NextDesign Geographies was created by GK VanPatter and Elizabeth Pastor of NextDesign Leadership Institute in New York to help explain the landscape of design practice and design education. NextD Journal was among the first to point out that most graduate design education programs reflected a "stay in the box" view of design remaining focused on Design 2.0 product and service creation at a time when the world outside had already radically changed. Presented at many conferences around the world, these frameworks helped to inform the creation of numerous next design related concepts impacting design practice and graduate design education today including Skill to Scale, The Rise of Visual SenseMaking and Adaptable Inquiry.
