Matutes Calls for 5 Years Prison For Policeman Accused of Stealing 2.7€ Million From Company HQ 1€ Million Of Loot Still Unaccounted For. Matutes Wants Wife of One of The Accused Prosecuted Too. Both the public prosecutor and private prosecutor ask for 5 years for the detained policeman The other policeman and his wife are accused of ‘covering up’ robbery The indictment of the great Grupo Matutes robbery on the 26th October 2013 in which 2,767,000€ was stolen from inside a safe, differs only from that of the Prosecutors office of Ibiza in which the wife of one of the detained national police-

men are accused of assisting. Like the Public Prosecutor's Office, Grupo Matutes is seeking a five-year prison term for former policeman Rafael Rodríguez, expelled from the force for working undercover as a security guard at the holding's headquarters. Both the Office of the Public Prosecutor and the Grupo de Empresas Matutes consider that Rodríguez was the sole perpetrator of the robbery. Agents of the National police responsible for the investigation have recovered 1,772,000€ from the amount stolen, leaving 995,000€ missing. Both private and public prosecutors claim the other National police officer, who was initially arrested for robbery, Jose Joaquin Fernandez, known as JJ, covered up the crime, and

request for him 21 months in prison. Unlike the Prosecutors Office, Grupo Matutes also accuses the partner of JJ, Laura HT, for covering up the robbery, for which a year in prison is requested. Another difference between the two allegations is that while the prosecution does not require JJ and his partner to pay any compensation, the Private Prosecution requests that the two agents and the partner of one of them, compensate Grupo Matutes in solidarity with 995,000€ i.e. the amount remaining to be recovered. Both offices formulate their indictments based on the same facts. That the sole author of the robbery was Rodríguez, that is, no one else participated in the planning or execution of the robbery.

News Ownership & Financial

Despite being officially barred from operating any claims management services, at least two of the owner’s other claims companies are still up and open on the web. During an audit, CMR identified potential systematic failings in

Allsure Ltd’s sales scripts and call recordings. Following an investigation in February, Allsure Ltd was found to have breached the conduct rules when making marketing calls to consumers for holiday sickness claims by: Making false or unsubstantiat-

ed claims and misleading statements about the amounts due to consumers Trying to coach consumers in providing the answers needed to meet the criteria for making a claim

Holiday Sickness Claims Company Allsure Stripped of its Licence A firm responsible for pressuring people into making holiday-sickness claims has had it's licence stripped by the Claims Management Regulator. Intelligence gathered by the Claims Management Regulator (CMR) officers revealed that Lancashire based Allsure Ltd had encouraged holiday-goers to fabricate or embellish symptoms of gastric illness to get compensation. Further evidence showed the firm had used deceptive sales scripts – exaggerating expected pay-outs

to entice consumers. This conduct has led to the firm’s licence being cancelled. This means that it can no longer offer regulated claims management services to new or existing clients. Kevin Rousell, Head of the Claims Management Regulator said: We will take firm action against claims businesses which engage in serious misconduct. Seeking to encourage false claims will not be tolerated.

Allsure Ltd is based in Preston, Lancashire and has been operating in the personal injury claims sector since 22 April 2014. They can appeal the cancellation decision within 28 days. The Owner/Director of Allsure Is listed as Owner/Director of several other claims firms, leasing and property companies etc. The last filed accounts show a business that is maintained just on the wrong side of the Black. The Balancer sheet bottom line showing a value of negative £9,500. Across his various business interests his overall assets come to £193,000 at the year end 2016.

CMR, based at the Ministry of Justice, regulates companies that offer to help people claim compensation for issues such as personal injury and mis-sold financial products. The action taken against Allsure Ltd is the latest in a series of moves by government to crackdown on fake sickness claims, following concerns from the travel industry of a surge in insurance claims for gastric illnesses like food poisoning being brought by British holidaymakers. In July ministers stepped in to reduce cash incentives in bringing spurious claims against package holiday tour operators. Under these proposals tour operators would pay a prescribed sum depending on the value of the claim, making the cost of defending a claim predictable.

Sant Antoni’s special police unit ENEV arrests 35 people Bit of a catch up story here. These numbers were released a few weeks ago. We didn’t have time for them when they were issued. We all complain a lot about inefficient handling of criminality in the area for which ENEV are responsible. It seems only correct that we publish their performance reports to hear their view on Policing the area.

The Special Summer Night Team (ENEV) has filed 236 traffic reports, 106 against ‘ticket sellers’ and 92 for Street vending, according to data collected until the 20th of July.

The Special Summer Night Team (ENEV) of Sant Antoni’s Local Police has arrested 35 people in the ‘Passeig de ses Fonts’, the ‘Passeig de s'Arenal’ and West End, the three most conflictive areas of the town and where its intervention was constrained from the 1st of May to the 20th of July. In addition, in its almost three months of operation, it has opened 16 proceedings for crimes against public health, nine for property offenses and 12 for other crimes, according to the city of Sant Antoni. The three infractions of the municipal ordinances most denounced by the ENEV, consisting of two officers, seven local

policemen and a canine agent, are due to traffic, dynamic advertising and street vending. Specifically, in May, June and the first three weeks of July this night police team fined 236 drivers. In addition, a total of 106 'word of mouth', in other words, ticket sellers, have been sanctioned in this period. Although police officers from this specialized unit explained that only a minority of West End locals use 'hooks', i.e. workers whose job is to attract tourists to consume in their establishment, this illegal activity is the one that gathers the highest number of complaints .

Drug Sales

Through this type of interventions emerge other offenses such as drug sales, like the one carried out in the early morning hours of the 4th. During a patrol on Santa Agnes Street in the West End, the police caught a Briton who was approaching tourists so that they entered the bar for which he worked and after his identification and subsequent registration they found that he had a total of 14 pills of ecstasy and two bags with single doses of cocaine, for which he was arrested. Street vending is the most common offense. The night crew of the Local Police has reported 92 street vendors. In addi-

tion, ENEV officials noted that several times nitrous oxide ampoules are seized, better known as 'laugh gas', which tourists buy between three and five euros in order to mix it with other drugs and multiply their effect.

