HS Students Celebrated For STEM Challenge Achievement

Islip Town Supervisor, Angie Carpenter kicked off the March Town Board meeting by recognizing two exceptional students from Brentwood High School, Alisha Ahsan and Stephanie Pizano, for their outstanding achievements in the National STEM Challenge.

These talented seniors have been named among the 125 champions of the prestigious competition, which showcases their innovative solutions to the pressing issue of nitrogen pollution in Long Island waters.

Alisha Ahsan, a 17-yearold from Bay Shore, has made a remarkable impact with her research on the effects of nitrogen pollution on eelgrass. Her proposed method to help restore the

declining sea grass by gluing seeds onto live shellfish, has the potential to make a significant difference in the health of Long Island’s marine ecosystem. Alisha’s project has not only earned her a place among the champions of the National STEM Challenge, but also an opportunity to present her research at the Long Island Sound Summit.

Stephanie Pizano, an 18-year-old from Brentwood, has invented a groundbreaking filter designed to reduce nitrogen pollution from fertilizer runoff and septic waste. Her innovative solution has the potential to positively impact the water quality of Long Island’s bays and harbors.

Stephanie’s dedication to her research has not only earned her recognition as

a champion in the National STEM Challenge, but also a chance to compete in the International Science & Engineering Fair in Los Angeles.

The success of Alisha and Stephanie is a testament to the exceptional work being done by the educators and mentors at Brentwood High School. The research program, led by educator and scientist Rebecca Grella, has consistently produced high-achieving students who have gone on to make significant contributions to the field of science.

United Way Of Long Island Offers Free Spanish Course For Careers In Smart Grid And Green Construction Industries

United Way of Long Island’s workforce development program, ‘Power Up! Wind, Solar & Renewables’, first Spanishspeaking cohort graduated last week. This free training generously supported by Bank of America is focused on creating a foundation and pathways to secure careers in the renewable energy industry for Long Islanders.

In partnership with Pronto of Long Island, the course was held over five-weeks, covering: Hands-on Training for Next-Generation in Construction, Building Science Principles, Assistance with Job Placement, and OSHA 10. More than 120 individuals registered for the inaugural cohort, 32 were selected, and 27 graduated.

According to the New York State Department of Labor, over 10,000 new industry jobs will be available in New York State by 2030. The 2020 Census reported that Hispanic residents represented 20.2 percent of Long Island’s population, growing by more than a quarter within

a decade.

“Your language is your gateway,” said Theresa A. Regnante, President & CEO of United Way of Long Island. “Investing in a program that connects Spanish-speakers with training, networking and mentorship opportunities, and employer/job connections is not only the right thing but also the smart thing to address these communities’ energy and employment needs while also protecting the environment.”

“I’ve been in the construction trade for 19 years and currently a foreman overseeing 14 front-line workers,” said Manuel.” I didn’t know what to expect from the program and the knowledge that I gained was invaluable.”

Power Up! graduates are proficient in the installation of clean heating

and cooling technologies, high-efficiency HVAC, heat pumps, solar panels, EV Charging and the benefits of renewable energy. The program is made possible by Bank of America, New York Empire State Development, and National Grid Ventures.

MacArthur Airport Unveils New Website To Benefit Local Customers & Inbound Visitors

Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) customers will now have an easy mobilefriendly resource to provide them with information and maps on the routes its air carriers serve, along with on-time and flight arrival and departure information, airport dining options, news, and more.

“This new Website – www. flymacarthur.com – both showcases and promotes our airport to local residents and amplifies the many attributes of our area so we can attract more visitors to Long Island,” said Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Using the latest technology, we are able to

target helpful messages to our customers based on their location when they go to our new airport website,” she added.

“We continue to work hard to enhance the customer experience at Long Island MacArthur Airport,” said Airport Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken. “This new website is aesthetically pleasing and puts important airport resources right at customers’ fingertips. Since the site is optimized for mobile devices, customers can access it from home on their desktops and tablets, or on the fly from their mobile phones,” she added.

