains asleep.” - Bill Viola.

Ibiza Gay Pride  Ibiza Town  Claire B This week has seen Ibiza Gay Pride return to the island, with a 4-day programme with activities for all ages, from exhibitions, films, lectures, theatre, parties and of course, the great march for the rights of the LGTBI community on Saturday, June 16. The motto for this year is ‘for LGTBIQ rights in the world, let’s change the world’, acknowledging that whilst Ibiza is a very tolerant and open-minded place, the experiences for many people around the world are still very different. The march is still a very important part of Gay Pride around the world, giving visibility on the streets and promoting equality for the LGTBIQ community. It begins at 7pm from the Fishermen’s Guild in the Port of Ibiza, reaching the Avenida de los Andenes, in the Marina. After the march, the manifesto will be read followed by a party with DJs and performers. Everyone in Ibiza is encouraged to participate in the march, which will be a colourful, loud and fun procession, if other years are to go on.

Fire Woman and Tristan’s Ascension

In collaboration with Bill Viola and the Bill Viola Studio, Fire Woman and Tristan's Ascension will be presented on a 22-foot high screen inside a space completely closed off from the outside and together with a 4.1 sound system, will envelop the viewer in a transformative experience. These installations, on loan courtesy of Bill Viola Studio, were created in 2005 as part of a new production by Peter Sellars of Richard Wagner’s opera Tristan and Isolde. Lio Malca chose these works carefully. He notes: “I have always been a great admirer of Bill Viola’s work. From the first moment I entered La Nave, I have always visualized that one day his work would be projected on a large scale. owever much we may aspire to ‘live the dream’ under the Mediterranean sun, there are a few things from our native land that are commonly missed among the British & Irish community in Ibiza.

Internet Not so long ago, Ibiza had universally poor internet service, which in some areas offered little more than dial up modem connection speeds. Things are changing, and those parts of the Island covered by Fibre Optic enjoy

300mb speeds that exceed those back in Blighty—but there are still many areas of Ibiza that have very patchy service at best. Satellite and 4g internet reaches the parts fixed connections cannot, and though other services are available, that offered by Fusion has the added advantage of operating through a UK VPN, giving access to all UK location reliant services without any additional software or connection gizmos.

Television Our refusal to give up sports & soaps has meant UK Satellite TV has been available in Spain for many years, however all of Satellite Solutions, A.H. Satellite and Fusion, also offer a range of alternatives including IPTV running through your internet connection, and multi channel boxes that take your TV beyond our native shores to global services with the sports fan’s reassurance of ‘if it’s on, you can get it’.

Shebizan  Amanda O’Riordan Who needs to confine shenanigans to a day, when there’s a whole week scribbled in the diary? Yes, it’s time to start my birthday celebrations. This weekend (Friday pm) kicks off with the brilliant Hacienda Classical Concert in the grounds of Kenwood House on Hampstead Heath, conveniently close to home. Bleary eyed, we’re then flying to Mallorca on Saturday morning for a “proper” Med weekend, before returning to normality on Monday morning. It’s taken until now to finally learn an important lesson whilst drinking in the sunshine. Namely, consuming plenty of water at the same time. A drill that’s easy to forget - a bottle of water for every bottle of fizz, etc. But what about the plastic trail that comes with water consumption- a massive global issue? I’d like to introduce you to the Puritii Water Filter Bottle.

