December’s Theme in our Elementary Environment

HOLIDAY 2011 NEWSLETTER

New Life Kids Newsletter -Holiday Edition (2011-2012)

Wrapped Up! by Rosie Villodas Director, New Life Kids Ministry

Christmas is on our door step! We have gotten everyone’s Christmas lists and are getting ready to shop like the Target Christmas lady. It’s so easy for us to get “Wrapped Up” in the business of Christmas. Kids too can forget what this season is all about. So we want to help our kids and ourselves remember to get wrapped up in others! So our theme this month is GenerosityMaking someones day by giving something away. James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.”

So we know that God is the giver of all good things. But we also know that God’s generosity has a purpose. In Week 1, we listen as Jesus tells the parable of a rich man in Luke 12:13-21. Bottom Line: People are always more important than stuff. In Week 2, we learn that you can’t take it with you! A rich young ruler has a big question in Luke 18:18-25. Bottom Line: Don’t let stuff get in the way of loving Jesus. In week 3, we read two different accounts in John 3:16-17 and Luke 2:1-18 about the Greatest Gift Exchange ever—when Jesus is born. Bottom Line:

God gave the greatest gift when He gave us Jesus. In week 4, there will be no kids program but we will have an online video where you and your child can learn this weeks lesson together! In week 4,we learn that wise men know how to be generous. Three men come to visit a young Jesus in Matthew 2:1-12. Bottom Line: When you give, it shows others how valuable they are. Christmas Clues! by Kathy Hill Editor in Chief, First Look Curriculum

It’s hard to believe it, but the stores are filling up with red and green. That can only mean one thing. Christmas is coming! Let’s get ready to celebrate! This December we will celebrate with our children that God gave us Jesus. God loves us SO much that He sent His Son to live among us and ultimately die for our sins. We will tremble with Mary as she hears of her coming child. We will give thanks with Mary and Joseph when they find a stable in which to deliver their first child. We will rejoice with the angels who came to deliver the good news. We will honor our Savior with gifts along with the wise men. As we work through the amazing Christmas story, we will celebrate the most amazing gift of love ever given, God’s Son Jesus. By Kathy Hill. © 2011 Orange. December Take Home by New Life Kids Staff Family Experience in a Bag

This month we will be teaching Preschoolers that God gave us Jesus! We’ll also be reminding elementary aged kids to get “Wrapped Up” in people this Christmas.

We know that this holiday season can get really busy and it can be tough to find opportunities to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with your kids. So, we wanted to make it easy for you! On December 18th, we will be handing out Christmas Birthday Kits to every family. In it you will find a few items to get you started in creating an easy family tradition that will help everyone remember what Christmas is all about. Look out for more info coming in the next couple of weeks on Facebook (www.facebook.com/NewLifeKids) and our Blog (www.newlifekidsnyc.blogspot.com)

Snacks Unpacked by Rosie Villodas Director, New Life Kids Ministry

I’ve been debating for a while whether or not our Elementary kids need to have snack during service. Most kids are only here for one service, which is probably around 55 min to 1hr 15min. Do they really need a snack and is it really a necessary part of the class? We’ve thought long and hard about it and have decided that we will no longer serve snacks in our Elementary rooms (K-5) on Sunday’s Beginning January 2011. It wasn’t an easy decision to make. There were many things we had to consider in making this decision. (continued on next page)

Week 4 Know when to stop. (Proverbs 25:16)

Week 5 Use the Bible to guide your thoughts. (Philippians 4:8)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

New Life Kids is Canceled Today. (Childcare available for Nursery-Kindergarten.)

So, we would like to share with you how we came to this decision: Snack Fact #1: It costs a lot of money to have snacks. We have around 100-120 elementary a weekend during the school year and when you add up the cost of animal crackers, cheese crackers, cups and apple juice for that many kids 52 weekends a year, the cost will actually shock you. Snack Fact #2: We have many kids with severe food allergies. To assure that each child is safe and healthy we want to leave the food choices in the hands of parents. Snack Fact #3: We have so many fun, exciting and powerful ways that we want to introduce worship and other spiritual growth activities on Sunday Mornings, but do not have the time because of the time we take out to serve and eat snacks. Many times we even have to hold off on our learning activities in Small Group because we’re eating snacks. In light of this change we want to encourage you to be sure to give your child a snack/breakfast before bringing