Coexistence Ordinance

The number of complaints for breaching the Coexistence Ordinance (which prohibits the so called ‘botellón’, i.e. drinking on the street, and forces the venues where alcoholic drinks are consumed or sold to prevent their clients from taking them to the street, except on the terraces) is 94. Regarding infractions of the municipal schedule ordinance, the City Hall reported that ENEV police inspected 11 establishments and only filed three complaints until the 20th of July: two in May, one in June and none during this month. Finally, this night team has reported 223 calls and notices answered and has identified 1,151 people. Among the functions of this police unit, which will patrol the three most problematic areas of Sant Antoni until the 30th of September, are included actions for the citizen security prevention and services agreed with other security forces.

Trasmediterranea Extend Gandía-Ibiza Ferry Route Trasmediterranea extends their high-speed GandíaIbiza connection until the 1st October, given the good reception of the new line. This route, which began operating during Easter and resumed in June, will continue with its initial programming, which was scheduled to end on the 10th September, and runs until October maintaining the same daily frequencies. "The forecast of the month of September, as far as national tourism is concerned, is very positive, and to that, is the added motivation to enjoy less saturated tourist areas. Since its inauguration last April, the GandíaIbiza line has exceeded expectations and has had an excellent acceptance. Due to the success and the demand, both on the part of professionals within the tourist sector and

tourists alike, Trasmediterranea extends the service until the 1st of October ", explained Miguel Pardo, Commercial Director of Trasmediterranea. The route from Gandia to Ibiza (Sant Antoni) takes place in two hours of crossing with the fast ship ‘Almudaina Dos’ and has daily connections. In addition, during the summer months, the company increased the offer with an extension to the island of Formentera during the weekends which will run until the 10th September. There are different seating options available – preferred, tourist class, and club class services with exclusive cafeteria, shop and bars and a great variety of products, including Telepizza.

Balearic Tourist Tax increases Hit The UK Press In What Could Be Seen As The Next Step Towards Our Own Determination for Self Annihilation. The news of the increase in tourist tax, commonly referred to as the Eco Tax, has made it’s way to the UK press who have reacted with predictable, but some would say fair, negativity. Most UK press carried the story, this example from the Mail is typical.

By Gerard Couzens For The Mailonline Visitors to the Balearic Islands, including Majorca and Ibiza, will be charged twice as much tourist tax next year. The average fee will jump to three euros (£2.75) per person for each day’s stay during high season on one of the islands, with holidaymakers at city and five-star hotels paying four euros (£3.70). Regional governors announced the anticipated rise at a press conference on Thursday, boasting they would rake in more than £90million thanks to the extra charges. The tax rise was immediately criticised, with one local newspaper describing it as 'brutal and unjustified'. Regional tourism minister, Biel Barcelo, called the rise 'justified' and said the tourist tax, introduced last summer and known popularly as the ecotasa in Spanish, had been 'well-received', insisting the money raised helped reverse the impact of millions of holidaymakers on the islands. But the Business Federation of Majorca has described the decision as 'a disaster' and it has yet to see any positive results of this year's ecotax collection after it was re-introduced in the Balearics for the

first time. FEHM president, Inma Benito said: 'It's a tax levy and will have an effect on the influx and competitiveness of the destination", warning: "There may be a significant number of people who stop coming to Mallorca throughout the year and not only in high season.' The Federation says it is seriously worried about the impact the rise will have on tourist spending power as they will have less to spend on eating out, excursions or sport. In turn, this would be seriously harmful to the whole of the Balearics. As well as increases for hotel guests aged 16 or over, passengers on all cruise ships stopping in the Balearic Islands - not just those docking for 12 hours or more - will be asked to pay two euros (£1.85). The rate for rural hotels will also double to two euros (£1.85) per day during high season, with tourists at campsites and guest houses paying a new rate of one euro (92 pence). Holidaymakers staying at tourist apartments will also pay double under the new charges. The Government also plans to start charging the tourist tax to all cruise ships that stop at a port in the Balearic Islands regardless of the berth time - up to now it was only charged after 12 hours. The fee will be two euros and is estimated to generate revenue of about 1.8 million euros. The top rates will be applied from May to October, with existing lowseason rates set at half the high-season tourist tax rate also doubling. Regional governors also warned they were still studying how they could make an additional tax on hire cars work.

Friends & Family Raise £13,000 For Family of Kenny Macnicol, the 21 year old lad Killed on the Dual Carriageway last week. In last week’s edition we reported on the tragic death of a 21 year old lad who, for unknown reasons, was walking in the centre of the road just past the San Rafael tunnel. It seems he was killed outright when, after several others cars had swerved to avoid him, a car struck him with significant enough force for the medical services to not attempt any resuscitation. Though we have not recived any further information as to why he may have been walking there, the website ‘Glasgow Live’ published the following report of friends and family paying tribute and raising a support fund for his family. Over £13,000 has been raised to help the family of a 21 -year-old Glasgow man who was killed in Ibiza. Glasgow Live: Kenny Macnicol (pic right) was hit by a car at about 3am on Sunday , August 20 on the road between the party resort of San Antonio and Ibiza town. He had been on holiday with a group of pals. A JustGiv-

ing page was set up in his memory by family and friends. The original target of £10,000 has been smashed. A post on the site read: "The hole he has left in everyone's heart cannot be filled but the donations will ease pressure on the family with the sudden financial implications. Rest in peace Kenny, you will always be loved." Last week, friends paid tribute to Kenny. Thomas Swan wrote online: “Madness going on holiday eight of us and leaving with seven. Lost a best pal and a brother. RIP Kenny Macnicol.” Another mate, Ryan Brown, added: “Should never go away with the boys and come back a man down. Keep thinking it’s a bad dream and I’ll wake up. You’ll be in my heart forever mate and I’ll miss you every day brother. Love you so much.”

Sweet and Sour Iberian pork rib cooked at a low temperature with Asian touches and coleslaw.

Priceless

Kumharas Rhian King Kumharas is a special place, if you’re after a relaxed, chilled place to watch the sunset with a cocktail in your hand; this is the place for you. But there is more to Kumharas than just the sunset/There are many strings to the Kumharas bow. In the restaurant, the menu is inspired by Asia, they have a small hippy market with a few stalls dotted around the venue, the ‘sunset’ bar area, the only place to be to watch the sunset and all to the background of cool Balearic beats from the DJ or live musicians.

