T is for Takatāpui This term used to refer only to ‘an intimate companion of the same sex’ but has now become an umbrella term for Māori who identify as gender or sexuality diverse.
Q is for Queer or Questioning Once an insult, the word ‘queer’ has been reclaimed by the rainbow community as an umbrella term for gender or sexuality diverse identities. Not everyone in the community likes it, though. Questioning refers to someone who thinks they might be part of the rainbow community, but isn’t quite sure yet.
I is for Intersex A person born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t fit the typical definitions of female or male. This is more common than you might think, and is further proof that neither sex nor gender are actually binary.
A is for Asexual Someone who experiences little to no sexual attraction. Members of this community sometimes refer to themselves as ‘ace’ (asexual) or ‘aro’ (aromantic) and have other clarifying labels such as ‘demi-sexual’ or ‘grey/ace’.
A is for Allies Allies are people who are not part of the rainbow community but actively support and fight for the rights of rainbow people. We <3 our allies.

Disney is a company that has long been at odds with itself. It has been trying to present itself as more progressive while also retaining its ‘family values’ audiences. The challenge in being a competitive streaming service is that it needs to move with the times and as a result more and more LGBT+ characters and subplots are regularly appearing. Sometimes these have created extra layers to a character such as Josh Gadd’s Lefou in Beauty and the Beast. Other times these characters are trying to be overly woke and venture into self-parody like Jack Whitehall’s McGregor Houghton in Jungle Cruise. So, we thought we would lend a hand and point out a few Disney icons that should, when they are ready, feel free to come out of the mouse-house closet.
