Student Loans If you’re starting a course on or after 1 August 2013 you may qualify for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan. These loans help you to pay the tuition fees charged by colleges and training organisations. Most learners aged 24 and over, studying at level 3 and above, will qualify for these new loans from the UK government. It’s easy to apply, your household income isn’t taken into account and there’s no credit check. You won’t have to pay anything back until your income is over £21,000 a year. You can apply for a loan from April 2013 for courses starting between 1 August 2013 and 31 July 2014. To qualify you must be: • Aged 24 or over on the first day of your course (there’s no upper age-limit) and starting your course on or after 1 August 2013 • Living in the UK on the first day of your course and have lived in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for three years immediately before this. • Studying with a college or training organisation in England approved for public funding • Enrolling on an eligible course at level 3 and above which includes: A levels, Access to HE Diplomas, other Diplomas and Certificates, Advanced Apprenticeships or Higher Apprenticeships. Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) This course is ideal if you are new to the Lifelong Learning Sector or have some experience of Teaching/ Training but are not yet qualified. You will gain an understanding of basic practical teaching skills and theory. The PTLLS qualification consists of five sections: • Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching • Understand teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area • Demonstrate session planning skills • Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners • Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping.

Introduction to Information, Advice and Guidance This course aims to equip individuals working with adult learners with the skills and knowledge to provide information and advice on work, training and further learning. By the end of the course you can expect to have a better understanding of Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) and understand what makes for a good learning experience and have developed essential interviewing and research skills.

This course will give you the tools & theoretical knowledge to support families if you are working to the Family Intervention Program/ Think Family Model. Children & Young People’s Workforce You work, or are about to work, as a nursery assistant, crèche worker or special educational needs assistant in a supporting role. You want to work with children, but you’ll generally work under supervision.

British Sign Language (BSL)

City & Guilds Fashion Continuers This course is ideal for those who have completed the beginners course or for those who already have basic machine skills and some knowledge of designing items. You will research, design and produce a garment such as a skirt or trousers.

Level 2 Diploma

Level 1 is designed to enable learners to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL). A range of topics are studied that involve simple, everyday language use. It provides an introduction to BSL and is suitable for all learners.

Our volunteers work alongside our professional tutors giving extra help to our learners. No previous experience is needed. All volunteers complete a free training programme provided by New Directions.
