We all have reason to be thankful to Ibiza’s tourists upon whom every aspect of our economy is reliant. As with any love affair however, the relationship is not always straightforward. Ibiza’s relationship with its visitors has gone beyond the early heady days of unabated joy and romance, and moved into a
reality of balancing too many kids, not enough income, and the need for regular date nights to remind us we are in love at all. Ibiza’s online relationship status would be ‘it’s complicated’. For many years everybody has pulled together in promoting Ibiza as a destination. The success of Ibiza as a world brand is undeniable, but some people feel it is becoming a victim of its own success. With finite resources in space and infrastructure - 571 square kilometres (220 square miles) to be precise, some feel that the island is reaching unsustainable numbers during the sum-
mer season. On page 4 of this issue, we have reported on the key statistics of airport passengers, hotel occupancy and tourist numbers. As a clear example of the huge growth in recent years, August’s airport passenger numbers have increased from circa 800,000 in 2004 to just under 1,400,000 this year. An increase of 67%. Debate will continue as to whether Ibiza’s maximum number of tourists will be determined purely by market forces, or some form of state regulation and control, however, today (Continued on page 3)

Day of the Tourist (Continued from page 1) Thursday 15th September is nominated as one of our ‘date nights’ on which we celebrate and give thanks to everything the tourists bring to our island. For many of us, that includes our own introduction and love affair with Ibiza. Such is the island’s special attraction that the Consell have held receptions for tourists of 40 plus, and even one 61 year, successive Ibiza visits. I am sure many Ibiza resident readers will have followed the pattern of an annual holiday becoming, bi-annual, tri-annual extending into a longer lifestyle stay, before ultimately making the commitment. So on Thursday 15th let us all be forgiving of the question “how long have you lived here” followed up by “do you like it?” On Thursday we must remember our common roots and make extra effort to do whatever is within our power to make those tourists that cross our path have the most enjoyable holiday possible. A wide-ranging agenda of special activities and events have been arranged throughout the island and so please help spread the word and give the information to as many people as possible. The issue of Ibiza’s exponential growth in Tourist volume, and more to the point how to handle it, is complex and will not be resolved overnight. In the meantime perhaps we should face this relationship taking the advice of one of our most famous visitors into account.

In the years I have been writing articles on Ibiza tourist statistics I cannot yet remember one with figures going down. On a day to day level we all notice this increase in visitors in the traffic on our streets and flesh on our beaches. With this seemingly never ending upward trends in Ibiza Tourist statistics, we ask whether the market should be allowed to dictate when the island has reached its finite achievable numbers, or whether the Government should step in to control Ibiza's visitors at a sustainable level. Ibiza Airport has Record 1.4 Million passengers in August
Spain heads the list with the U n it e d Kingdom second with some 368,497 travellers representing an increase of 5.3%. In third place is Italy w i t h 216,234 passengers, 0.6% more than in August 2015. Aircraft movements carried out last month totalled 12,992, an increase of 4.1%. Passengers in the eight months to date show a substantial increase of 12.7% over the same period in 2015, equating to 5,332,497 passengers.

Ibiza airport’ August traveller tally came in at 1,390,009 passengers, 6.9% more than during the same month last year.
Speaking of the figures, Juanjo Riera, president of the Pitiuses Hotel Federation said yesterday that they had actually predicted even higher at 97% - a figure he felt the islands could handle.

A c cording to Riera it was the last few days of the month between Sunday 28 and Wednesday 31 August that dropped the overall occupancy level in certain parts of the islands. Surprisingly perhaps given it is considered the boom area of Ibiza, it was actually the Ibiza Town sector that includes Playa D’en Bossa that let the numbers down with a rate of 93.72% in the last fortnight, when in the same period of 2015 it was 95.77%. Riera considers that as well as being the most expensive area, it is also the current attraction for the younger crowd, many of whom may have been returning to studies towards the end of the month. That was not the case in Sant Antoni and its bay, also a younger hotspot, where occupancy was 95.19%, 0.5% higher than in 2015. Juanjo Riera believes that Ibiza must concentrate on its infrastructure to avoid a feeling amongst visitors that the island is reaching saturation point. By way of example he stated improvements to the Ibiza to Santa Eulalia road, drainage and through its problems bad odours in Ibiza Town, and the interconnection of desalination plants as all being important improvements for Ibiza to withstand the increasing tourist numbers.

