A Jolly Decent Show The much anticipated wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle has taken place today, Saturday 19th of May, and the general consensus of opinion is of a jolly decent show all round. Though delighted for the happy couple, we must concede that our experience of Royal matrimonial matters is somewhat lacking, and though we have a pretty good idea what our readers will want to

know as far as Ibiza’s wacky ways are concerned, the significance of a peony posy, beyond being a perfectly pretty bunch of flowers, is as much a mystery to team Ibizan as our island ways would be to anyone with past experience of Government policies following some form of logic. Never fear dear reader, as in our determination to bring you all the important Royal Wedding news,

we have looked to the wisdom of The Independent’s Rachel Hosie, who, through years of Royal expert-dom, has kindly directed us in all matters important. Well it’s the Independent right? Quality paper, what could go wrong?

1. Amal v Posh I will admit I was surprised that a topic relating to the ceremony or (Continued on page 2)

The Wedding (Continued from page 1)

the couple’s future happiness might be the Number 1 wedding topic, but according to Rachel you are all far more concerned with whether human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, wearing yellow, had a bigger effect on the twittersphere (?) than Posh, who apparently wasn’t smiling. Are you really bothered? Can we skip this? Sorry, I just don’t want to do it, you can read it in the ‘quality broadsheet’ the Independent if you want to.

2. Princesses Eugenie & Beatrice’s hats This centres on the princesses wearing hats that Rachel considered too flamboyant at the last wedding. Now, idiots, can you believe it, they’ve only gone and worn hats that are not flamboyant enough. I was going to skip by it for similar reasons until I read the last line, which sounds pretty serious, Rachel says “Disappointingly however, the princesses swung completely the other way and decided to play it safe with their somewhat boring choice of hats. Perhaps the princesses are yet to recover from their humiliation seven years ago.” Seriously? A hat so bad it can invoke 7 years of humiliation? Are these hats still on the streets? And what are we going to do to help the Princesses Rachel? I mean you must want to help them get over the trauma, the only other reason you’d make that comment is if you were some nasty, vicious little bitch who would somehow revel in another person’s seven year millinery misery - and it can’t be that can it, not with you being a Royal expert and working for the Independent and all.? I feel I should reiterate at this point, that I am not cherry picking here, trying to find the odd slip up of Rachel. These are her 9 things being most talked about. I have to mention that because to me it frankly seems mental. But I’m not a Royal insider-expert, so what do I know? Perhaps things will improve.

3. Fergie arrived!? Well unfortunately we do not seem to have upped our game at all. In fact I think this is possibly the most ridiculous, puerile, bitchy, crap I have ever seen in the media. Fair dos though, I’ll give her the first point. “Considering Sarah Ferguson, ex-wife of Prince Andrew, was apparently rather unhappy about not making the guest list for Prince Charles’s evening reception, it was widely thought she wouldn’t be attending the wedding at all.”. Yep, we’ve talked about little else down the pub, and the smart money was on a no show. But there’s more. Rachel rambles on, “So when Fergie arrived, looking incredibly pleased with herself, gasps of shock erupted across the

“A

ll is not what it seems: Left: A Black Man Shouting left senior Royals confused, and younger ones trying not to laugh, claims reporter Rosie. Right: though they look a picture of grace and style now, little do these young wedding goers know that their choice of headwear will give them long term mental health issues. Don’t take our word for it, listen to Royal-ism specialist Rosie from The Independent - it’s a quality paper after all”

world. This was followed by expressions of confusion as she was for some unknown reason wearing just the one glove. An act of rebellion, perhaps?“ Glad she pointed that out as I didn’t have a clue what all the worldwide gasps were in aid of, and the following universal confusion had me baffled. But more importantly, what is going on with rich people’s clothing? They have hats that leave you suicidal for 7 years, and gloves that threaten to initiate a communist uprising. I can select all sorts of options when I’m shopping at Asos - size, colour, style, but I’ve never yet refined my search by threat of psychological damage, or usefulness when storming the winter palace.

4. Pippa Middleton as can of ice tea No, sorry, I can’t be bothered, let’s move on, we’re nearly half way.

5. Prince Harry is wearing a ring Brilliant, it had to come up, something actually about the wedding. Apparently Royals don’t usually wear a ring, a fact that at the outset of Rachel’s guide I’d have considered fairly inane, but in the context of everything else, I’ll take it. Fascinating stuff.

6. Meghan half walked down aisle More wedding stuff—promising? Sadly no, as Rachel’s first comment is that “In something of a feminist statement, the now-Duchess of Sussex entered the chapel unaccompanied and began her walk down the aisle by herself.” I might not be privy to the radical feminist left wing, but I expect that even the jam making arm of the W.I. would like to think that women’s lib had got them some way further than the ability to walk unaided. Ride into church on a Harley Davidson screaming all men are rapists and punching the vicar, and I’ll consider it a feminist statement. Walking a little way on your own is just what most of us would call walking. I think Rachel is barking up the wrong tree there. Well she’s definitely barking.

DANGER! They may be innocent enough worn in pairs, but when worn alone, a single glove can lead to mild agitation and if left unchecked even rebellion and insurrection can occur. Don’t find out the hard way like Fergie—say no to solo gloving. Also Right: a not so cute, virally cute page boy.