FlyMacArthur.com provides excellent usability features for Long Island’s most convenient airport, with user-friendly content that will promote increased levels of engagement with its customers. Islip Town Launches Online Planning And Development Application Portal

Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, members of the Islip Town Board, along with Planning Commissioner Ela Dokonal and IT Director Doug Miller, are pleased to announce the soft launch of the Islip’s new digital Applications Portal. This online tool offers a convenient platform for property owners and authorized parties to access property information, file applications, and check the status of applications from home, the office, or on-the-go.

“Our goal has always been to improve the way residents, businesses and stakeholders interact and do business with our Town. This online Planning and Development Portal is a necessary leap forward in the modernization of our services, and will revolutionize the way the public applies for and tracks applications,” said Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter.

Participation in the launch is easy. Simply visit https://planning. islipny.gov/ and follow the instructions to create an account. After validating your account, you will have the ability to submit applications, upload documents, and interact with currently available features.

This soft launch of the new portal currently allows residents to digitally apply for select building permits such as new buildings, additions and alterations, to name a few. Over the coming months, we will continue adding new online applications to the portal, including Engineering and Planning Division applications.

“This is an important step forward for the Planning and Development Department, enabling residents to access information and submit applications at the click of a button. This system will add transparency and streamline the permitting process. We are thrilled to launch it to the public, and continue to provide new features moving forward,” said Planning and Development Commissioner Ela Dokonal.

1) Para elegir un (1) Administrador para el Consejo de administración de la biblioteca pública, por un mandato de cinco años, que comenzará el 1 de julio de 2024 y finalizará el 30 de junio de 2029, como resultado de la expiración del mandato que actualmente ocupa Diane Hartill.

2) Para aprobar el presupuesto anual de distrito de la biblioteca para el año fiscal 2024/2025, y para autorizar que la porción requerida del mismo se recaude mediante impuestos sobre la propiedad sujeta a impuestos del Distrito de Bibliotecas.

ADEMÁS, SE NOTIFICA que las peticiones para nominar candidatos para el cargo de Administrador de la biblioteca deben presentarse en la oficina de la Secretaria del distrito escolar, ubicada en 75 West Perkal Street, Bay Shore, Nueva York, de 9:00 a. m. a 5:00 p. m., a más tardar el lunes 4 de marzo de 2024. Cada petición de nominación debe estar dirigida a la Secretaria del distrito escolar, y debe estar firmada por al menos veinticinco (25) votantes calificados del distrito. Dicha petición debe indicar la residencia de cada firmante y el nombre y la residencia del candidato. Los formularios de petición se pueden obtener en la oficina de la Secretaria del distrito escolar.

ADEMÁS, SE NOTIFICA que, en el caso de elecciones disputadas, los nombres de los candidatos deben estar enumerados en la boleta en el orden determinado por sorteo por la Secretaria del distrito escolar, el cual se llevará a cabo en 75 West Perkal Street, Bay Shore, Nueva York, a las 2:00 p. m. del martes 5 de marzo de 2024.

ADEMÁS, SE NOTIFICA que la Junta de Inscripción del

distrito escolar se reunirá en la Biblioteca Pública de Bay Shore-Brightwaters ubicada en 1 South Country Road, Brightwaters, Nueva York, el miércoles 20 de marzo de 2024, de 2:00 p. m. a 8:00 p. m., con el fin de preparar un registro de votantes calificados de este distrito escolar para dicha Asamblea de distrito extraordinaria, en cuyo momento cualquier persona que se presente personalmente para inscribirse tendrá el derecho a que se incluya su nombre en tal registro, siempre que en dicha reunión de la Junta de Inscripción se conozca o se confirme para satisfacción de la Junta de Inscripción que la persona en ese momento o de allí en adelante tiene el derecho de votar en la Asamblea de distrito extraordinaria para la que se prepara ese registro. Una persona tendrá el derecho de votar en la Asamblea de distrito extraordinaria si reúne los siguientes requisitos: (a) es ciudadano de los Estados Unidos; (b) tiene 18 años; (c) es residente dentro del distrito escolar de Bay Shore Union Free durante un período de treinta (30) días inmediatamente anteriores a la fecha de dicha Asamblea de distrito extraordinaria, y (d) no se encuentra de otro modo incapacitado para inscribirse para o votar en las elecciones de conformidad con las disposiciones del artículo 5-106 de la Ley Electoral.

