‘Walking through St Ives always excites me and inspires me to paint. The brightness and white walls make me want to fill everything with colour. My head is always in St Ives. It is a passion that never dies, and it will always be my starting point for any painting.’ –Emma Williams, 2018 This new collection of work captures Emma Williams’ very personal sense of St Ives, the place that she knows and loves best. In her distinctly decorative style, with its simple shapes and flattened perspective, Emma’s still life interiors and window framed scenes of the town and harbour evoke happy memories of her childhood holidays in St Ives. The domestic details of painted pottery and lively fabric patterns are echoed in the sprinkling of coloured sail boats on the sea, and painted houses along the sand, while arrangements of tulips, anemones, daffodils and agapanthus bring their varying personalities to each individual work. Rich with colour and sentiment, and entirely inspired by the vibrant visual combinations the artist sees daily all around her, these beautiful paintings bring a contemporary twist to the traditions of still life and landscape. 5