Converse Pride Collection The Puritii bottle is the most unique on the market. No other bottle filters every contaminant. Tap water is recycled up to 7 times and carries harmful chemicals, pharmaceuticals, fluoride, ammonia and chlorine, which can’t be filtered. It also contains bacteria that can cause stomach upsets, poisonous algae that encourage cancer cells to breed and ageing skin. The incredible triple layer filter system provides healthy water, saving you heaps of money in the process. And the real beauty of this bottle is that each single filter can potentially prevent 455 plastic bottles from hitting the environment (that could be up to 350,000 plastic bottles in your lifetime). This incredible bottle can be filled at any water source, including Ibiza taps or muddy ponds, as it filters water to 99.99% pure. Not that I’ll be embarking on the mud test, mind. They went down a storm at the 2017 Clockwork Ibiza Weekender and were road tested by Clockwork’s Danny Gould last weekend on the white isle, to a huge thumbs-up. My good friend Lisa Jo has taken a £15k supply to 3 villages in Africa, where they are now able to provide fresh water from filthy water holes. It's time to celebrate the LGBTQ Pride month of June with our favourite retro sporty sneaker brand, Converse. A colourful new collection in honour of Pride has been designed by pansexual singer Miley Cyrus, who makes her debut as a fashion designer. Miley has been an outspoken voice for the LGBTQ community for years, and all proceeds from the range will go to supporting the LGBTQ community. The 10-piece sporty collection features all the colours of the rainbow and includes 4 pairs of sneakers, a hoodie and trackie pants. Or a classy tracksuit, let’s call it. Everything is reasonable at around the £50 mark. The sneakers all have rainbow soles, as well as polka dot and stripe designs. Look out for the Happy Hippie logo, which represents the organisation that ‘rallies young people to fight injustice’.

All right-on, and all so wearable. As much as I am not usually one for wearing political fashion, I am 100% behind this very cool collection. www.converse.com

Crayola Unveils Makeup Collection Hands up who remembers trays of broken crayons in infant school? And how about trying to draw all over your face with crayons? Well, the mother of all crayon brands, Crayola, has come up with a brilliant idea for us adults. Yes, you can now re-live childhood memories with the new Crayola beauty makeup collection. Launched last week and available exclusively from ASOS, the 58part collection features colourful face crayons, mascaras, eyeshadows, highlighters, all boxed in the brand’s iconic yellow and green packaging. And if that wasn’t cool enough, all of the products are cruelty-free and vegan. How very 21st Century. ASOS says, “Crayola has only gone and launched a range of makeup based on its COLORFUL wax crayons, and our inner child is beyond excited. Who cares if you colour outside the lines?” The makeup’s bright pigments and shades have been made to look as vibrant on the skin as a crayon would be on paper, allowing lots of creative ideas. There’s even a pencil case-like makeup bag and matching brushes. My daughter and I are definitely going to be fighting over who gets what.

Headcases Here’s a great belated idea for Fathers’ Day that’s also a giggle for those upcoming summer holidays. We’ve all been there. I would suggest that the following is a regular occurrence at Palma and Ibiza airports. You’ve drunk the entire drinks trolley on the plane, passed out in your seat and now you’re standing uneasily at the baggage carousel, struggling to identify your suitcase. The experience of having someone mistakenly grab your bag from the baggage carousel is commonplace. Lots of suitcases look alike. Nobody wants the hassle of reporting lost luggage (and having no holiday clothes to wear), when sleeping

by the pool beckons. Why not help expedite the experience at passport control, by going all out and splashing a full photo of your face across your suitcase? Introducing the Head Case Suitcase Cover. Their spandex wrap covers, featuring your giant printed face, are slipped over your luggage. It’s a temporary cover that you can slip off when it isn’t required. Especially if it’s a posh luggage brand that you want to show-off. The Head Case Suitcase Cover comes in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Each one is made from an elastic spandex and polyester blend, and can stretch to any suitcase dimension in its respective size, with holes where the handles are usually found.

While they will probably accept most images you’d like printed on the cover, private parts might be rejected, unless that’s how you want to be identified in the lost luggage office? But make sure you upload a high-resolution photo, since they’re going to blow it up to king size on a stretchy fabric. So the more pixels you upload, the better it’s likely to look. They print the same image on both sides, too, so you should be able to easily recognize your luggage whether it’s facing one way or the other. A bargain at £19.99. I guarantee lots of giggles in the arrivals halls this summer. www.firebox.com

Sharp eyed readers will have noticed that despite all best efforts at getting the times right, our planner in issue 882 was incorrect and listed British time. We can now say with absolute confidence—All Times Are Local Spanish—probably!