7. The pageboy's priceless reaction

Cute pageboy goes viral on social media. Well I’ll leave that one at the comment I’ve seen cuter. (bottom left)

8. Bishop Curry’s address Frankly I’m terrified to read this one. If Fergie wearing one glove indicates an attempt to overthrow the throne, how is Rachel going to deal with a Black man shouting stuff? Badly is how ...“And it seemed some of the wedding guests weren’t quite sure how to respond; younger members of the royal family appeared to be stifling laughs, while their older relatives simply looked utterly confused by the unconventional address.” Nice swerve there Rachel. I think what was actually happening was that some Royals were wearing their uncontrollable laughing socks and the older relatives do just look utterly confused, because they are old and utterly confused. I’ve a feeling you would have been pretty uncomfortable with a shouting black man though, and if you haven’t made a bitchy aside to one of your fellow bitches by the end of the day, along the lines of ‘well I knew this would happen, once you let one in …’ I would be amazed.

9. The gospel choir Thankfully Rachel found the gospel choir far less threatening, presumably as singing is much more what is expected of black people than shouting. Indeed she enjoyed it so much that she declares “we (you’ve been around the Royals too much love, getting ideas above your station), we predict a new craze at weddings across the UK.” That would presumably be at wedding across the UK that are not the weddings of the gospel choirs’ own churches, where they would be likely to consider it more ‘normal’ than a ‘craze’. And there we have it readers, I promised we would not let our inexperience in the world of Royal correspondents prevent us from bringing you everything you wanted to know about today’s wedding. With the help of Rosie’s insight and Royal expert-dom, and her encyclopaedic knowledge of the harmful properties of everyday clothing items, we have not left you wanting. Unless you wanted to know anything about the service of course, anything that wasn’t a black man shouting, or the happy couple’s interaction, but why would you want to know that?

News Government Fear Airline Price Rise

The president of the Government Francina Armengol will meet with airlines, shipping companies and travel agencies to address the new 75% resident’s discount. The fear of the Balearic Executive is that the companies will take advantage of the higher discount in travel between the islands and peninsula by raising their prices, thereby ensuring the discount doesn’t reach the pockets of citizens. In the meeting, due to be held Wednesday 23rd, Armengol will ask companies not to raise their prices once the discount is applied. According to the forecasts of the Govern, the improvement of the resident discount from 50 to 75% will come into effect from the end of July, in full peak season, and the Executive wants to know how the companies will face "this jump", explained the Minister of Territory and Transport, Marc Pons. The meeting will be led by the President of the Government and will be attended by airlines, shipping companies and travel agencies. "We will convey this monitoring by the Government so that the increase in the discount means a reduction in the final price", detailed Pons. The reduction of 75% will occur in the part of the ticket price and not the fees, so that the effective reduction will actually be around 50%, depending on the route. Thus, a plane ticket to travel to Madrid (round trip) that now costs 79€ will be 41€, while a ticket to Barcelona of 99€ would be 45€. making their point: Greenpeace demonstrate in Ibiza waters

The Road To Cala Compte To Close Private vehicles will no longer have access The city of San Jose will close the last stretch of road that reaches Playa de Compte due to the “incivility of many users” who park at the edges of the road causing problems and situations of “circulatory chaos”. A report from the Local Police of Sant Josep handed to the Consistory, indicates the need to install a temporary barrier only allowing access to emergency services, buses, taxis, vehicles with reduced mobility owners and supply vehicles. The mayor has already met with representatives of the owners of the affected lands to address the problem and seek a joint solution; the Consistory is already working to make the closure “effective as soon as possible”. Despite the fact that the final section of the road and the roundabout are "clearly marked", Sant Josep regrets that it is usual for "dozens of vehicles" to park on the road, creating situations that cause serious mobility problems and, on occasion, even prevent the passage of buses. The City Council, in its note, admits that the Local Police are "overwhelmed" by the volume of vehicles parked in the area, despite agents constantly "fining the offenders and towing vehicles". Last summer San Jose closed the cliffs to traffic for security reasons and to curb environmental damage caused by cars. After an agreement with the landowner, it is possible to park on an area of about 26,000 square metres located on the left of the road.

Ibiza Kestrel Family Live Webcam

We love to share happiness and this has to be up there! Back in March a pair of Kestrels arrived at the Ibicenco Sa Colomina Institute with the intention of building their nest there. When aware of their intentions, an environmental group contacted the educational centre to offer them advice so that nesting would be successful. A week ago, 4 eggs were laid and Sa Colomina has installed a live webcam to follow the family and chicks progress. Ibiza Sabor Spring 2018 Nicholas Gibbs Ibiza Sabor is in its 7th year. The grumpy old man in me has an auto-disdain for the organisers’ insistence on the official title being #IbizaSabor18, a marketing decision that by my reckoning is contradictory to at least 4 of the ‘history, tradition, culture, creativity and adventure’ elements of the strapline that follows it, but I cannot let such nonsense detract from what is without doubt one of the highlights of Ibiza’s rich gastronomic calendar. Sabor is the Spanish word for flavour. Conveniently it is also the Catalan word for the same, and you may see the event marketed as Eivissa Sabor (actually #EivissaSabor18) depending where you are looking.

You may also see sabor translated as ‘taste’, but this event is about far more than the mechanical act of tasting, it is about flavour—a word that feels all the more apt if you know that it derives from the old French word ‘flaor’, which gained its letter V from savour. Of course Google is American and so doesn’t understand that it has failed to explain the letter U in flavour, but as it fits our purpose we’ll run with it—Ibiza’s flavours to savour - a perfect description.

