Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) MADD Connecticut has a state office at 317 Foxon Road, East Haven. Executive director is Janice Heggie Margolis. MADD educates people on the dangers of drinking and driving, works with local schools and agencies to discourage drinking and driving, works to prevent underage drinking, provides support to victims of alcohol-related crashes (and their families), organizes special panels of victims who educate people (first-time offenders) convicted of drinking and driving, and, as the holiday season approaches, distributes red ribbons to discourage people from drinking and driving. Newtown Alumni Fund The Newtown Alumni Fund (NAF) is a group of alumni, friends, and families who have been part of the Newtown school system and who came together to provide immediate and long-term relief to the community following 12/14. In the immediate aftermath NAF formed a partnership with the Newtown Rotary Club and has contributed financial support to aid the families of victims and first responders. The long-term mission of NAF is to promote restoration and healing of the quality of life in the Newtown community by connecting students and teachers with Newtown’s alumni and the greater world, through developing and funding activities that promote psychological healing. Newtown Bridge Club The Newtown Bridge Club plays ACBL-sanctioned duplicate bridge games at 10 am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and at 7 pm on Tuesdays at the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Station, 34 Hawleyville Road. Newtown Bridle Lands Association, Inc, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving horse trails and open space within the greater Newtown area. It was originally formed by equestrians to assemble a network of riding trails but is now working to preserve open space for walkers, hikers, and equestrians. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of every month, beginning in March, at Newtown Meeting House. The group sponsors the Frost on the Pumpkin Hunter Pace every October.
