The Cedar street site is hard to miss. A massive parking lot belonging to Roxbury community college with a glimmer of soul in the back. A mural of the people of Fort Hill painted onto the side of the maintenance shed. A steep grade, as the community’s namesake suggests, takes hold on the sidewalks adjacent and towards the back end of the site itself and lends itself to an elevated terrace occupying roughly half the site. The elevated mezzanine and its strong grid of steel columns firmly bounds the site next to the roaring Columbus ave, and mixed with the added mural walls, provides a security and peace of mind when within the comfortable protection of the site. Important in the larger system of supports is the communication between sites. The main site on Fort Hill looks across Columbus and the depressed Orange Line tracks to the elevated platform at the Mission Hill threshold. In this way, these neighborhood gateways engage further with the city at large, and provide a reminder to elevated users of their proximity to the Corridor.