Flavours to Savour

Sabor actually happens twice a year, in Spring and again in Autumn. This spring they have a record 54 restaurants

participating around the island, however it is not the quantity but the quality of venues that cannot fail to impress. From the Vara de Rey institution that is Ca N’Alfredo to the interesting (to a newspaper editor at least) La Imprenta—so named as it occupies the building that housed the Diario de Ibiza’s first printing press—and from Botafoch’s biggest and best in La Gaia at the Gran Hotel, to the discreet luxury of Mirador high in the D’alt Vila; name after name leaves you amazed they can be accessible for the menu del dia value offered. The Spring festival finishes Sunday May 27th, so you have a final week to take advantage, though for many of our resident and summer worker readers the coming week will not only be their last chance to indulge in Ibiza Sabor,

Food & Drink but their last chance to do pretty well anything until the back end of September. If you are going to have one last long and leisurely Spanish lunch, why not do it in style? The participating venues offer either or both of the event options—a set 3 course menu at a fixed price of 25€, and/ or a tapas and drink for 6€. Most of those offering the 3 course menu have time restrictions on when it is available, but frankly that is only to be expected in restaurants where a 3 course meal would normally cost you twice the price if not more. In addition to the special menus around Ibiza, the event goes further in the promotion and advancement of Ibiza’s produce and culinary prowess. A highlight of the Spring season has been the hosting of the 3rd Professional Forum for Mediterranean Gastronomy - distinguished by the presence of no less than Ángel León, of three-Michelinstar fame for his restaurant Aponiente in Cádiz.

Restaurante S’Illot Playa de s’illot des Renclí, San Juan, Tel. 971 320 585 “An iconic restaurant, located on a beautiful cove in the north of the island, where one can sample the most exquisite varieties of fresh fish, bursting with flavour, or perhaps one of the stellar dishes of local gastronomy, “guisat de peix”. The desserts are veterans of a culinary tradition that has been carried forward for countless generations.”

Celebrate Ibiza’s Traditional Gastronomy Coinciding with the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, which thankfully has not been contracted to #EuroCultHer18, the brief for the 54 participants was to create dishes that celebrate Ibiza’s traditional gastronomy and bring some innovative new twists on those ancestral recipes. To be honest, I think the brief is always something along those lines, so enough of the hyperbole— let’s get down to business with what to expect. You will find no shortage of Ibiza’s traditional dishes on offer. These include such glorious gastronomy as “bullit de peix”, “guisat de peix”,“borrida de rajada”, “arròs de matances” and “sofrit pagés”, plus the dessert favourites of “flaó” and “Greixonera”, The menus throw up some really interesting surprises, but as a rule of thumb the swankier the restaurant, the greater the level of ‘interpretation and elevation’ you may

Cala Gracioneta Chiringuito Cala Gracioneta, San Antonio, Tel. 971 348 338 With the dream team of our favourite host Javier, of Villa Mercedes fame, and guidance of Chef David Reartes, the restaurant at Cala Gracioneta beach offers a menu replete with local produce, including their own version of “flaó”, one of Ibiza’s most traditional desserts.

expect. If you have a taste for the traditional, choose any of the many rural and coastline family run restaurants and you’ll come away with an authentic Ibizan experience. Equally those with an eye on Europe’s cutting edge culinary creatives will have plenty of choice to explore modern technique and trends. Of course the tricky decision is for those who are in the early stages of a relationship. Can you ever take a date to something that has a ‘great value’ association, even if the food is fantastic? Best bet, spend what you save on an awesome bottle of wine. Sensible with money, but not tight. Add to that your newly acquired refined knowledge of local cuisine gained by reading the Ibiza sabor booklet below, and without doubt you’ll be knocking her bandy. We end with a couple of very good examples of menus on offer. From the traditional fayre and timeless charm of S’Illot, to the innovative cuisine and bohemian beach-chic of Chiringuito. Costas Authorises New Beach Bar In Cala Gració The Government and Sant Antoni had also given the go-ahead in April (photo Martin Makepeace) Costas has granted permission to build a new chiringuito of 70 square metres in Cala Gració, near the Sant Antoni water treatment plant. This installation on the coast counted on the appropriate permissions of the conselleria of Territory of the Government and the City council of Sant Antoni. The chiringuito will have 11 tables and 38 chairs and will have an enclosed space and terrace. The authorisation for this new restaurant in Cala Gració was published in the Bocaib on February 25 of last year. Neighbours of the area clearly had their doubts about the legality of the construction in Cala Gració, however the chiringuito has all the permits. Residents in the area are against the installation of such establishments on the coast of Sant Antoni.

Update

San Antonio are planning to paralyse the project after it detected ‘irregularities’ in a new review of the file.

728,000€ Road Improvement Near Complete 60km speed limit along the whole stretch The Consell de Ibiza has undertaken the last phase of the improvement and adaptation works of the EI-200 highway, in its stretch between Sant Carles de Peralta and sa Cala de Sant Vicent, with an execution cost of 728.439€. The works carried out by the Consell’s Road Network department began last February and range from kilometre 13,560 to 19,320 between the municipalities of anta Eulalia and Sant Joan. The rehabilitation project consists mainly in the replacement of the road surface. The project has also included the clearing of vegetation and cleaning the margins of the road and the management of slops along the route to avoid landslides in rainy season. As part of the project, the speed limit has been reduced to 60km along the entire route.