The Sunset Kumharas is something of a sunset mecca. For those who don’t yet know this oasis of bay-cool we offer our sympathy

and a couple of top-tips—tips so hot the Kumharas fire dancers could put on a display with them. If you want a prime sunset spot in high season, to be guaranteed a prime spot, you’ll need to be looking at least two hours before sunset. You can find out sunset for Ibiza here: https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/spain/ibiza But you know what, Kumharas isn’t really the sort of place you should be getting hung up about prime spots. If it is important to you, do it, but I’d just take my chances and make it a pleasure rather than an itinerary. Whatever you timescale, do not attempt to park there. Theoretically you can park adjacent, but it is carnage every night and with new parking restrictions coming into force it will only get worse. The front line seats are for drinks, the restaurant is at the rear. So do not book a meal for sunset hour if you want to see it. Most people eat before or after sunset. Finally, the waiters will be busy. Very busy. You may be sitting there thinking you have been ignored, but most people are drinking cocktails and it takes as long as it takes. Hopefully they will acknowledge you and then you can relax knowing your turn will come—but if you want something fast and wet—go get it from the bar. Then relax. So now you know the ropes, onto the good things.

The Restaurant The restaurant is spacious and feels uncrowded with plenty of space between tables. The staff again were very attentive and we had menus immediately and drinks orders taken. The menu is truly Asian inspired with dishes such as Thai King Prawn Salad, Thai Red/Green Curries and Ox Fillet Steak with a cold Japanese Black Pepper Sauce. We chose to share a starter .

Timbal of Sea Crab with Mango and Guacamole The Timbal tower that arrived was vibrant and full of colour/ promise. There were chunks of crab, creamy guacamole, mango pieces and topped with red lumpfish caviar. As you delved into the Timbal more flavours came alive and the chilli powder dusted on the side gave the dish a real kick.

Scallops Cambodian Style Probably the least photographic dish served to our table, but the biggest punch of flavour. The scallops were melt in the mouth tender and their flavour was not lost in the medley of string beans, baby corn and chilli.

Grilled Octopus with Tandoori Aromas and Potatoes Parmentier The octopus was soft and tender, cooked exactly how it should be and the potatoes a cross between mashed and crushed (not very technical but accurate). The tandoori smokiness balanced with the creaminess of the potatoes.

Cambodian Scallops are not the most photogenic of foods, but they are certainly among the most tasty.

Sweet and Sour Iberian pork rib cooked at a low temperature with Asian touches and coleslaw with sambal and lime vinaigrette The first thing you cannot miss is the portion size, sticky succulent ribs stacked on a bed of spicy coleslaw. The meat simply fell off the bone and you could see the difference the low temperature cooking method had made. The ribs were juicy and the sambal on the coleslaw was just enough to give the dish some heat.

Coconut Panna Cotta with mango and passionfruit sauce The coconut panna cotta was smooth and not too sweet, but with the mango and passionfruit sauce it was taken to another level. A deliciously light and refreshing end to the meal.

Pink Pepper White Chocolate Mousse with whipped cream, raspberry coulis and chocolate sauce We planned to share the desserts and our waiter actually said they recommend this one to share, because it is enormous. A mountain of whipped cream with chocolate sauce covered the most delicate and light white chocolate mousse, beyond which the raspberry coulis gave an acidic kick which complimented the dessert perfectly. Even the surprise of little biscuit pieces added texture to the dish.

The Entertainment Every day is something different in Kumharas. Throughout September their live entertainment continues (the only caveat to this, is the weather, of which we have no control)

Sun – DJ Eva Pacifico Mon – Tatooine Sunsets with José María Ramón Tues – Paco Fernandez Band, playing after sunset Weds – DJ José Rives & The Ancient Fire Spirit Thurs – Ibiza Sonica Radio Sunset Sessions Fri – Live music from Guest DJ’s/Musicians Sat – Live music from Guest DJ’s/ Musicians Throughout dinner, and then watching the sun set in front of us, we were treated to Balearic beats from DJ José Rives. Calm, almost soothing sounds that didn’t burst your eardrums. At Kumharas, it is simply you, the view, and great entertainment with a drink in your hand. News Ibiza Battles Mosquitoes

Ibiza Town’s Pollution Recording Equipment Has Exceeded Permissible Pollution Levels for 75 Days This Year Already. Many Point The Finger At The Power Station Nearby

Balearic Islands Exceeds Annual Pollution Levels Only Half Way Through Summer The government continues to ‘elaborate’ on the Air Quality Improvement Plans that reduce traffic emissions and those of thermal power plants, while continuing with projects that aggravate it. The Friends of The Earth and Ecologists in Action have been able to verify that 12 of the 18 atmospheric pollution control stations in the Balearics have already exceeded the air target value for the protection of health, established by Spanish law for the ozone, during the years 2015-2017. The target value is set to 120 micrograms of ozone per cubic meter of air, measured in periods of 8

hours, and it should not exceed more than 25 days a year, as an average of three consecutive years. For Ibiza, the stations of Dalt Vila and Ca'n Misses in Ibiza exceed the legal limit for over 75 days of the year. There has already been concern this year at the health implications arising from the noxious smell coming from the power station in Ibiza town, which was met with a ‘no concern’ attitude. The Government of the Balearic Islands has not only built up a decade in delaying the preparation of the required air quality improvement plans in the affected areas,

with measures such as reducing traffic – both land and maritime and the emissions from power stations but they don't even recognise the problem, according to the statements made by the DirectorGeneral for energy and climate change, who pointed out that "the quality of the air in the Balearic Islands is excellent". Friends of the Earth and Ecologists In Action also lament at the lack of information being given to the population who are sensitive to air pollution. Those at risk include children, the elderly, pregnant women or those with respiratory/ cardiovascular problems.

A chemical insecticide is now being sprayed twice a week around Ses Feixes, Jesus and the Santa Eulalia river to combat the adult mosquito population which has thrived thanks to the heavy rain that fell in August. The rain has accelerated the life cycle of the mosquito and they have reached their adult state in less time, causing major discomfort for all those tasty enough to be bitten. As ses Salines is a natural protected park, insecticides are not used and therefore there is nothing further they can do to curb the population in that area.

Car Recovered After 8 Metre Fall A vehicle which left the road and fell around 8 metres on the road to hotel Xamena in San Miquel at around 9pm on Thursday required a rescue team with a crane to remove the stricken vehicle. The recovery took around three hours as they tried not to damage the high end Mercedes. None of the occupants were hurt.

