Our hearts are broken to share the passing of our beloved Past President and dear friend, Anthony Ventiera - our Tony V.

If you ever had the honor of knowing Tony, you knew that he was an incredibly hard worker with a dedicated passion for volunteerism. But even more than that, Tony was an honest, kind, and selfless human being who put others before himself, and who adored his family, friends, and community. Our Chamber will never be the same without his steadfast optimism, endless wisdom, and playful humor. Tony loved music, especially the timeless genre of doowop, and provided countless serenades with his beautiful melodic voice. His song guided the melody of our Chamber.

We send all of our love and sympathy to Tony's family during this incredibly difficult time. Rest in Peace, our sweet Tony - you will be in our hearts forever.

Woman’s Club Of Massapequa Holds A First Time “Lemon Auction”

President Frances Cloud presided over the April 10th General Meeting held at the Massapequa Bar Harbor Library.

Members donated slightly used items, which were then auctioned off by Jennifer Galub-Pravato. They say “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure”!

It was the consensus of the Club members that, due to the tremendous success, the Auction become a yearly event! The proceeds will go to help needy families with children on a temporary basis in our community.

Following was dessert, coffee and tea, set up on a festive table, coordinated by Hospitality Chairs, JoAnn Bedard and Laurie Walegir.

The Child Welfare Department is in the process of selecting two MHS students who will be receiving a scholarship, to be presented at the May 8, 2024 General Meeting.

Police Officers Give Internet Safety Tips

Officers Teana Grande and Eugene Messmer, from the Nassau County Police Department’s Community Affairs office, spoke to sixth, seventh and eighth graders during their physical education classes. Topics included digital citizenship, responsible

use of social media, bullying and cyberbullying. They reminded students to be mindful of their digital footprints, noting that their posts and comments today could affect them in the future. Colleges and employers often review a candidate’s social

Dean of Students Kristen Meoli said that the presentation reinforced messages students have heard throughout the school year. In October, sports agent Mark Leinweaver spoke to students during a character matters assembly, and in

March, Berner’s Chiefs Challenge Club organized Character Education Day with guest speakers and classroom activities that focused on acceptance, empathy, kindness and respect.

Armed Forces Appreciation Day Celebration May 17th

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announced that veterans and active United States military personnel are invited to the Town of Oyster Bay’s Armed Forces Appreciation Day Celebration slated for Friday, May 17th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, located at 7800 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury. This free event, open to Town of Oyster Bay veterans and active duty personnel, will include a BBQ and entertainment by the singing group American Bombshells.

“The Town of Oyster Bay is committed to serving veterans and ensuring they have access to important benefits in which they are entitled to,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This is an important way of thanking our brave hometown heroes for protecting the freedoms we enjoy each and every day as Americans.”

President Harry S. Truman established Armed Forces Appreciation Day in 1950 as a day to pay special tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. This single holiday provides an opportunity for citizens to come together and thank

our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. The Town’s celebration includes a patriotic musical salute to our hometown heroes, including a special performance by the “American Bombshells,” and a free barbeque. To accommodate as many hometown heroes as possible, veterans and active military personnel are invited to bring one guest. Registration Opening For Town’s Summer Co-Ed Fitness Classes

Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Laura Maier announced that residents who are interested in maintaining or improving their levels of fitness can register for the Town’s popular Co-Ed Fitness Classes at the Hicksville Athletic Center. Classes run for 10 weeks and are offered to individuals 18 years of age or older.

“The Town’s summer co-ed recreational programs have consistently proven to be one of the most popular programs the Town offers each year, as they provide a terrific outlet for our residents to exercise and stay in shape,” said Councilwoman Maier. “Residents can participate in a variety of activities, including Cardio Kickboxing, Yoga, Zumba, Pilates and Ballroom Dancing.”

Each session runs for 10 weeks, beginning in early July. All classes are held at the Town of Oyster Bay Hicksville Athletic Center,

167 S. Broadway, Hicksville. Registration is underway for the following classes:

Ballroom Dancing: offered Saturdays, from 7pm to 8pm, beginning July 6th.

Cardio Kick-Boxing: offered Thursdays, 7:30pm to 8:30pm, beginning July 11th.

Pilates: offered Mondays, from 8pm to 9pm, beginning July 1st.

