Attended high school in Rockwall, Texas. 2010 w/ Peoria Chiefs, Daytona Cubs, and Tennessee Smokies: Combined to go 10-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 49 relief appearances at three levels in the Cubs system... Began the season in extended spring training and joined Peoria on April 17... With Peoria, recorded either a win or a save in each of his first seven games to begin the season... Was a Single-A Midwest League Mid-Season All-Star with Peoria... Was promoted to Advanced-A Daytona on June 15... Was promoted to Double-A Tennessee in late-August. 2009 w/ Daytona Cubs: Started 25 games... Finished fourth in the Advanced-A Florida State League with 61 walks and third with 14 home runs allowed. College Career: Played three seasons at Texas Tech University (2006-08) prior to being drafted by the Cubs following his junior season... Was primarily a position player as a freshman and sophomore before shifting to the mound for his junior season... As a freshman in 2006, played 56 games and hit .285 with five home runs and 35 RBIs while starting 48 contests (26 at first base, 22 in the outfield)... As a sophomore in 2007, hit .290 with three home runs and 25 RBIs as the Red Raiders starting first baseman en route to being named an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection while making four relief appearances and allowing seven runs in 3.1 innings on the mound...