Commercial Housing Conversions Under Inspection The

neighbourhood

is

again under inspection as homes are appearing

in

vacant

commercial premises. In the street Francesc Escanellas more of these ‘mini apartments’ are appearing and the City Council have opened a file to investigate the change of activity and conversions into dwellings.

"There are areas in this neighbourhood where it is more difficult to rent the commercial premises to set up a business, than to turn them into a place to live and get some revenue," explains the president of the neighbourhood association, José Juan Bonet. The association want to make clear that they understand the difficult rental situation in Ibiza and

they are sympathetic with the families who live in these improvised places. "People are not to blame for not being able to find decent housing at a reasonable price, but this creates unrest in the coexistence and security problems, because they build kitchens without any controls or permits," he warns. "This happens in our

neighbourhood because there are still commercial premises with an economic price of 400-500€, not like the centre of Ibiza, where an apartment exceeds 1,000€." In the absence of new commercial activity, particularly in the areas where there is no tourist footfall, these are improvised as apartments to make some profit.

Ibiza Town Hall has already ordered the eviction of around 15 people including children, in commercial premises converted into apartments on Calle Galicia, also in ses Figueretes. This order, issued in the middle of June, was para-

lysed by the Palma courts due to the circumstances of "special urgency", since there were families living in a rented apartment that had no other immediate alternative accommodation.

News Translation of a recent Diario de Ibiza report.

T

he first available appointment is mid-December, if you are happy to have an afternoon appointment it seems morning appointments are far more in demand with a longer waiting list. A driver whose ITV runs out in November, explained that when she asked for an appointment, three months in advance, she was given the 5th December. Another, whose car’s ITV expired in March was given an appointment for the 1st December. There are days when, in a timely manner, spaces open and a closer appointment can be made. That is the case of a user who reported that three weeks ago he accessed the website to get an appointment and there was only availability in November he did not take it, two days later he came back into the system and at that moment an appointment appeared in late September, so he got one. It seems however, the general trend is to wait for months. The Diario de Ibiza spent more than two weeks accessing the system and the reality is that if there were appointments in the beginning of mid-November they quickly ran out, going from three to almost four months waiting to get a date for the inspection.

More than two hours of waiting The waiting list is not the only drawback to gaining an ITV, the Diario de Ibiza recently checked out the long queues of vehicles awaiting their turn at the station, which formed shortly after nine in the morning. Again nothing has changed since June. One driver, Olivia Lartigue, said that she was in the queue waiting for her turn with a delay of more than 1 hour and 20 minutes. "I had an appointment at 10, let’s see what time it is [11.20] and I still have ten cars ahead," explained Lartigue from inside her car, "very angry" with the situation. According to this user, there were only two of the four inspection lines open, hence the long wait. "After 2 hours and 20 minutes, ITV has been achieved!” she said at the end of the inspection. All this despite the fact that in June the Consell explained that measures were being taken this summer to remedy the situation, to get an appointment in less than two weeks and that in carrying out the inspection you wouldn’t be more than half an hour at the station. These measures included charges for second inspections or a new queue management system in the office, to be applied this summer, as well as more personnel and a change in the computer system, in the longer term.

ITV Has Four Month Delay The ITV testing station now has a 4 month delay despite the measures announced by the Consell in June, in which they intended to cut the waiting list, then at 3 months to just 2 weeks.

More Vehicles, Staffing Issues The island's industry minister, Marta Díaz, acknowledges that the service provided is not good. She indicates that although there is not "the seven and a half months" waiting list, that was when the progressive government team arrived at the Consell in 2015, "four months" of waiting are not adequate either. Diaz relates the situation with the increase in the number of vehicles - in 10 years it has grown 118%, going from 63,062 in 1996 to 137,464 in 2016 with the average age of cars, standing at 13.25 years, and that for some years no prior inspections have been made in the workshop, thus the first ‘failed’ inspections have increased greatly. "They must pass the ITV twice and that entails an extra workload," she says and points out that the total number of inspections carried out has grown by 18.73% between January and July 2017 compared to the same period of 2015. Diaz explains that although when they came to the government they increased the workforce of mechanics, engineers and aux-

iliaries – which did allow the waiting list to be lowered to between one to two months in 2016 – this year there have been three retirements of mechanics.

Drastic Measures Diaz has stated they could not anticipate the situation or resolve it beforehand. She has stated that four people have been employed since August. Six mechanics will join altogether, and are employed until the end of the year "due to the accumulation of inspections". Diaz hopes to have them contracted in September – three began between August 31 and September 1 – and she has even stated that if it works, the idea is to incorporate at least four of the mechanics in the structural template of 2018. "One more assistant is being hired," she adds, and says that, with this, she believes that "in October the waiting list will begin to fall and that at the end of the year it is at most a month." "This plan will be the last one we do. If it does not work we will have to look at another measure ", Diaz says.

Elite Estate Agent Savills Embroiled in Breach of Confidentiality Lawsuit. As reported in uk.businessinsider.com, in turn based on

reports in the Guardian

Illegal Party Disbanded

The party, which was held on a concrete platform on the beach linked to a hotel establishment, was shut down on Wednesday night at 10pm as it did not have the necessary permits. The initial call to Santa Eulalia police was around 8pm when neighbours alerted them to the music annoyance and a celebration ‘where many people were congregated’. Agents moved to the area to verify the information and it was apparent there was music at a high volume, they met with the person in charge of the party and asked to see the permission. The responsible party was unable to provide documentation as the party had not been recorded with the town hall, so sanctions will now be held against the establishment.