Lifeguards In Talamanca, Ses Figueretes & Playa d’en Bossa First aid service begins on three beaches in the municipality of Ibiza The bathing areas are now monitored by six lifeguards, which will increase to 11 in peak season The company Proactiva Servicios Acuáticos are now providing their services in the three beaches of the municipality of Ibiza: Talamanca, Ses Figueretes and Playa d'en Bossa. A total of 11 lifeguards will cover them throughout the season. The service started on Tuesday 15th May with six lifeguards, two on each beach from 12noon-6pm. From June to 30th September, the number of lifeguards will increase to eleven: there will be four in Talamanca

Pacha Police Probe Pacha opened its doors for the first time on the 4th May after its first winter closed to the public. In order to give a grand entrance, VIP guests were summoned to the Hotel Pacha and then escorted across the road to the club recently reformed by architect Juli Capellá. Two police officers escorted guests across the road by cutting through the traffic on Avenida 8 de Agosto and taking partygoers into the club itself. The two men then stood on the podium in the centre of the dancefloor and ordered the DJ to “cut the music”, with disgruntled whistles from the crowd. When their order was not heeded, they started dancing and it became clear they were not Local Police despite their epaulettes, handcuffs and very similar uniforms. The stunt has backfired however as the club is being investigated for the crime of ‘impersonating a police officer’ and in article 402 carries a custodial sentence of between 1 month and 3 years. Local party EPIC have called it “a shameful mockery to the police” and consider that Pacha should “apologise”. A shameful mockery or harmless stunt?

and Ses Figueretes, and three in Playa d'en Bossa available from 11am-7pm. During the months of July and August, the lifeguard duty will increase during weekends and holidays patrolling between 11am-8pm. Finally, from the 1st October to the 15th the schedule will return to 12-6pm with six lifeguards, two per beach. The new service has three external defibrillators, a jet ski and a rescue boat based in the Talamanca beach and that of ses Figueretes. There are two first aid modules in Talamanca and Ses Figueretes. Photo: Pau Ferragut Diario

Traffic Restricted To Cala Salada & Saladeta Traffic restrictions to Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta are in place for the third consecutive summer as of 15th May 2018. The restrictions have been put in place to ensure the safety of visitors to the beaches and preservation of the environment. Residents of the area who wish to renew their passes can do so at the control point. Those who have lost their pass or need to request one for the first time should go directly to the Town Hall on the Passeig de la Mar, San Antonio to apply. The public bus service runs from San Antonio bus station to the beach, stopping at the Can Coix Sports complex and starts on Friday 18th May. Buses will leave every 30 minutes between the hours of 9.30-11am. After 11am the buses will run every 15 minutes until 8.15pm. San Antonio Bay Food & Drink

Little India, Authentic Sri Lankan & Indian Restaurant The restaurant that puts the Bom in the Bay, Chef Vipula puts his Sri Lankan heritage into every delicious dal, beautiful biriyani and majestic madras that leaves his kitchen. Unsurprisingly, it can get busy in the summer months, so if planning ahead a booking on their website is a good idea. If exhausted by a hard day on the beach, a take-away service is available to be enjoyed back in the hotel – expect neighbour-envy as those glorious smells waft across the balcony.

Johnny’s Pub, Established 1993 Johnny’s is a Bay institution. Popular with locals and tourists alike, they are open for food to eat in and takeaway from morning through to late—usually very late, and at some point on your holiday, you’ll be glad of that. We locals can’t have their exceptional English breakfast (above) as often as we’d like, but you’re on holiday, so indulge yourself. Just 4,75€ gets you double British sausage and bacon, double egg, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, fried slice, toast and tea or coffee—plus a portion of jam for reasons we’ve never fully understood.

Relish Restaurant & Lounge Bar Just footsteps from the beach of Cala De Bou, the restaurant and bar extends into a large covered terrace, gardens and a private pool for the exclusive use of relish patrons. Plus on Sundays Relish offers a traditional Sunday Roast. Relish pride themselves on a simple philosophy - good food, cooked well, fairly priced.

Tourist Guide Entertainment Guarana Nightclub, Santa Eulalia Marina A visit to one of Ibiza’s huge super-clubs may be on your holiday to do list. But seasoned clubber or not, you’ll enjoy a night at Santa Eulalia’s only late night club—a munch more intimate and friendly affair than it’s bigger sisters. Located directly on Santa Eulalia marina waterfront, if you dance til dawn you will also be treated to the spectacular sight of an Ibiza dawn rising over the sea. Sunset is for your mates, sunrise is for your soul-mate.

Viva Cala Llonga Viva Cala Llonga At last the summer season is here again and so is the Thursday evening Hippie Market in Cala Llonga. The market takes place every Thursday evening from 6pm with an array of locally hand crafted articles such as clothes, jewellery, trinkets, pottery and much more, produced by some of Ibiza's finest artisans all at reasonable prices. Located on the promenade it's a perfect place to wander along under the evening stars while listening to live music, looking for a perfect gift, souvenir or personal treat. In addition to this there's a wide variety of international bars and restaurants for you to enjoy and a safe playground for the little ones. There's ample free parking just a few metres away.

The spectacular Ibiza Old Town capped with the Dalt Vila Booking with immediate confirmation is available on the website.

More Great Food You’ll also find great food in Donnegans Irish Pub, Playa Bella and Kumharas—all of whom are listed in the entertainment section. Also we have to recommend going local during your stay. Nothing beats a long lazy lunch of fresh cooked paella on the beach with a jug or three of sangria to wash it down.

Entertainment The Watersports Shop

A most welcome addition to the lower bay road (carrer des calo) in 2017, the watersports shop have a huge range of bookable activities on and under the water, for individuals and groups. Browse their range of jetskis, stand up paddle, seadoos, speedboat trips, and the awesome hoverboard and flyboard sessions, from the comfort of their shop, and then take the activity from any of their four beach concessions—which makes them one of the biggest watersports operators in Ibiza. If not near the shop you can also book online via their website. See ad right for details and location.

Peppers2 Party Bar Dance till dawn? You betcha, and we don’t want any of that ‘I’m too old for all that now’ nonsense either. In Ibiza there is no such thing as too old, and Peppers2 is a fine example of an all night party bar that will see everybody from barely legal to rather regal bopping the night away. See the agenda for special events, but every night you are guaranteed a warm welcome from Chaz and the team. Take a cocktail or two on the terrace, then head inside to show us your moves.