Ibiza Tourist Numbers by Nationality
British Make Up a Quarter of Ibiza’s 1.6 Million July Tourists Tourist Count - Balearic Statistics Institute—Year to July Tourism Up 11%
Figures released by Ibestat, the Balearic statistics institute, show Ibiza tourist numbers to be up by 11% in the year to the end of July compared to the same period in 2015. Of the 1,647,000 visitors, only the Spanish show a decrease in numbers down by 3.4%, but still comprising the second largest nationality. At 455,000 tourist visitors the UK is up 8.4% and represents the biggest national group by far. Aside from Spain the UK brings more than double the number of tourist to the next biggest nationalities of Italy at 204,000 and Germany with 190,000. Though still a very small overall percentage, the Scandinavian market has shown the biggest increase up 58%, with France also showing a marked increase up 28% to 88,000.
Ryanair Edinburgh Service from March Tickets are now on sale for the new route which will commence March 26th 2017 on a twice weekly schedule.
A quick search on the Ryanair website gave availability from 80€ at the outset, increasing to a maximum shown of 210€ in July and August. The flights are Wednesday and Sunday, though when we searched the booking system would only accept Wednesday UK departures.
Beach Closed in San An Bay due to Sewage Spill
On Friday 9th September, environmental officers from San José town hall took the decision to temporarily close the beach of Caló d'en Serral following a sewage spill. Local businesses raised the alarm at 8.30am stating that a river of excrement was traversing the beach. By the time the officers attended at 11:30am it is understood the sewage had reached the sea. San José town hall stated that the overflow discharge was due to a power failure at Port Des Torrent pumping station.
They said that the problem has been fixed but that the beach would remain closed for at least 24 hours before further testing is conducted. The diario de Ibiza reported that those reporting the problem were amazed it took so long for the authorities to react. They said "the beach has been busy with people swimming and bathing since 8:30, and all while the beach is full of crap." Caló d'en Serral is one of the many small stretches of sand in the Bay of San Antonio. Approx 75m in total length it is the next beach east of Pinet Playa. Note we think this is a quite old picture of the beach the outlook is now quite different. It is all we could find, and it unattributed.
"Rest in Peace Grandfather" Las Dalias founder Juan Mari Juan dies age 89. Juan Mari Juan, founder of Las Dalias, died on Friday afternoon, the 9th of September, in hospital Can Misses at 89 years old. In a statement issued by Las Dalias they paid tribute to their founder who was born in Sant Carles in 1927. "A farmer and carpenter who put all his efforts in the implementation of a roadhouse in 1954, when tourists started to arrive in Ibiza. Today, thanks to his efforts and vision, Las Dalias has become internationally known." In a coincidentally timed but fitting tribute to his work, shortly before his death it was announced that the Tourism Award for 2016 had been made by the Balearic Government to Las Dalias in recognition of his extensive work and experience in promoting tourism in Ibiza. The funeral of Señor Mari Juan was held at 1pm Monday 12th September with a Mass at 6pm at the church of Sant Carles de Peralta. On Monday, during the Night Market, artisans, musicians, employees and friends gathered to pay tribute to "the father of Las Dalias and grandfather of us all. Rest in peace grandfather"

For my first hair blog. I began brain storming and realised I have A LOT to talk about when it comes to all things hair related. The first things that spring to mind when I think of 'Ibiza hair' are glittery roots, plaits, big bouncy long locks and this goddam Mr Whippy hair cut that just won't die. Some of these are positive, some of them not so much. I have to admit, I am a fan of the braiding trend that has swept the island, from the Kardashian mimic Dutch braids to the weird and wonderful patterned cane rows. Such a simple and easy way to keep your hair off your face and neck in the (sometimes unbearably) hot weather, whilst looking pretty slick at the same time. The glittery roots, however, is not something I am digging. To me it looks like bad dandruff! I'm all for a bit of glitter, sure, whack it all over your head and even all over your body, but secluded just at the roots just