HELPING PEOPLE SUCCEED

SPRING 2023

From NFI North Executive DIrector, Paul Dann, PhD

Springtime always seems to come at the perfect moment. The need for more sunshine, green trees and budding flowers seems overdue after a long winter. Spring is a time for new growth; to venture out and reconnect with our community while deepening our commitment to the critical work of empowering and inspiring people to reach their full potential.

As I write this letter to you, I know that our team

members and the people we serve are fully embracing the arrival of spring, whether it’s the young people at Oliver Place hiking on Hermit Island or the whole team at our Bradford transitional housing services hosting a community wide Mental Health Brunch for the town, it’s clear that we’re energized by the arrival of this wonderful season.

As we move fully into the season, I invite you to join me in renewing your commitment to provide high quality, participant driven and trauma informed services. NFI North is a remarkable organization and our ability to work effectively to inspire and empower people to reach their full potential is unsurpassed. And while we do outstanding work the need for our critical services continues unabated. Together we must work to expand our reach as well as our capacity to meet the needs of the people we serve.

I want to thank you for all that you are doing to ensure that we live into our important mission and hope that you enjoy reading our latest newsletter. Happy Spring!

Warmly,

NFI NORTH BOARD OF DIRECTORS

NFI North Wins!

The New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits 2023 Impact Award

The positive impact we have on the individuals and families we serve is what gets us up in the morning... so to be recognized for something so central to our mission is really an honor. We're so proud to be one of this year's recipients and even more proud of the work that we do every day to ensure that we are truly living into our important mission. Together we are successfully helping to inspire and empower the people we serve so that they can live successfully in their own homes and community.

Would you like to help change the life of a child?

Becoming a foster parent is a special opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child, both as a short-term commitment to their health, safety and well-being, but also with a lifelong impact as they reflect upon the comfort, shelter and stability during their time in foster care. Sometimes, what was initially considered to be a short-term placement may transition into something else – the potential for a lifelong relationship with a child through legal adoption.

May is Adoption Awareness Month, and it is an excellent time to highlight the need for foster families. More children than ever need temporary, safe homes compared to the amount of open foster homes. Nationwide, a child is placed into foster care every two minutes, so the need is great.

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has recently awarded NFI North a generous grant to support a media campaign to raise awareness about the shortage of foster families. Keep an eye out for our commercials and newspaper ads throughout May and the rest of the year!

Thank you, New Hampshire Charitable Foundation for sponsoring our Foster Family Recruitment Campaign!

How It Works

A foster parent is someone who is willing to provide a home for a child who is in temporary need of a family. It could be for a weekend, several months, or until the child turns 18. We can work with potential foster parents who have a preference, but most of our children don’t know how long they’ll need a place to stay. We are in the greatest need of parents willing to help any child who finds himself or herself without a family, and our foster parents often find this is the most rewarding way to enter the program.

Most people considering becoming a foster parent for the first time have a lot of questions. We would love to answer any questions that you have! You can reach our Foster Care Program Director, Debi Weeks at deborahweeks@nafi.com or call her at 603- 575-5667.