Donnegans Irish Pub It is hard to know what category to list Donnegans, as they do many things, and do them all very well. Day and night it is a bar with a welcome as warm as the draught Guiness and magners are cold. They show all sports including hurling, and have a great menu of reasonabl;y priced home cooked food from snacks to full meals. But it is perhaps their entertainment that really sets them apart. With a regular line up of live performers with the common denominator of making sure everyone has a great time. Check our agenda and their facebook for events.

Playa Bella Cabaret Terrace Fancy some good old family cabaret? The Playa Bella apartments kick off with nightly cash Bingo hosted by our own mister thriller from Aston Villa, Chip, and once your eyes are restored to their regular horizontal position, the night continues with a roster of live cabaret featuring everything from tribute acts to comedy to drag and some very talented musical acts. All this takes place on their beachfront terrace which also has a great range of food available day and night.

Only In Ibiza

Grow Submarine, Head Shop The days of the straw donkey are as dead as a dropped donkey. What Grandma really wants as a gift from your Ibiza adventure is the latest in acrylic bong technology. Don’t know what to get your mates at work—how about some matching grinders?

Of course it doesn’t have to be a gift, what better way to fill that last space in the suitcase than with some stock from Grow Submarine’s extensive range of cannabis culture stock? From Rizla’s up, though we warn you that attempting to board a Ryanair flight with a full hydrophonic growing system may incur excess baggage fees.

Santa Eulalia Food & Drink

Los Otros, Vegan & Vegetarian Restaurant, Santa Eulaia There can be little doubting the vegan credentials of Los Otros, as not only do they offer a fine range of Italian food, the owner is an authoritative author of vegan cookbooks too. The setting is magical. Just meters from the water on the marina front of Santa Eulalia, your visit will have the reassuringly relaxing soundtrack of the clinking masts of moored yachts.

Sa Brasa, Grill Restaurant, Santa Eulalia Though you can see Sa Brasa’s exact location on our map below, as long as you are in the right general area the incredible aroma of the grills will guide you the last few metres. Cast all thoughts of a British barbeque aside– Ibiza’s best grill restaurants, of which Sa Brasa is undoubtedly one, take the concept of charcoal grilling to another level. The emphasis is all about providing the very best quality cuts of meat, and fresh fish that may well have been swimming within sight of the restaurant earlier the same day. You need to have a grill meal at least once while you are here, but if you do it early in your holiday our bet is you’ll be back for more.

Mariposa Pool Bar & Restaurant, Cala Llonga The idea of ‘living the dream’ under the Mediterranean sun becomes reality at the Mariposa. Nestled in the hills behind the Cala Llonga village, and with spectacular views out over the bay, the Mariposa team and regulars will give you the warmest of welcomes. Start your day with a bacon and brie toasted sandwich and café con leche, followed by a dip in the pool, and sip on some cocktails from your poolside lounger. Heaven.

Rev. Dr Peter Pimentel

In the languages of the Bible, ancient Hebrew and knows that there are other heavens too. Heavens, we would say today, other than the space-time reality of our universe. The Bible knows full well that there are other dimensions, other universes with their own unique space-time continuums. St. Paul, one of the founders of Christianity, in a letter in the middle of the 1st Century AD, refers to an experience he had in which, he says, he was, “caught up into the third heavens”. (2 Corinthians 12:1-11). He says that he didn’t know if he was in the body or

space time universes or dimensions. He says that God has blessed us in Jesus with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. That could be equally translated as “spiritual realms”. (Eph. 1:3). Followers of Jesus have been remembering and celebrating the Ascension of Jesus into the spiritual realms. St. Paul says that followers of Jesus have in some mystical sense been “raised up with Jesus into the spiritual realms.” (Eph.2.6).

out of the body, only God knows. In the third heavens he says he had visions and revelations. He said that this “third heavens” was a place called paradise. Paradise is the same place that Jesus was translated to at the moment of his death. Remember that the man crucified alongside Jesus, whilst they were being tortured, said to Jesus, “remember me when you come into your kingdom”. Jesus replied, “today you will be with me in paradise.” In another letter St. Paul also refers to the “heavenly realms”- other

Spiritual Realms Aramaic, the languages that Jesus spoke, the word for heaven is a plural noun. There is no word in the singular for heaven. The Hebrew word is pronounced shama-im. The Bible also has the curious phrase “the heavens of the heavens” – a double plural. A book in the Jewish Hebrew Bible says: "You are the LORD, you alone. You have made the heavens, the heaven of heavens.” (Nehemiah 9.6) The Bible, you see, thinks of heaven as not just the sky or outer space in which are the planets and the stars. The Bible

Friday 18th May—Thursday 24th May 2018 ARIES - Five of Cups

You’re never one to hang about if feeling unappreciated so best you don’t look back on what might have been. Cut your losses and stride forward to a brighter, better future. Much water has passed under the bridge regarding events that transpired last year; hanging on to resentment will only bring you more of the same. Forgive and release.

TAURUS - Ten of cups

This card’s so in its element in sensual Taurus. What's not to love about you this week? Others seek your company, with one or two of them proving useful allies especially where aspirations lay career wise; they can help to turn dreams into realities. Romantically you'll be beating them off with a stick, but be careful not to upset the applecart!

GEMINI - The Wheel of Fortune

Hold on to your hat Gemini; be prepared for a hectic week. Juggling personal and professional engagements will be stressful at times. You like to think you're master or mistress of your own ship however, be prepared for others to cause unexpected excitement or drama in your life. You alone must decide if this is a good or bad thing!