doesn't make sense to me. Big bouncy beautiful locks are definitely a big trend out here, I would say this is the style I get asked to give my clients more than any other. Whether it's the Ocean Beach style or slightly more loose boho vibe, I think it’s a great way to feel feminine and show off luscious locks - as long as you can bare a sweaty neck! And last but not least there is the 'Mr Whippy' or the 'Paintbrush' trend on men that seems to be sticking around like the worst smell in the world. The literary and cinematic phenomenon responsible for catapulting into the stratosphere Google searches for the term "BDSM" has returned in full force. Following Fifty Shades of Grey's mammoth $571 million taking at the box office last year, making it the fastest-selling 18 certificate film of all time, the franchise returns to screens with Fifty Shades Darker; the first of two sequels filmed backto-back, under the guidance of director James Foley. Are we in anticipation of New York Fashion Week’s September kickoff? I’m excited about Gigi Hadid and Tommy Hilfiger’s upcoming collaboration. For their autumn fashion presentation, Hadid and Hilfiger have planned an extravagant fashion experience, rather than a mere catwalk show, for those who attend. Gigi Hadid, who stepped in alongside Hilfiger as brand ambassador, is the perfect choice to represent the youthful collection, which features footwear, accessories, and fragrances, as well as, Hadid’s go-to clothing of choice: athleisure wear. This is going to be exciting.
average Joe can pull off, the tiny tufty pointless pony tail looks ridiculous. As does the highly quaffed back over done top with a bald underside. Get rid. Maybe I am just being old fashioned, if I had produced such a cut in my trades test when qualifying I would have failed, mashing two haircuts together can be an awesome creation, but in this case, I think not. So onto something a little more positive. One of the benefits I have found out here for my own hair is the mega heat doubled with the sea water/air. In England, I have limp, wispy hair with the echo of a wave that undoubtedly drops and leaves me with flat lifeless hair after a matter of hours. Out here, I can jump in the sea with freshly washed hair and surface with textured, curly almost dreadlock like mermaid hair. IF ONLY a manufactured product could recreate the same effect, in my ten years of hair dressing, so far, I have not found a salt spray that compares to the natural thing. My advice? Get yourself in the ocean as much as possible when on holiday and take advantage of its amazing natural styling potential. This leads me neatly on to a little hair advice, it's important to look after when spending time in the sun even if it is only a week. Both the sun and the salty air can really dry hair out, especially if it's coloured. I would recommend getting a nice spray in sun lotion such as Kiko’s solar hair repair serum and investing in a good conditioning treatment, or smothering it in coconut oil and leaving it overnight. Coconut oil is such a great product in the kitchen and in the beauty world. figures from Christian's past; promising plenty of steamy drama, with the final film in the trilogy Fifty Shades Freed pitched for a 2018 release. This right here, is the difference between the new Elle Macpherson Body brand of lingerie and Elle Macpherson Intimates, with which she parted company two years ago. At 52, Macpherson is not just here to look good in knickers; she is the brains of the operation. After 25 years of experience in lingerie, Macpherson now has “skin in the game”, Elle Macpherson Body is a 50-50 venture, into which she has put equal investment with Australian entrepreneur Simon de Winter. She clearly picked up a lot about knickers. The new bras are designed both to look good, and to look good under clothes. This sounds obvious, but it’s not: most pretty lingerie ruins the line of a silk blouse or a cotton T-shirt, while most T-shirt bras are hideous. The colours of Elle Macpherson Body are so lovely, colours of pistachio, teal and ginger. The touches of the garments look like they give a smooth line. Each piece seems to be designed to be seen from every angle. Bra straps are angled so that they start close together on the back strap and fan outward towards your shoulder, which makes your waist look narrower and your shoulders broader and more athletic. We all know, with underwear, it’s all about thinking: if you don’t have a great body, how do you make a body look great?”