An explosive court battle between British businessman Mark Holyoake and ultra-wealthy property developers the Candy brothers has taken a new twist. Holyoake has filed for a High Court order that would force Savills, a high -end estate agent, to turn over emails, texts, and other documents relating to his fight with the Candy brothers. We first saw the filing reported by The Guardian, and have since seen documents relating to the High Court application, made at the end of July. In a witness statement, Holyoake said he is mulling a separate lawsuit against Savills for alleged breach of confidentiality, misuse of private information, and breach of contract. The case is a potential PR nightmare for Savills, according to the Guardian: "Any such lawsuit could prove embarrassing for Savills, which has a reputation for upholding high standards of discretion about the assets and financial affairs of its wealthy clientele." A new suit would centre on Savills staff allegedly passing 0n information about Mark Holyoake — their client — and the value of his home in Ibiza to Nick and Christian Candy. Holyoake has separately claimed that the Candys were trying to extort money out of him at the time. His statement said: "[At] the very least, I am concerned that the evidence ... shows that Savills breached its legal obligations to me, and there is good evidence to suggest that they were also involved in the conspiratorial actions of the Candy Brothers." In his earlier suit, Holyoake accused the Candy brothers of alleged blackmail, extortion, and intimidation to squeeze out a £37 million payout on a £12 million loan from Christian Candy. You can read more about the £132 million lawsuit here. The new fight would focus on whether Savills allegedly handing over

information about Holyoake made him more vulnerable to alleged financial pressure from the Candy brothers. In his witness statement, Holyoake pointed to evidence that emerged during the Candy brothers trial showing the pair obtained the confidential valuation for his family property in Ibiza. An email from Nick Candy showed that he had lunch with Michael Sharpe-Neal, Savills' valuation director, and learned of Savills' valuation of Holyoake's property. Candy's email concluded: "I will get the valuation today and send it through." The idea was that Holyoake's Ibiza property could act as security against the £12 million loan from Christian Candy — but only if the brothers knew how much that property was worth. The brothers also gave evidence during the trial confirming that they had received the valuation. Nick Candy said: "I can’t remember whether I was offered it by Savills or whether I asked for it. But either way, I acknowledge it was wrong." Christian Candy also acknowledged at the trial that the valuation was a confidential document which he should never have seen. Holyoake, in his witness statement, said the "passing over of information" to the Candy brothers represented a security risk. He said: "In 2012, during the course of my dealings with the Candy brothers, I resorted to having to engage armed close protection officers to protect my children and my (then) pregnant wife." Savills' valuation documents included a floorplan and photographs, Holyoake said. Holyoake wants Savills to hand over any correspondence relating to himself, his Ibiza property, and the building at the heart of his dispute with the Candy brothers — Grosvenor Gardens House. These documents, he said, could reveal "collusion" between the estate agent and the Candy brothers. According to Holyoake's witness statement, Savills refused to hand over emails and other documents voluntarily. A Savills spokeswoman said: "We don't comment on ongoing legal matters."

Callum Beattie Nick Gibbs In a media world full to bursting of over-hyped and anonymous PR, it is always very refreshing to come across something with a little more passion. I have talked to Mike several times at various venues and he speaks so enthusiastically of a young singer/songwriter that it is kind of infectious. I will leave it at first names as though I expect some people will be able to guess, he is more the kind of guy who prefers to keep out of the limelight. OK, Mike, so tell me all about Callum.

“H Playing For Change 2017

17th September,12noon until Midnight Cala Llonga

This year is the 7th annual Playing For Change Day – the day when thousands of musicians, artists and volunteers freely give their time to organise events across the world and raise funds for the Playing For Change Foundation to provide music education for underprivileged children around the world. Playing For Change Day Ibiza, working with Viva Cala Llonga (a local non-profit organisation), is hosting Ibiza’s 3rd Playing For Change Day festival on 17th September mid-day to mid-night on Cala Llonga beach and the surrounding areas. Over 35 bands will gather on 4 Stages in Cala Llonga to entertain residents & tourists of all ages. A wide variety of Entertainment for Children & Families takes place in the Play Area at the back of the beach. Food & Drink stalls surrounding the beach will offer a selection of International Food, while the Hippy Market will be running throughout the day and night. Make a note in your diary now, and next week we will bring you the full detailed line up.

e's a singer / songwriter from Edinburgh and who will be performing live in San Antonio next week. He has a strong voice, a bold personality and is a great live performer. He has a record deal with 3Beat (part of Universal). His first two singles made the BBC Radio playlist, and his popularity is set to grow. His performances, across three venues in San Antonio on three consecutive dates at the start of next week, will include a song called ’San Antonio’, written in honour of this town. This is due to be released in the UK next year. San Antonio may not the most glamorous place in Ibiza for some people, but it has figured prominently in my life and I’ve found it an interesting place to live and work. I’ve been part of Ibiza Rocks for the last twelve years as the company’s Live Events Director and, perhaps like you, I’ve built a relationship with the place and its community of short and longer term inhabitants. I used to tour manage Kaiser Chiefs and this is how I met Andy McKay and ended up here in San Antonio. A very young Callum Beattie managed to make his way backstage at one of the band's outdoor shows in Edinburgh in the Summer of 2007. He wore his work Tesco hi-vis vest to get past security (he used to put away the shopping trolleys there). The band & I found him charming, and the scenario amusing, and they all signed his vest of course.

The last concert is a European night with the German group Malstrom, the winning group of the Getxo Jazz Festival 2017, made up of Axel Zajax, Salim Javaid and Jo Beyer, which tightens once again the relationship between The Basque festival and the Ibiza Jazz Festival. At 10.30pm will be the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, considered one of the brightest stars of the Polish jazz scene, mixing tradition with contemporary sound. Baluard de Santa Llucià.

The documentary ‘Ibiza Jazz The Experience’, directed by Marco Torres will be screened at 9pm in the auditorium of Can Ventosa. The 75-minute documentary reveals the previous process through which a jazz group is created in just one af-

Nick Hodgson, the ex-drummer / principal songwriter from Kaiser Chiefs, was over in Ibiza with his wife at the Ibiza Rocks Chic concert in 2013. I had written a song called 'San Antonio’, the inspiration for which was sitting and looking at my view of San Antonio from my balcony, from where I can see the slingshot towers lit up and changing colour. I sang the hook, "San Antonio, can you hear me?” to Nick and it stuck with him. Nick writes songs with various artists. A year and a half had passed when he called me up and told me he had the 'right person’ in his studio and wanted to record the track with him there and then. He sent me the result that evening. It was great to hear the song developed and finished. Nick reminded me about the guy who had made his way backstage in Edinburgh 10 years ago, something my mind had let go of, but recalled when he mentioned it. The older Callum had earned himself a record deal and his management had asked him who he would like to work with. He told them Nick from Kaiser Chiefs, so they were reunited, and when Nick met him and heard his voice, he had known Callum was the right person for the song. All serendipitous I guess.” See what I mean? Callum’s Ibiza dates next week are below. TAURUS – Knight of Wands

You may be sat at work somewhere wishing to get away from it all this week. You will, but must first knuckle down and complete important projects. Others are relying on you so that they can get going on their stuff. To cut through the boredom, find ways to be creative and visionary even with the most mundane tasks.