CANCER - The World

Your world is probably much more intimate than other signs. If all ticks along nicely with no cloud on the horizon; then all’s good. This week however, you’ve decided that change is the only way forward. This is down to a desire for more sweeping life changes. You’re preparing the ground for future success; therefore coming across as more confidently.

LEO - Five of Wands

Wands are ruled by the element of fire as is LEO which makes for a sensitive and combustible week. This is however, a healing time as you finally get to grips with clearing the emotional baggage that's recently cramped your style. By all means clear the air but use humour not a sledgehammer approach to get your point across.

VIRGO - Justice

A week to do a number of things that hopefully brings a sense of balance and perspective to life. However, you’re in the mood to settle old scores and are heartily fed up with those who ignore warnings not to cross your line of sand. Review lifestyle choices; is it time to look into better health, diet and fitness regimes?

LIBRA - Six of Cups

Close friendships and relationships will mean so much to you this week and you'll have a greater understanding of why the ones you love are in your life. Single Libra’s could even meet and be attracted to someone who's not normally their type and may have the curious feeling that they’ve met them before. It's feels very Karmic!

SCORPIO - Four of Cups

You’d be right to be cautious over committing to what looks like a wonderful opportunity this week. The indications are that a brighter prospect is heading your way and by jumping into something through desperation will only lead to later regrets and a sense of having missed out. Don’t be so anxious; be discerning and have more faith.

SAGITTARIUS – Knight of Wands

Take opportunities to travel; especially for career or to further your education. The people you meet and what you will learn could end up having a big impact on your future. Creative Sagittarians do especially well this week as others are more than willing to back your bright ideas. New business opportunities will also flourish, and colleagues have your back.

CAPRICORN - Three of Pentacles

Ambitious Capricorns need to take a close look at exciting business; especially if it means going into partnership with one or more people. Although there is definitely money to be made, make sure you read the small print before signing any legally binding documents. Also, make sure you're able to commit the time and finances to make new ventures succeed.

AQUARIUS - Seven of cups

Expect the unexpected this week Aquarius - in a positive way. This is a fortuitous time when new opportunities are being presented almost on a daily basis. You must however, press ahead with ongoing projects if you are to reap the success you’re aiming for. With so much opportunity coming your way, it’s hard to decide what to do first!

PISCES – Temperance

Keep a clear head regarding business matters. It's good to have a dream, but you are still in the planning stage and more patience is required before you roll out the next phase of a venture. Be assured you are on the right track; and if you believe in angels, there are a few around in human form this week.

La Bailarina Baye Home grown talent; Carly talks to the youngest member of Ibiza’s dance troupe España’s got talent finalists, who also becomes our youngest interviewee to boot. Carly Sorensen As many of our regular readers and residents will already know, a team of 16 girls from Davinia Van Praag Dance Academy, based in Ibiza town, made their way to the finals of Spain's Got Talent this year. Their incredible tap and singing routines captured the hearts of the nation, and saw them finishing 5th out of 14 acts and receiving an invitation to perform as part of the Christmas Special. I recently spoke to the team’s youngest member, eight year old Baye Willow Harrington-Smyth, about the experience of appearing on Spain's biggest talent show. As someone who has appeared on National TV several times at such a young age, you might imagine Baye to be a little precocious or arrogant, but in reality she's far from it. Chatting to her was a pleasure as, despite her obvious talent, she is grounded, modest, charming and

friendly. Here's what she had to say. C: So, Baye, tell me, what was it like going on Spain's Got Talent? B: Erm, emotional. C: Emotional? Was it a lot of hard work? B: Yeah. C: How many hours do you think you put in? B: We put in like, 10 or more. C: A week? B: Well, we only had 3 days. We made it in 1 day and the other 2 days were to clean the dance. We were there all day, all 3 days. C: Wow, so you did 9 or 10 hours a day once you were there? B: Yeah. C: Oh my goodness! So what do you think was the best bit about doing Spain's Got Talent?

B: I think the best bit was to have fun. C: That's good! And did you have fun? B: Yes, lots! C: You looked like you did. Which of the routines was your favourite? B: My favourite was the one in the green dresses. C: The 'We're in the Money' one? (This was the dance which won them a place in the final and saw Baye opening the routine with a solo song and dance bit) B: Yes. C: You were brilliant in that too; you were the first one on stage weren't you? B: (shy giggle) Thanks, yes. C: And what did you think of the judges? B: Some of them were, ermmm...they were all good. C: (sensing she's being polite) Really? All of them? B: Yeah. C: I thought the guy with the glasses was a bit mean... B: Well, sometimes... C: But I guess that's his 'character' isn't it? A bit like Simon Cowell on the British one. B: (laughs) Yes, exactly. C: You also got invited back to film the Christmas Special didn't you? Can you tell me anything about that? B: No, it's top secret! C: OK. So how did you get on to the Spain's Got Talent show? B: Well, we've been doing the We're In The Money dance for championships and then they had first done a dance on the show to Dear Future Husband but for the semi-finals they needed a second routine and an extra person so they chose We're In The Money and that included me. C: Ahhh, so you weren't in the team initially then you joined as the youngest person, right? B: Yes. C: How was it to be the youngest there? B: (big smile) Good. C: I bet your Mum and Dad were really proud, weren't they?

TELEVISION, SATELLITE & INTERNET SERVICES

H

owever much we may aspire to ‘live the dream’ under the Mediterranean sun, there are a few things from our native land that are commonly missed among the British & Irish community in Ibiza.

Internet Not so long ago, Ibiza had universally poor internet service, which in some areas offered little more than dial up modem connection speeds. Things are changing, and those parts of the Island covered by Fibre Optic enjoy

300mb speeds that exceed those back in Blighty—but there are still many areas of Ibiza that have very patchy service at best. Satellite and 4g internet reaches the parts fixed connections cannot, and though other services are available, that offered by Fusion has the added advantage of operating through a UK VPN, giving access to all UK location reliant services without any additional software or connection gizmos.