Yoga: Residents can select one of two sessions: Saturdays (beginning July 6th from 9am to 10am), or Tuesdays (beginning July 9th from 8pm to 9pm.

Zumba: Residents can select one of two sessions: Mondays (beginning July 1st from 6:45pm to 7:45pm) or Wednesdays (beginning July 3rd from 7:30pm to 8:30pm).

Saladino: Beach Parking Stickers Available

Free Stickers For Senior Citizens & The Disabled

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announced that seasonal beach parking sticker sales and the free distribution of stickers to senior citizens and the disabled are available.

The Oyster Bay Town Board has restricted beach access to residents only and enhanced safety measures by installing signage and pedestrian barriers. A major sand replenishment project will be complete by Memorial Day weekend.

Supervisor Saladino stated, “Break out the beach towels and sunscreen because summer is just around the corner, and so are our beach sticker sales!

The Town of Oyster Bay is a true staycation destination offering some of the best beaches in the world. By purchasing a beach sticker in advance, you can avoid the inevitable lines that often accompany the start of

the beach season and spend more time with your feet in the sand instead.”

Beach parking stickers are on sale from 10AM - 2PM daily at John J. Burns Town Park in Massapequa, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay and at TOBAY Beach. Beginning Saturday, May 25th, beach parking stickers will be available for purchase on weekends only from 8AM to 4PM at Centre Island Beach in Bayville and Philip B. Healey Beach at Florence Avenue in Massapequa. On Saturday, June 22nd, beach parking stickers will be available for purchase daily from 8AM to 4PM at Tappen Beach in Sea Cliff, and in Bayville at Charles E. Ransom and Stehli beaches. To purchase a beach parking sticker for your vehicle, residents must present a valid NYS driver’s license with residency in the Town of Oyster Bay, their vehicle registration,

and bring the vehicle they plan to drive to the beach. Parking stickers are placed on the vehicle at the time of purchase. Only residents may purchase beach parking stickers for Town of Oyster Bay beaches. Beach parking stickers are $60, which pay for themselves following three visits.

FREE PASSES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS: Town of Oyster Bay residents over the age of 60 can obtain a free parking sticker by presenting their driver’s license with town residency and their vehicle registration. After receiving the sticker, senior residents must be present in the vehicle for entry on each visit. If visiting the beach in another vehicle, seniors can show their driver’s license and get a free day pass.

FREE PASSES FOR DISABLED/SOCIAL SECURITY RECIPIENTS: Residents who are disabled or receive social security can acquire a free beach parking pass by showing their Town of Oyster Bay Disability ID card (which can be obtained at the Town Clerk’s Office for a one-time fee of $32) or Notice of Award Letter, alongside their driver’s license showing residency in the town and their vehicle registration. A parking sticker will then be adhered to the vehicle.

Relay For Life Cancer Walk/Events Scheduled For Spring/Summer 2024

More than just a fundraising walk, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life global movement brings together passionate supporters who embody the American Cancer Society’s vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.

Join a Relay community to connect with survivors, caregivers, and others impacted by cancer in your local community.

Several Relay For Life events are scheduled for this spring and summer in Hempstead, Smithtown, Plainview-Old Bethpage, and Northport.

While each Relay event embraces the uniqueness of its specific community, all events share the same four signature elements: a celebration of cancer survivors, a celebration

of caregivers, a luminaria ceremony to honor and remember loved ones, and the opportunity to fight back against every cancer as we join together for every life.

“We share a passion to save lives, celebrate lives, and work to end cancer as we know it – for everyone,” said Michelle Maugeri, associate director of development, American Cancer Society. “In 2024, more than 2 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States. During the pandemic, however, Kitchen procedures had to be modified in order to provide hot, nourishing meals safely and continuously to those in need. Indoor sit-down dining was discontinued and only take-out dining was available.

But today the Kitchen is posing for a post-Covid reopening – a

reorganizational rebirth of sorts – where Kitchen procedures can finally return to again offering guests dignified, indoor sit-down dining.

The Kitchen relies heavily on its generous volunteer support and, as such, numerous on-site and off-site volunteer opportunities are now available.

While there are openings for

on-site positions, such as helping to prepare and serve meals and to perform various maintenance functions, there are also openings for diverse off-site positions in areas such as finance, grant development and preparation, legal compliance assurance, marketing duties, social media facilitation and fund raising/ donation coordination.