So many pool parties are happening at the moment. But what does one wear, say if they want to look good, but also have a dip in the pool? This article will detail fashion items that are glamorous enough to party in, but also casual enough to wear of a daytime. Swimwear. First up, the basics. There are so many stunning costumes, bikinis and two pieces available in stores and online. Some are so pretty that they don’t even need anything adding to make it stand it. Victoria Secret bikinis, although a little expensive, are fine examples, especially the colourful sets. Some are there bikinis are bright, summery colours and definitely wouldn’t go unnoticed. River Island has some stunning stuff. They have a holiday section. Fringe bikini tops, lace bikini tops, costumes with plunging necklines, in a variety of different colours are only some of what’s on offer. My favourite shopping sites are also Asos and Missguided. A cover up. Maybe you don’t feel comfortable walking
around half naked at a packed pool of people. Worry not, as there are many fashionable and stunning cover ups, which can also add the glam factor to swimwear, or again, just give you the extra confidence. Kimono’s are perfect. There are so many different styles, and colours. They can also be floor length, or waist length, (maxi kimono.) They’re also easy to slip in and out of when you fancy having a swim, from sunbathing. Playsuits are another option, and again easy to get in and out of swiftly. There are dress and shorts style playsuits. Kaftan’s, a little similar to kimono’s are great, especially plain white ones which show off your suntan. T-shirt maxi dress. These are super comfortable, and casual. They’re probably best worn with some accessories: bangles, dangly earrings or rings to glam them up a tad. Lastly, footwear is of utmost importance when attending a pool party. This is the part where you should put it a little extra time in choosing what to wear. If you decide to wear flat flipflops for the comfort, get fancy ones with diamantes on, gems, studs etc. Silver and gold flipflops stand out already, and look glamorous. However don’t shy away from wearing bright colours, especially if your swimwear is plain black or white. Heeled sandals or wedges. These can change almost any outfit from casual to fancy in a second. Not only do they
create the illusion of longer legs, but wearing heels just looks like you’ve put in more of an effort. A hat. Hats can also look glamorous providing you choose the right one. My favourite are the floppy straw hats, but in black. They go with almost anything. They come in many different colours and designs, whether decorated with flowers, ribbons, patterns. Caps can also bling up an outfit, but usually if they’re the cool leather type, studded ones that someone like Rhianna would wear, although I think they look too casual. Makeup. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing a full face of makeup in the blistering heat, at least add some mascara, and brush some gold bronzer over your cheeks. Lip-gloss and lipbalm will keep your lips moist too. So, if you’re going to the beach, and a pool party afterwards, or the other way around, stock up on the above and you can go from daywear to eveningwear in a matter of seconds. The Roast is Back!