GEMINI – Seven of Swords

It can be an exhausting time if you’ve got to second guess the motives of others. Yes, they may be all smiley and friendly to your face but watch they don’t run off with your clever ideas, partner or possessions. Normally, you have a wonderful sense of humour; it will be sorely tested this week. Don’t ignore nagging health concerns.

CANCER – Six of Swords

No looking back at what might have been this week, best to move forward and have few regrets. Mentally you will be relieved that you no longer have to deal with certain situations that were not of your making. Professionally you can wave goodbye to a stressful time, relax into a new set of circumstances and emotionally feel calmer.

LEO - Eight of Pentacles

There won’t seem that there are enough hours in the day this week as you battle with your work schedule. Yes, it’s great that everything is going so well financially; however it’s not leaving you much time for a personal life or for those you care the most. It will be a balancing act, but remember to count your blessings!

VIRGO – Page of Swords

You might need to stand your ground on a matter that may seem trivial to begin with, but could escalate to much more if you avoid taking decisive action. Don’t be unsure of your viewpoint, you’ve intuitively deduced what is going on and won’t be fooled by anyone’s waffling, smokescreens or mirrors. Insist they speak up plainly and truthfully!

LIBRA – Queen of Pentacles

If you’re around children you’ll be pretty full on with their demands but you’ll love it. Libra’s are caring but have a very practical side and can be highly focused when the mood suits, so get to work sorting out financial matters and any routine chores. Boring I know, so speed it up so you can enjoy the fun stuff.

SCORPIO – Nine of Cups

Romance is pretty high on your agenda this week and you’ll want to make sure that an important relationship is worth the effort. This card indicates that it is, so make sure you get priorities right. Success is assured if you’re hoping that an important result goes in your favour; you could also gain financially through the kindness of others.

SAGITTARIUS – Four of Pentacles

Don’t be rash and waste money as this card indicates you should save for a rainy day or towards a future investment. There’s no point in procrastination; so begin to lay firm financial foundations; especially if recently things have been tough. Think positive and have an up-beat attitude, this in turn will help to open you up to receive more.

CAPRICORN - The Chariot

You make good progress as you begin to see the wood from the trees in all areas of your life. Don’t fret too much over the future, just trust that the universe has a bigger and better plan for you. The Chariot also indicates moves of all kinds, so you could be packing your bags for a big new adventure!

AQUARIUS – The Lovers

You will be given the opportunity to choose between two paths in life and only you know what’s right for you; so keep your own counsel and don’t be over influenced by the opinions of others. For some time now you’ve wanted to make changes to your daily routine; you can now take steps towards moving closer to personal goals.

PISCES – The High Priestess

Trust your intuition this week as you encounter people who could make a huge impact on your life in the months or even years ahead. You're becoming more resourceful and independent of what others say or think; you can now stand alone but without feeling lonely. Others will be drawn to your air of mystery as you give little away.

View From The Pew Shroud Of Turin The famous linen artefact known as the Shroud of Turin is one of the great mysteries that continues to perplex scientific and historical investigations. The shroud measures 4.34 m by 1.10 m. The linen cloth depicts a complete image of both the front and back of a crucified man. Extreme lacerations are clearly seen all over the body and blood flows from writs and feet and from a wound in the right side. Is this the burial shroud of Jesus mentioned in the Holy Gospels? Intriguingly, even after extensive scientific analysis, scientists have not been able to reproduce the image. We have a plethora of mysteries connected to this image on the Shroud. In 2015 the most extensive report on the mystery of the Shroud was published: “Test

the Shroud: at the atomic and molecular levels” by Mark Antonacci. Some of the scientific mysteries of the Shroud reported by Antonacci are: 1. The body image is directionless! “For example, if an artist had painted the Shroud, modern technology could easily detect underlying brush strokes on the body images”. 2. The body image does not consist of any material! “The coloured body image fibres do not consist of any pigments, powders, dyes or materials of any kind.” 3. The body image is a negative! To the naked eye the image on the shroud has a straw yellow colour that is vague and lacks clarity. It is very difficult to even see the image. “However, when one takes a photograph of the

Shroud, highly resolved, positive image becomes apparent on the photographic negative.” 4. The body image on the shroud is three-dimensional! In 1976 physicists discovered that the body image actually contains three-dimensional information that was encoded onto the two-dimensional burial cloth! The shading on the image “correlates precisely with the subtle distances each part of his body was from the cloth. This feature was surprisingly demonstrated with computer imaging technology that displays relief or depth only when the lightness or darkness within a picture is directly correlated to its distance from the source of the encoding.” 5. The image on the Shroud resides only on the top most fibres of the cloth’s threads!

“By analogy, if a person’s arm was a thread, the body image would lie only on the hairs on his arm.” Modern science does not yet have the knowledge or the technology to reproduce the image! It is inconceivable that the Shroud is a medieval forgery. Image courtesy of Dianelos Georgoudis, Wikipedia

Shebizan Amanda O’Riordan Welcome to this week’s Zips It Up and I can regretfully announce that Summer is OVER. Welcome to Autumn term. I’m back home in London, and after a beautiful bank holiday weekend, the heavens have well and truly opened. So it’s back to business as usual. I’ve gone from 30 degrees to 12 in the space of two days. Brrrr. But it’s not all negative at this time of the year because A, The kids go back to school, B, The X Factor starts and C, Fashion Weeks begin. Plus, it’s fashion awards season too. More about that in this issue, but on the subject of fashion and awards, did anyone watch the MTV VMA Awards last weekend? No, me neither, but I did check out the red carpet for the usual fashion hits and misses. Nobody did well, it’s fair to say so my winners for ‘worst dressed’ of 2017 go to Calvin Harris and Nicky Manage. Calvin looks like a cross between Noel Edmonds and a 70s Nerd. Nicki looked fabulous, except for chronic camel toe, made obvious by squeezing everything into this pink latex number. Always a giggle though. And with that, this time round we check out who is the Model of The Decade, Topshop’s collab with Skinnydip and how Grot burgers and Muccy D’s suddenly became very fashionable. Read Amanda’s fashion blog http://amandazipsitup.com/

