Many products that we use around the house, such as furniture polish, paint stripper, and carpet and upholstery cleaners can contain hazardous chemicals that often are rinsed down the drain when cleaning up. These chemicals can then travel throughout our watershed and to Lake Erie. Instead of pouring or flushing these products, use them up entirely or take them to a local household hazardous waste collection (see page 31). 15