Those on Ibiza’s East Coast may again sleep well, safe in the knowledge that the Mariposa Sunday Roast is back on the menu for the late summer and autumn season, and thereby balance is restored to the universe. One of the very best traditional Sunday lunches you will find in Ibiza, and served at what is without doubt one of the friendliest places to eat. View isn’t too shabby either ☺ Here is our review lunch from last Autumn. I don’t think you’ll mind if you have read it before. I have, but reading it again has made me yearn for my next Sunday on the Pueblo Esparagos—Viva Cala Llonga
Sunday Lunch ~ It’s All Gravy Beef, Pork or Chicken 10.50€, Lamb 11.50€ Range of homemade puddings 4.50€ to 5.50€, Each to their own, but I’m not a fan of Sunday Roasts in the baking heat of the Summer. I know lots love it but for me Roast Dinners come on the agenda at the same time as the Christmas ads on TV, i.e. September. This was my first eating out post summer and so really looking forward to it. Everybody had plenty of meat, the portion control used being my favourite measure of ‘just a bit too much’. Way too much is wasteful and if deliciousness dictates may demand overeating. Too little means you are probably somewhere with ‘bistro’, ‘gastro’ or God forbid ’fusion’ in the name that will have me muttering complaint when presented with the bill. This was in the Goldilocks ‘just right zone’. The chicken came both light and dark, the pork with some special crackling. Mint, apple, horseradish, whatever my chosen meat in the Sunday sauce trinity, I want lots of it and do not enjoy having to ask waiting staff for three more thimbles of a restaurant’s efforts at epicurean economy, so the broad dishes with copious supplies of each were a welcome sight. Home made Yorkshire, we are ticking all the boxes, and then of course it comes, the gravy. Sitting in such a brilliant setting in the brilliant sun-
shine, it would have been impossible not to pour that so very British brown embellishment without realising that it certainly is, “it is all gravy.” Even the vegetables were gravy, metaphorically speaking. I can’t think it is often I specifically seek out the name of a veg supplier. So tasty, so very tasty. We all know that one thing the BBC will never be telling relatives at home is that their food tastes better than ours. The British supermarket force grown, perfectly formed abominations on the memories of our allotment owning grandparents do not come close to even our most standard supermarket fruit and veg. But these were that bit more. Remarkable even by Ibizan standards. Funny how visitors remark at how our children are really good at eating their vegetables. Yes, that would be because they can taste them. Our son clicked on the extra specialness of these with no less than 3 return for Broccoli and Cauliflower, whilst dad used his rusty silver service for no one but himself in ensuring no carrot was left behind. As we were enjoying the afternoon you couldn’t help but notice the succession of puddings pass by to other less patient patrons. Apple Pie created with an outlook of ‘now that’s an apple pie’. Syrup Sponge Pudding smothered in creamy custard that had been created with an outlook of ‘now that’s a childhood memory’. There were others but I only had eyes for these little beauties and was wrangling over my inevitable infidelity as choosing either over the other seemed wrong at a spiritual level, when I discovered that demons were afoot. No pie! No pud! In hindsight of course I was an idiot. You don’t keep watching these be served assuming there will be one left. Why would there be any left, look at them? And so your humble reviewer who has some modest claim to eat professionally, revealed himself as a rank amateur. Cheese was suggested. I like cheese. But still salivating over my sweet cravings it felt, well, it wasn’t pie and it wasn’t pud. Was the day to end on a low? But then there were angels. Sweet, well savoury, cheesy angels. What we got was not the afterthought of something served to the tortured souls of pie and pud deprivation. The platter of Stilton, Brie and Red Leicester flown in by our winged guardians was enough to provide tasty nibbling for a
long time to come. OK, this cheese feast needed one thing, an essential missing ingredient. Guess what it is yet? But lo and behold before I could get to order the essential glass of port, one was served to me – they include it with cheese and biscuits as standard. In my book that’s a real nice touch - classy. Whoops, still one thing missing. No butter. As if projected by angels on high, or Joe behind the bar who understandably didn’t want to miss any of his Crystal Palace holding their own at Anfield, the butter came from nowhere and required the instinctive catch of a long retired slip. Then again why should that come as a surprise, Mariposa, where the Butter Flies. Brilliant.