ADEMÁS, SE NOTIFICA que el registro(s) preparado para el voto escolar de la Asamblea de distrito escolar ordinaria, llevada a cabo el 16 de mayo de 2023, se utilizará como base para la preparación del registro para la Asamblea de distrito extraordinaria mencionada anteriormente que se llevará a cabo el 2 de abril de 2024. ADEMÁS, SE NOTIFICA que se les permitirá a los votantes inscribirse en la Oficina administrativa del distrito, ubicada en 75 West Perkal Street, Bay Shore, Nueva York, durante el horario de atención habitual en cualquier día de la semana hasta el 27 de marzo de 2024. Inmediatamente después de su finalización, el registro se presentará en la oficina de la Secretaria del distrito escolar, donde se abrirá para su inspección por parte de cualquier votante calificado del distrito, durante el horario de atención habitual, todos los días de allí en adelante, excepto los sábados (día en que se podrá inspeccionar solamente de 11:00 a. m. a 12:00 p. m. [mediodía] con cita previa), y los domingos.

ADEMÁS, SE NOTIFICA que el Consejo de administración de la biblioteca pública llevará a cabo una reunión pública informativa con el fin de debatir sobre el presupuesto propuesto la noche del miércoles 20 de marzo de 2024, a las 7:00 p. m. en la biblioteca, ubicada en 1 South Country Road, Brightwaters, Nueva York. El fin de dicha reunión es brindar a los residentes del distrito información completa y precisa sobre la propuesta presupuestaria de la biblioteca para el 20242025. Todos los residentes y contribuyentes del distrito están invitados a asistir a la reunión. Las copias de los gastos estimados para el año siguiente estarán disponibles para su inspección en la reunión de información presupuestaria y en la oficina de la secretaria del distrito escolar entre las 9:00 a. m. y las 3:00 p. m., todos los días que no sean sábado, domingo o feriado, durante los catorce (14) días inmediatamente anteriores a la Asamblea de distrito extraordinaria.

SE NOTIFICA ADEMÁS, que los votos anticipados por correo o en ausencia pueden solicitarse en la oficina de la Secretaria del distrito escolar durante el horario laboral habitual. La Secretaria del distrito escolar debe recibir dichas solicitudes siete días antes de la votación si la boleta se envía por correo postal al votante, o antes de las 5:00 p. m., hora local, del día previo a la votación si la boleta se entrega personalmente al votante. No se escrutará ninguna boleta por correo anticipado ni boleta de votante ausente a menos que se reciba en la oficina de la Secretaria del

distrito escolar a más tardar a las 5:00 p. m., hora local, del día de la elección. Una lista de todas las personas a las que se hayan emitido votos anticipados por correo o en ausencia estará disponible en dicha oficina cada uno de los cinco (5) días anteriores al día de la votación, excepto los domingos y días festivos; y se publicará el día de la elección.

TAMBIÉN SE NOTIFICA que un votante calificado cuya capacidad para comparecer personalmente en el centro electoral se ve sustancialmente afectada debido a una enfermedad permanente o discapacidad física y cuyo registro de inscripción haya sido marcado como “incapacitado de forma permanente” por la Junta Electoral conforme a las disposiciones de la Ley de Educación tendrá el derecho de recibir una boleta para votos en ausencia de acuerdo con las disposiciones de la Ley de Educación sin la necesidad de realizar solicitudes diferentes para obtener dicha boleta.

ADEMÁS, SE NOTIFICA que los votantes militares que no estén actualmente inscriptos pueden solicitar inscribirse como votantes calificados del distrito de la biblioteca. Los votantes militares que sean votantes calificados del distrito de la biblioteca pueden presentar una solicitud de boleta militar. Los votantes militares pueden indicar su preferencia de recibir una inscripción como votante militar, una solicitud de boleta militar o una boleta militar por correo, por fax o por correo electrónico en su solicitud de dicha inscripción, solicitud de boleta o boleta. Los formularios de inscripción de votantes militares y las solicitudes de boletas electorales militares deben recibirse en la oficina de la Secretaria del distrito escolar a más tardar a las 5:00 p.m. del viernes 8 de marzo de 2024. No se escrutará ninguna boleta militar a menos que se haya recibido en la oficina de la Secretaría del distrito escolar a más tardar a las 5:00 p. m. del día de la elección.
