THE LAW Based on a need to send safe, well-informed hunters & trappers into the field and to improve the behavior and reputation of hunters & trappers, New Hampshire Law requires all first-time hunters, bowhunters & trappers to be graduates of a hunter/bowhunter/trapper education course. The law applies to everyone regardless of age, military service or hunting/bowhunting/trapping experience. This law, however, has a “grandfather clause” allowing experienced hunters, bowhunters & trappers to produce an old hunting, archery or trapping license, which can be from New Hampshire or any other state or province from any year in lieu of a course. Students must have attained the age of twelve to attend the hunter education course. IMPORTANT Legislation enacted in 1981 prohibits the taking of any furbearing animals with a nonresident small game license. Furbearer, deer and bear seasons are established after public hearings and may change. Check N.H. Fish and Game Department’s Hunting Digest for new regulations.