Jesus told a story: "What woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9 When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' 10 Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." (Luke 15:8-10) The story has the ring of truth and fits the Jewish and Aramaic culture of the 1st Century. The Greek word translated as “silver coin” is Greek silver coin, the drachma, which had the same value roughly as the Roman silver coin, the denarius – the value of a day’s wage for a labourer. In the background, but not referred to in the text, is probably the custom of the woman's headdress, which was her dearest possession and nest egg. As ten drachma comprise a modest decoration, the woman was extremely poor. By sweeping her dark residence she finds the jingling coin on the hard rocky floor again and rejoices, inviting her friends and neighbours to share her joy. This is a surprising picture of God who searches for the lost soul. Don’t be put off by the word “repent” in the story: “Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." The English word “repent” is unfortunate. The Collins English Dictionary has the definition: “to feel remorse (for); be contrite (about); show penitence.” In the Hebrew and Aramaic languages that Jesus spoke the word he would have used is pronounced shuv in Hebrew and tuv in Aramaic and both words simply mean “to turn” or “to return”. That’s all. No feelings whatsoever are necessary. The story is about being lost and being found by God. The meaning of the story is surely that God searches diligently for the lost individual. The other nine coins are safe. And when we are found we turn or return to God. When that happens God is joyful and happy! The angels of the face of God reflect that joy into us. For me addictive behaviour can be characterised when the behaviour or desire to carry out certain behaviours starts to control you rather then you control it. For me it is not about frequency or amount but about the relationship you have with that behaviour. Secondly you say you have no desire to get married, which of course is your choice, but I wonder why you feel the need to verbalise it? Is that for yourself or do you feel some kind of social pressure to conform in some way? You ask if your behaviour is normal and OK, I hear your desire for an endorsement from me or others that your behaviour is normal and OK, I am not able to give that to you or anyone else. If it feels normal for you and the others involved are fully aware of the situation and in agreement then does my or anyone else’s opinion matter? I would like to ask you if maybe it does matter because it matters to you, in which case you have choices about how you would like to live in the future. Funny how this one turned out. What started as a review of the seemingly immortal Judgement developed into something of a spiritual experience.
Judge Jules is now in his 16th consecutive year in San Antonio, and in the fickle club world that is as good as immortal. The Judge won’t budge? Well aside from a change of night, and a well read sidestep of the debacle Gatecrasher year which found him over the road in Es Paradis, it seems he really won’t. The night got off to a great—classic—San An start. Such a shame that those who dismiss the town without knowing it do not get to see this side of San An that we have come to love so much. We started with a post-sunset dinner at the waterfront’s new street food/taco joint Palapa. Perfect for a night out it is all about the flavour and you come away without any loss of your desire for the dancefloor. Almost as good as the food is the street cabaret of normal lives passing in front of you on the paseo. As good as anything the Port has to offer, and if I’m honest it is often much more entertaining. The social circle was then extended by a visit to San An’s pre party bar of choice for grown ups, Plastik. Always a warm welcome and good people, faces you know and the type of place that those you don’t know when you walk in, you do by the time you leave. All very civilised, very cool, even chic with a healthy portion of freak here and there. A million miles from the ‘reputation’ that keeps some people away. What time did we go around to Eden? I really can’t remember. Pre at Plastik always seems to dull the senses to some extent, but I’m guessing it would have been around 1am. Oh my days the senses were soon snapped back into sharp focus.

a building with the acoustics of an abandoned warehouse or country barn (because that’s what it was) pretty well any venue will sound high fidelity by comparison. It may sometimes seem like a game of one-upmanship as clubs list their tech-spec of sound systems where visual design seems to have developed alongside audio capabilities to a level where a certain type of bloke (it’s probably mainly blokes isn’t it?) will go weak at the knees when looking at them before they have even heard a tone. I think it fair to say that Eden’s system is by general consensus one of Ibiza’s premier league installs. Void is the brand in sound as Channel is in perfume as Zonda is in supercars. Whether they are the best may be open to debate in audio geek circles but they are without question the most aspirational. Entering Eden in our chatting cluster of friends, and friends of friends, I might normally have taken little notice of whoever was playing on arrival but tonight it really did hit me, BANG, I demand your attention. I have heard many different DJ’s playing many different styles of music at Eden but without hesitation or reservation - in my opinion - nobody has got the Eden system sounding as spot on, as sweet and tight, as the incumbent booth holders Son of 8.

The Tech...
