Simon Wilks 2013 BA Three Dimensional Design, University of Wolverhampton. 2015 MA Ceramic Design, Staffordshire University.

Simon Wilks’ work explores the relationships between ceramic design and craft. Using Japanese tableware as an inspiration, he combines slip cast with hand thrown vessels; placing rustic with controlled form and shape. The slip cast and hand thrown vessels are situated upon beautifully treated wood; either polished mahogany, laminated plywood or burnt oak. Further contrasts are sort with rustic textured slab platters fired and hand crafted spoons, spatulas and scoops to echo the natural qualities in both the clay and wood. Tableware affords Simon a particular sublime experience undertaken when dining, those moments of time in which we are able to indulge in the combined experience of refined food and design. Simon Wilkes lives and works in Shropshire.