Model Of The Decade

Love her or hate her (and Sister Kim), Kendall Jenner is about to receive the highest accolade given to models anywhere. The 21-year-old model is to pick up the award of Fashion Icon Of The Decade during next month's New York Fashion Week. Kendall, who boasts more than 83 million followers on her Instagram account, will be adorned with the illustrious honour on September 8th at the Four Seasons Hotel NYC. I never got the whole ‘Kardashian’ thing, kind of missing that boat, but in my line of work, Kendall is without question up there with the best of the models on the world runway. Following the announcement, the 5ft10 catwalk star, whose parents are Caitlyn and Kris Jenner, I saw some troll-type tweets saying "Fashion Icon Of The decade" .... Tragic.' A bit unfair. Believe it or not, Kendall has been a professional model since 2009, when she was just 11 years old – a decent career in the world of fashion. Beating the Hadid sisters and most of the Victoria Secrets angels too.

She looks nothing like her siblings and although she’s had a little help in the nose department, I feel she deserves to be model of the decade. Moody always wins, plus she dated Harry Styles. From Chanel to Mango, an all round winner.

Bling Mac

McDonald’s has unveiled its new designer burger boxes. I never thought I’d be typing those words. But if a fashion designer was to take on a MacDonalds project – guess who it would be? The clue is in the name. The fast food chain has teamed up with fashion designer and Britain's Next Top Model judge Julien Macdonald OBE, whose red carpet gowns have been worn by A-list celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian. The premium Signature Collection burgers come in three flavours – The Classic, The BBQ and The Spicy - with the box designed by Julien Macdonald. He crafted the luxury boxes, which will be available in over 900 McDonald’s restaurants across the UK by the end of the year, following a successful trial. The recipe twist? They all include ‘fancy’ ingredients and 20mm thick beef patties. The bling containers are printed with Julien's trademark crystal detailing and embellishment, along with the restaurant's iconic golden arches. He unveiled his "sumptuous" creation at the McDonald’s flagship restaurant in London's

Page 11

Leicester Square. One special bejewelled box, hand-crafted by Julien himself, will be auctioned to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). Emily Somers, vice president of marketing at McDonald’s, commented: “This is our first ever UK packaging collaboration, it’s a brave and exciting move and it’s like nothing we’ve ever done before. If you're desperate to get your hands on one of the limited boxes, sign up to one of a series of McDonald’s showcase events around the UK. This is the ONLY time I will be willing to eat MacDonalds, I suspect.

Topshop & Skinnydip’s Laundry Bag

Topshop is selling a Skinny Dip tote handbag, which looks exactly like a laundry holdall or laundrette sack, and no one’s sure what to make of it. The bag costs an astonishing £26 and has divided opinion amongst fashion fans. The bag, which has a cartoon lobster on the front, has proven popular online - where it's currently out of stock. I love Skinny Dip but this dubious item, which has the words 'That Fish Cray' written on it, is a completely batty idea. I don’t get it. Apparently, these bags are everywhere in the UK. Luckily I’ve been in the Balearics all summer and missed the trend. Go to Poundland and get a tote for £1, in different colours and sizes too, if you really must. People say the Skinny Dip creation is "FABULOUS", "amazing" and "super cute!" I say, “a bag for dirty washing”.

Post from the swimmers on 1st September Tough day in the water for our amazing team today ... They managed 20.01km in 6h23, but the challenge of a lot of poisoinous jelly fish and a hectic 17 knot wind, causing too much chop, ended the swim earlier than plan. A lot of catching up to do tomorrow, but everyone up for the challenge and of course, swimming for the amazing Guild Cottage. Keep going guys, you are doing us so proud!

‘Egyptian Time Travellers’ The Movie

When an ambitious seven year old girl named Maya Wilson studied Ancient Egypt at school, she was so taken by the era and themes that she came up with the idea of making a film based around the characters she had learnt about. She sought out the help of Todd Graft, a Visual Artist and Ibiza resident with a green screen in his home studio, to make her vision a reality. After a day filming and months of editing, voice over work and more, the film has finally come to fruition. 'Egyptian Time Travellers' is a short film (30 mins); a sci-fi adventure about two girls who end up in Ancient Egypt and get … well we won’t reveal the plot obviously. Don’t want to spoil it for you. The cast of the film is Maya Wilson, Summer Hedley, Baye Willow Smyth Harrington, Ava Chalmers, Esme Common and Amelie Common. This is a non-budget film, and they now have the support of Cine Regio; a beautiful 70’s theatre cinema with velvet décor, hosting the latest Digital Dolby sound and Cinemascope; to release this local movie. 'Egyptian Time Travellers' will be premiered at Cine Regio, San Antonio, on September 9th at 12 noon. Tickets are available at Raco Verd in Sant Josep, or on the day at Cine Regio at a price of 5€ each.

Sport Jezza’s World of Sport Jeremy Parmenter So near, yet so far as the dreaded month of August draws to a close and we move in to the best 2 months of the year – September and October. Can't wait! However, the sporting world waits for no man as it gears up for the winter months ahead with summer sports gradually coming to their end. As is the case with

Tennis – Murray Withdraws From Us Open

'Fraid so, you tennis buffs and the US Open at Flushing Meadow, the final major of the year, will be all the poorer for his absence. Our Andy has withdrawn due to his continuing hip problems, and as No 2 seed, together with the withdrawals of Djokovic, Wawrinka and Nishikori, he's actually created a problem for the seeding as with him, Nadal and Federer as No 1 and No 3, have been seeded to meet in the semis which has done us fans out of a potential classic Final. Shame on you Andy! On the Women's side, shock already as Brit Johanna Konta, strongly tipped to make it to at least the semis, was knocked out on Monday in the 1st round by the World No 78. This failure was compounded by British No 2 Heather Watson also being knocked out on an adjoining court – not a good start for us Brits!

Cricket – Windies & England Go Toe To Toe At Headingley

At last, the Windies have woken up and started playing some decent cricket. Having been absolutely hammered in the 1st Test they restricted England to a 1st innings of 258 in the 2nd, despite a superb ton from Stokes and then scoring 427 with 2 brilliant tons from Hope and Brathwaite, England faced a deficit of 169 but, with consistent batting throughout, the tables were turned as the Windies today (Tuesday) faced an uphill battle of scoring 320 odd to win. Do it and they'll square the 3 Test Series with one to play, lose and England will have taken their second Series win of the summer. Who said Test cricket is boring?! Congrats tho' to England skipper Joe Root, who equaled South African de Villiers' record of 11 consecutive 50's in the 1st innings but then went on to break it with yet another 50 in the 2nd!