In 2013 Eden had a complete top to bottom refurbishment. New owner Rinco Soesman had already gained a clubland reputation for his ‘no compromises’ sound system in his Amsterdam based venues. Eden was seen as an opportunity to push what can be achieved further still, in his words “The goal was to create one of the most sonically and visually impressive environments on the planet”. Having already installed Void in Holland, the partnership was already established, and Void’s mighty Incubus flagship system was the outcome – but customised in gold for that extra dash of pizazz. Void now showcase the Eden sound as a case study in the very best of what can be achieved. For those of us without the technical depth in sound engineering to understand the functions of the various components we can at least be wowed by it both looking and sounding superb. But for those who love the tech, the system spec is the core Custom Gold Incubus Sound System, Air Motions, Tri Motions, Airtens, Stasys X V2 Low Frequency Enclosures and a plethora of various Venu series speakers as fills throughout the club. An example of how this quality is reflected is in Eden’s seamless soundfield. In a lesser install the separate and/ or more distant speakers will have a slight, but noticeable time lag. Position yourself between two sound zones and it is an offensive clash. No chance of that in Eden wherever you roam. Whether or not you have personally heard Eden’s system, if you are in any way connected to the current clubbing world you will know of Void’s stellar reputation as the masters of sound. Ok you could go to any heavy metal gig and feel the vibrations of bass but this was so different. It is as if the music travels through you, as if your spine is a conductor. I once had the rather interesting experience of attending a Tantric love camp in San Miguel. To give a reader’s digest description, the art of Tantric sex is all about channelling energy through your body to achieve stronger and more intense orgasms. I can’t help feeling much more could have been achieved much more quickly and with much more universal success by just dumping us in Eden for a day or two. Though how Son of 8 would have felt playing to a bunch of naked hippies writhing around the place I don’t know. Having given such bliss, bliss and heaven to my own ookos (ears), I contacted Son of 8 to talk audio . We tend to go back to basics, making sure all of the gain levels don’t bounce over 0, if they bounce in the red, you aren’t going to get the cleanest sound. We also tend to get out onto the dancefloor and listen to the levels from there. Checking the volume from another point of view can be very beneficial, it’s certainly a good idea to get out there and hear what’s going on.”

At last, time to shut up with all the critique, and enjoy the music in the safe hands of the Judge. The dustbin lid bashing monkeys were put to bed for the night and we returned to his slick and tight set—but with a much more eclectic range than I was expecting. If you are going to go out there who better than the brothers—and Boom Boom Boom, everybody say wayo had the party bouncing. We had some clever stuff along the way in the next two hours—a cheeky Café del Mar vs Last Night a DJ Saved my Life came out of nowhere, and a classic of all classic anthems Rozalla’s Everybody’s Free was given the respectful treatment it deserves. My opinion of how good the sound was in the hands of Son of 8 was already made while they were playing. However, it just so happened that the next DJ to take control of the decks gave the best possible reinforcement of the point you could hope for—albeit in a horribly opposite direction. I am not going to name her as it would seem unfair — because frankly it could have been any one of 50 DJs I have seen over the past few years. I hope readers will trust me when I say I do not pre-judge. This is even to the extent I refuse to dismiss Paris Hilton as a bad DJ on the grounds I have never heard her play and so I am not in a position to do so. That said, the statistical improbability of so many newly emerging DJ’s being ‘pin-up pretty’ does raise a question mark. To put it bluntly, we went from audio Nirvana to a bunch of monkeys bashing dustbin lids within 5 minutes. The ‘feeling’ of the noise went from tantric orgasm to dental extraction. Not only this, but she was seemingly determined to butcher as many classic anthems as possible within her allotted time. Again I am not a luddite campaigning for vinyl as the only true medium, but the ease of access that technology has given to budding DJ’s is akin to the advent of the AK47. A fantastic invention that gave access to hugely more people at very low cost and zero training. Despite all that, it is also responsible for the murder of millions. I feel kind of the same way about the advent of digital DJ tools/ automation. Making things better and easier sometimes comes with a price. I could go further to say that she had the cheesiest and most self-obsessed graphics I have ever seen but I might
