TASK 2

NIALL CRUICKSHANK-SUTTON BA GRAPHIC DESIGN OUCE255 TASK 2

Based on the principles that have been introduced so far in the Enterprise module, as well as the previous tasks, investigate, analyse and critically evaluate where your potential clients are located. You will need to consider the following questions: Where are my potential clients/employers located? What media do my potential clients/employers use? What do you need to communicate and how does it match what your clients/employer need? Analyse and compare these examples in relation to the Political, Economic, Social and Technological (PEST analysis) factors that affect their use of graphic design, choice of designer and trends that will influence their decisions regarding graphic design. Once you have done this summarise your findings by focussing on 1 example and discussing how the clients location and/or use of media will affect what you need to communicate to them and how you might go about doing this. This is an exercise in exploring and applying PEST analysis and related theories – it is not appropriate to write about the theory itself. Demonstrate your understanding of it by actually using it.

WHERE ARE MY POTENTIAL CLIENTS/EMPLOYERS LOCATED? - City/Towns - Publishers - Councils - Universities - Colleges - Small businesses - Corporate companies For the most clients and employers would be found in larger cities as this would be central place for business to function therefore where the majorities of clients would be and consequent employers. WHAT MEDIA DO MY POTENTIAL CLIENTS/EMPLOYERS USE? The most obvious way of comunication between your self a client and any potencial employers would be the internet, through ebsites and blogs clients and even employers would be able to view your currant and past work. This is a vital resourse to have a truely global and fast way of presenting your work and who you are as a creative. This idea applies not only to yourself as a creative but also to your clients or employer, when applying for a job you would research the complany and if it is a design based complany it is more thatn likely that you would be interested in the kind of work they produce. Simpilarly if your where doing a job for a client you may need to know about the company, and if they have a web page this would help. Another form or way a client or emplyer may operate and comunicate could be through letters and printed media in the form of catologues for example, in the case of a letter they may require an identity to present ho they are> This would also be aplicable to emailing or indeed PDF documents.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO COMMUNICATE AND HOW DOES IT MATCH WHAT YOUR CLIENTS/EMPLOYER NEED? As a designer I would like to focus on publishing and editorial design as this is an area of design I am particlularly intrested in. I would like to make comunication clear, concise and accessable for the reader. Comunication is a vital part of buissness and clear precise communication is integeral. Clients and employers need to save money in the economic climate there for it is important to create clear cut design that conveys there message. I feel I can comunicate this through my design, when design is strives for perfection and it works, it will fufil the brief and create a valuable piece of work therefore become a valuable commodity. I would be doing my job to the best of my ability, and comunicting who I am as a designer.

TASK 2 SUMMARY The clients relationship with the location of there buisness and there relationship with there designer in an economic climate that could depict how much they are willing to pay for services and how they will phacilitate these serveces. If you have a local design firm or a design firm that is based in close proxcimity to your buisness it will cut cost on any meetings, delivery and any non web or phone based comunication, this would affect both parties. The flip side to this is even with finacial restraints is if you, or your buissness have a good reputation for quality, competitive design, this would allow bussnesses to feel safe in employing you if you are based far away from there buisness centre, added to this the amount of internet based communication and there can be a massivly reduced need to have physical communication with your designer.