Cycling – Froome On His Way To A Classic Double

Having already won the Tour de France earlier this year, Brit Chris Froome is well on his way to becoming the first racer to win the classic double of TdF and Vuelta de España, as after 9 stages, the last of which he won, he leads chaser Chaves by 36 seconds in the overall classification.

Boxing – Mayweather Shows His Class

Not really my thing boxing, but I have to admire Irishman and martial arts champion Conor McGregor for even stepping in the ring with 5 weight boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, arguably the best lb for lb boxer ever, in what looked to be a bit of a gimmick. However, despite McGregor's lack of boxing experience he did put up a good show but was eventually beaten in the 10th round. Small solace then as he picked up the small matter of $100m whilst his conqueror took home treble that. Not bad for 36 minutes work but more importantly, Mayweather, having come out of retirement for this one-off fight,

‘The Money Fight’ - Mayweather comes out of retirement for one-off fight against Irishman McGregor achieved his goal of retiring with a 50-0 victory count, breaking the great Marciano's record of 49-0.

Rugby League – Hull Retain The Challenge Cup

Congrats to Hull as they retained the Challenge Cup in an enthralling Final at Wembley, beating World Champions Wigan 18-14. Close but Hull always seemed to have an extra gear if needed, confirmed by every time the Warriors got too close, Hull scored. Congrats too to Hull's Marc Sneyd, as he was deservedly named the Lance Todd Trophy winner as man of the match.

Rugby Union – England Downed By All Blacks

Despite a first half 17-10 first half lead, World Champions England were downed in the second half, eventually losing 41-32 to the Black Ferns, as NZ Women are known, in the World Cup Final in Belfast over the w/end. On the cards really as the Red Roses have never beaten NZ in a World Cup match but all credit to Emily Scarratt's team as they played really well but lacked the individual flair that Toka Natua, NZ's flying winger, brought to the match with her stunning hat-trick. Still, not bad for the 2.6m UK fans who watched the Final on ITV, let alone the worldwide audience.

Football – Man Utd Power On With 3 Wins From 3

Yes, Jose seems to have got the right blend at last, of pace, power and guile at OT as Man Utd recorded their 3rd win from 3, scoring 10 and conceding nil, as they continued their impressive start with a 2-0 home win over Leicester. Liverpool are hard on their heels tho' as they took Arsenal apart, winning 4-0, at Anfield as the Gunners lost their 2nd consecutive match leaving Mnsr Wenger tearing his hair out. New boys Huddersfield, in 3rd, kept up their good form as they continued their unbeaten run with a scoreless draw at home to Southampton, whilst Man City and West Brom both re-

Hamilton had to show he is not losing sight of the championship title. The Ferraris and silver arrows were pretty much even all weekend with Hamilton just beating Vettel to his 68th pole position, equalling that of all-time pole record holder Michael Schumacher. The grid got away well with Hamilton just managing to keep Vettel behind him despite them running side by side at one point, Wehrlein retired his Sauber lap four – he said something was broken, on lap six the Force India boys made contact, Ocon slamming into the back of Perez, both escaped without damage. There was no Mercedes pulling away into the distance, and for most of the race he had Vettel less than 2 seconds behind him. They finished as they had started Hamilton the victor and Vettel P2. Verstappen was the first casualty of the race lap 7 when his engine failed – his sixth DNF of the year and you have to wonder when we’ll see this rising star shine again. His teammate Ricciardo on the other hand showed yet again why he has been on the podium now six times with another P3.

main unbeaten as the former beat Bournemouth 2-1 on the South coast and the latter drew 1-1 with Stoke at the Hawthorns. Champions Chelsea recorded back-to-back wins as they comfortably beat Everton 2-0 at the Bridge to lie in 6th spot as they appear to have got their mojo back, whilst Tottenham just cannot break that Wembley hoodoo as they drew 1-1 with Burnley. Elsewhere, Newcastle recorded their 1st win of the season, 3-0 over a very disjointed West Ham, now propping up the Premier, to take the pressure off manager Rafa, likewise Swansea who beat pointless Crystal Palace at the Vetch and finally, Watford drew 0-0 with Brighton at home. No Premier League football this week as the World Cup qualifiers take centre stage as England take on that massive, world-beating team from Malta on Friday, Scotland, in the same Group are in Lithuania, Wales are in Cardiff on Saturday against Austria, Northern Ireland are in Monaco and the Republic are in Georgia. Also, watch out for the international pick of the weekend which, hopefully, will be a classic as Spain go head to head with France on Saturday (ITV4) in their Group. Finally, for all you footie fans out there hoping for a last minute purchase by your club of a superstar, don't forget the summer transfer window closes on Thursday night so expect a plethora of signings before the deadline. Coutinho to Barca? I wonder! Phew, reports on 7 different sports, must be a Jezza record but 'tis all for this week…Jezza

Lap 30 saw the safety car come out following another incident between Ocon and Perez. This time Perez squeezed Ocon into the wall causing both damage – Ocon part of his front wing and Perez, a punctured right rear tyre – debris was everywhere. Most cars pitted including the front runners and the safety car was held out while the pack ‘bunched up’. Upon the restart Vettel was stuck to the back of Hamilton and his challenge remained strong but Hamilton had done just enough to keep the prancing horse behind him. Bottas lost out on the restart with Ricciardo passing him one side and Raikkonen on the other, Raikonnen took P4 and Bottas P5. Hulkenberg took P6 for Renault, while a change in strategy half way through the race helped Grosjean take P7 and Massa’s Williams P8. Ocon’s Force India finished P9, his teammate had less luck and Perez retired late in the race. Sainz took P10 for Toro Rosso with Stroll just behind him P11 for Williams. Toro Rosso’s Kvyat finished P12 and Palmers Renault P13, McLaren’s Vandoorne crossed the line P14 and finally Ericsson for Sauber P15. Yes you guessed it, McLaren’s Alonso retired again, his Honda engine is now an embarrassment to the sport and the former