Television Our refusal to give up sports & soaps has meant UK Satellite TV has been available in Spain for many years, however all of Satellite Solutions, A.H. Satellite and Fusion, also offer a range of alternatives including IPTV running through your internet connection, and multi channel boxes that take your TV beyond our native shores to global services with the sports fan’s reassurance of ‘if it’s on, you can get it’.

B: (smiles again) Yeah. C: How did your dance teacher get you all onto the show in the first place? Did she have to send in videos or anything? B: They just chose us. With the dance schools they look at dance schools from all over and choose one from each place. They chose ours for Ibiza. The dance schools they choose, but if you are a person who thinks they have talent you have to go in to them. C: Oh, so they contacted your dance school to offer them a place? (Baye nods) Wow, they must have a really good reputation. B: Yeah. C: So, what's next? Have you got anything else planned? B: Yes, we've got the championships again on the 22nd of June C: You did some championships recently didn't you? The Spanish championships in Madrid? B: Yes, well, in Burgos, but that's near Madrid. C: How did you get on? B: Good! We won 10 medals and we did 12 dances. 6 gold, 2 bronze and 2 silvers. C: That's amazing! So, in the future, is dance something you want to do as a career? B: I don't know, it's just something I like to do for fun at the moment. C: How many hours a week do you dance? B: I dance Monday, Wednesday, Friday after school for a couple hours and again every Saturday and sometimes Sunday. C: Wow! At least 8 hours a week then! B: Yeah. C: And is it even more when you've got a competition or a show? B: When we've got a competition or a show, we stay all day; from like 9 o’clock to 5 o’clock. But I love it. C: What advice would you give to anyone reading this who wants to go on to Spain's Got Talent, like you did? B: Do it, follow your dreams! C: I love that. Follow your dreams, everyone! (Baye laughs) Thank-you so much Baye. B: Thanks. (another little giggle)

Balearic Cup 2018 Ibiza vs Menorca 11/05/18 : 35 overs per side : Ibiza 194/6 beat Menorca 166 all out by 28 runs Ibiza were asked to bat by Menorca captain Simon Cotton and moved cautiously to 41/2 off 10 overs in the face of accurate bowling. By then, experienced batsmen Andy Holmes (58) and Johnno Gordon (51) were together and they put on exactly 100 runs. After they were out, the hosts also lost their skipper Sam Gooda, and had scored 158/5 off 30 overs, knowing that they would need to set Menorca’s strong batting line up a target of at least 200. Jim Harvey then struck several welcome boundaries in his 32 not out to move the final score to 194/6, a defendable target. Menorca’s stand out bowler was newcomer Julian Hagger with 4/27, supported by James Davies and Simon Cotton with one wicket each. Menorca then batted and faced consistent pace bowling from Ibiza openers Paul Cruttwell (1/23) and Jim Harvey (1/44) and alert fielding, so gradually fell behind the required run rate. Julian Hagger (27) and James Davies (20) tried to cut loose, but when they were out, several other wickets fell too, and the visitors went from a steady 48/1 in 12 overs to 82/5 off 20. Then veteran Jeff Barker retired hurt and only no 8 Nick Roussel threatened a big score before getting caught for a defiant 54. Menorca still needed 50 runs off the last 5 overs with 2 wickets remaining, and then 35 off 3, so despite a rapid 14 from Roy Sturgeon, were all out for 166, Ibiza winning a hard fought encounter by 28 runs. All the Ibiza bowers performed well, especially the emerging Jonathan Dudding with 4/14, while the openers, Mike Amos, Jeremy Parmenter and Johnno Gordon contributed one wicket

each. Notably, this year marked the 30th anniversary of the long term rivalry with Menorca, so Ibiza made home advantage count with an impressive team performance, not having beaten the visitors since 2015.

IBZ Renegades, in this historical derby featuring 2 teams mainly from Ibiza for the first time in the 30 years of the Balearic cup. The Renegades exerted immediate pressure by removing Ibiza captain Sam Gooda, but then Tim Stacey and Andy Holmes combined in an impressive and composed partnership of 182 runs, which effectively blunted the Renegades’ bowling attack. Tim Stacey scored his maiden half century for Ibiza with 72, and Andy Holmes survived 2 chances to anchor the innings and score an unbeaten 135. Chris Prentice also chipped in with a rapid 24 and Ibiza were able to post a daunting 251/3 off their 35 overs. The Renegades bowlers worked hard, but could not slow the flow of runs, and only Paddy Slater (2/37) and Johnny Leighton, with 1 wicket, managed a return for their efforts. The Renegades then batted and Adam Johnston, fresh from just missing out on a century the day before, struck several trademark boundaries, before getting caught in the deep for 30. However, the Ibiza bowlers applied constant pressure and wickets continued to fall, with only Bob “the Vicar” (11 not out) and Charles Bromley (13) reaching double figures, the Renegades slumping to 85 all out in 24 overs. Ibiza’s bowlers Paul Cruttwell (4/13) and Jim Harvey (1/29) made it hard to score, and this was continued by off spinner Mike Amos (1/14) and returning veteran Robin Parmenter (4/21), allowing Ibiza to close out a comprehensive win by 166 runs. Ibiza had finally won the 2 matches required to earn the Balearic cup on home turf, with their 3 previous tournament victories coming in Menorca only!