Sport Jezza’s World of Sport So sorry, Sports Fans, gonna be short and sweet this week as “´er indoors!” and I have just got back from our R and R trip to Extremadura, western Spain and Portugal and were unfortunate to both pick up the dreaded lurgy! So, confined to my sick bed with aches and pains but, ever the rookie journo, will just bring you up to date with last w/end's sports news. Commiserations seem to be the name of the game for this week as in Boxing Kell Brook lost out to Golovkin at the O2 arena in a world middleweight fight. Cycling Chris Froome lost out to Colombian Quintana at the Vuelta de España in his bid to become the first man to win the TdF and the Vuelta in the same season as he came second; Tennis Andy Murray was surprisingly beaten at the US Open in the Quarters by Nishikori, with a big surprise in the Final as Stan Wawrinka beat World No 1 Djokovic to claim his 3rd Major. But congrats to Andy's brother Jamie who, with partner Brazilian Soares, won the Men’s Doubles Final. Golf to Englishman Paul Casey who came second in not just one but two PGA tournaments over the last week. Cricket to Eoin Morgan and his England team as they were annihilated by 9 wickets by a rejuvenated Pakistan team in the T20, the final match of their tour. Football to Jose Mourinho who lost his first Manchester derby as his nemesis Guardiola and his City team won 2-1 at OT to remain at the top of the Premier League being the only team left
with a 100% record. Elsewhere, Chelsea, in 2nd, drew 2-2 in Swansea with a Costa brace, Everton, now in 3rd, smacked Sunderland with a Lukaku hat-trick, Tottenham in 4th won 4-0 at Stoke, Arsenal beat Southampton 2-1, Bournemouth got back on the winning trail with a 1-0 home win over West Brom, Burnley drew 1-1 at home to Hull, Liverpool won 4-1 against champions Leicester at Anfield, Crystal Palace recorded a much needed win by 2-1 at Middlesbro', and finally West Ham continued their miserable form with yet another loss at home, this time by 4-2 despite going 2-0 up. Rugby Union and only 3 teams left in the Premiership now with 100% records, Saracens after they beat Exeter 34-13, Bath after their 58-5 win over Newcastle and Wasps, who won 34-22 at Leicester. British Powerboat Racing
Ibizan reader Richard Carlton kindly sent this image of his Cowes Classic winning boat suitably emblazoned with his Ibizan connection and sponsored by Marc’s restaurant in Jesus. Probably as well this is going on a black and white page, as the murky grey/green of British coastal waters will not be apparent, however Richard tells us there is a good possibility of arranging a power boat race in Ibiza in September 2017. Of the Cowes Classic held on 4th September this year, Richard told us that they won in rough conditions over a 91km course averaging 122km’s an hour (76mph, 66 knots) but reaching a maximum speed of an incredible 149kmh (92mph, 80 knots). To give an idea of exactly how fast that is, at their average speed, Richard’s powerboat would take under an hour to circumnavigate the entire of Ibiza.

The Beer Festival in Ibiza Town is on next weekend from Friday September 16 to Sunday 18. There will be more than 150 beers from Ibiza, Spain and around the world, plus food and a children’s area. This year there’ll also be a stand selling Isleña Hoptails (cocktails made with Isleña beer) if you want to try something different. Now in its 9th year, it’s a highly organised affair. You purchase ‘Birris’, tokens that you exchange for the beer. There’s a printed menu that lists and describes all the beers available and where they are from, how many Birris each one costs and which stand you get it from. You can work your way around the world’s beers and/or

sample something different you’ve never tried before. If you like beer, you’ll be in beer heaven, but note that it’s almost exclusively bottled beers. Each night there are also DJs (well it is Ibiza) and this year there’s a great roster: Friday night is Jordi Cardona, Saturday is La Movida DJs Petit and Vasquez and Sunday is Javi Box. So once the hips have been oiled with a couple of choice cervezas you’ll be ready to dance the night away. It’s held in the Recinta Ferial from 7pm, just outside Ibiza Town on the road to San Antonio. Entrance is 3€, but that includes two ‘Birris’ that can be redeemed at any of the bars.