IBZ Renegades vs Menorca 12/05/18 : 35 overs per side : Menorca 205/2 (Tiger Tysoe 64, Julian Hagger 41, Nick Roussel 49*,James Davies 25*) beat IBZ Renegades 203/2 (Adam Johnston 99*, Bob Short 80,) by 8 wickets. Today’s game proved why a team usually needs to score well over 200 to beat Menorca. Despite a wonderful partnership of 143 runs between Adam Johnston and the evergreen Bob “the Vicar” Short, a target of 203 was not enough and Menorca paced their chase perfectly, all their top batsmen getting runs and reaching 205/2 in the 33rd over. N.B. IBZ Renegades replaced Mallorca, who were unable to raise a full team, and were formed by charismatic ex Chairman and Skipper Martin Makepeace with past and present Ibiza players (including batting stalwarts Adam Johnston, Bob the “Vicar” Short, Sam Feasey and Kiwi Jolyon Swinburne) plus Wes Walker, Mallorca’s Saffer all rounder.

All to Play For The third day’s match between Ibiza and the Renegades would decide whether the 30th Balearic cup would be shared between the islands (as in 2015) or won by Ibiza CC, so there was all to play for, bragging rights for the new team or winning the cup for the current one at home!

Ibiza vs IBZ Renegades 13/05/18 : 35 overs per side : Ibiza 251/3 beat IBZ Renegades 85 all out by 166 runs Ibiza were asked to bat first by Martin Makepeace, skipper of the

Job Well Done Sincere thanks are extended to Menorca Captain Simon Cotton and his friendly team, umpire and supporters, Martin Makepeace for organizing and captaining the IBZ Renegades team, Lyn Carpenter, Debbie Lanthier and Sarah Parmenter for making the players’ lunches for 3 days, all the umpires, not forgetting a concentrated Paul Partridge who completed 2 days, and last but not least, Disco Dave Reynolds for scoring all 3 days. Finally, congratulations to Sam Gooda and team for this win!

Amanda O’Riordan

Welcome to this week’s fashion instalment of Amanda Zips It Up. Firstly, thanks to Danielle Windsor at House Of Windsor for the beautiful stars earrings. Very me. Now, I was going to make a feature of this, but I feel that everyone in existence will be overloaded with Royal Wedding info. There’s no escaping it this side of Europe and although I have chosen to ‘escape’ to Mallorca for the weekend, I can almost guarantee the appearance of ‘flag-wavers’ there too. Whether or not you’re a flag waver, you can’t fail to be ‘sort’ of interested in Meghan Markle and her new sparky input into the somewhat dull Royal family. A beautiful, Feminist, mixed race, Hollywood actress. She certainly isn’t some aristocrat’s daughter whose role is to be seen and not heard. As far as fashion goes, she is rocking every British label and knocking Kate Middleton out of the park. I know that Megan will feature in Zips It Up in the future. I can’t say that about Kate, I’m afraid.

Swimwear By Gemma Collins

What has got me excited is this amazing Limited Edition collection of very British Union Jack handbags by Louis Vuitton, called 'The Royal Wedding Collection'. I'd much rather carry one of these than a flag, that's for sure. I’ll say it once and once only, Congratulations Harry & Meg. Onto this week’s round up and we check out who is behind Kate Moss’ infamous rock chick skinny scarves and who’ll be stocking them right here very soon. Read Amanda’s fashion blog http://amandazipsitup.com/

The Rockins Skinny Scarf

Tim Rockins is an artist and musician who’s worked with Gorillaz. Jess Morris is a PR maven at Vivienne Westwood and Agent Provocateur. The pair shares a love of vintage fashion, and collectively produced a batch of twentiesinspired bias-cut silk scarves as Christmas gifts for a handful of pals. It just so happens that among those pals was my style icon Kate Moss, her then husband Jamie Hince, and rock star Bobby Gillespie. We’ve all witnessed their skinny scarf look, perfectly embellishing the rock chick / star image. Last year, after demand exploded, the duo launched Rockins. Their timing could scarcely have been better: long, lean scarves have come back in a big way. Morris and Rockins count icons like Marc Bolan and Syd Barrett amongst their influences. Blending exquisitely crafted silk skinny scarves with edgy and beautiful designs, the brand quickly amassed a loyal following and press attention. Amongst others, you’ll see them draped around the necks of Keith Richards, Harry Styles and any wannabe rock-star. And guess who’s stocking them in her boutique this summer? My very own rock-chick pal Nicole IvisonHatch at her store Left Bank Six. Look out for a selection of prints and my favourites, the leopard print and stars. Contact Nicole for your orders and wear yours all summer long.

Due to popular demand Gemma Collins is collaborating once again with Boohoo.com to release a swim and beachwear collection. GC’s first collab with Boohoo, GC x Boohoo.com, proved to be a sell-out. As the pin-up for curvy girls, it’s no surprise she’s created a line of size-inclusive beach and swimwear, just in time for summer. The collection will be available from 23 May and includes a selection of slogan swimsuits, glamorous maxi kaftans and relaxed knot tie shirts, aiming to ‘take you from pool to party’. In true Gemma Collins style, the campaign was photographed in Essex-on-Med, i.e. Marbella, where Gemma was spotted looking fabulous in a red swimsuit, giving Pamela Anderson a run for her money. Gemma comments: ‘What I love most about Boohoo is that they go up to a size 24, they are always on trend – it fits amazing and makes you feel amazing!’

On the subject of swimwear, I thought this was taking the royal wedding a little too far with these Harry & Meg swimsuits. Harry’s ginger beard is in the wrong place, obviously. Plus, we all know Millennials love Avocados and Rainbows. Their instagram feeds are full of them. Now Generation Z can take them to the beach with these ridiculous towels. Look out Marbs, Ibiza and Magaluf… it’s going to be an insane summer.
