36TH ANNUAL DRINKING WATER TASTING CONTEST - In honor of National Drinking Water Week, the Long Island Water Conference (LIWC) hosted its 36th annual drinking water tasting contest at Farmingdale State College from Tuesday, May 7 to Wednesday, May 8. 14 water providers from across Long Island vied for the title of best drinking water in Nassau County and Suffolk County, respectively. Pictured: Long Island Water Conference officials were on hand to distribute samples from different water providers so participants could select their favorites.

Long Island Water Conference Hosts 36th Annual Drinking Water Tasting Contest

In honor of National Drinking Water Week, the Long Island Water Conference (LIWC) hosted its 36th annual drinking water tasting contest at Farmingdale State College from Tuesday, May 7 to Wednesday, May 8. 14 water providers from across Long Island vied for the title of best drinking water in Nassau County and Suffolk County, respectively.

“Our annual drinking water tasting contest is one of the most exciting times of year for us,” said LIWC Chairman Jason Belle. “It not only serves as a fun, friendly competition between our many water providers, but it affords us the opportunity to engage with the residents whom we serve and help them understand just how much work goes into

providing them with highquality water every day.”

More than 240 participants voted for their favorite tasting water and received exciting giveaways. In addition, LIWC representatives educated attendees on the water delivered to the homes and answered questions on the treatment methods maintaining Long Island’s high-quality drinking water.

This year’s winners were the Bayville Water Department for Nassau County and the Suffolk County Water Authority for Suffolk County. For emerging triumphant with the best tasting drinking water, these water providers hold onto the coveted trophy for a year and win bragging rights among their fellow providers. They will also

participate in the New York State Regional Metro Tap Water Taste Contest held in New York City in early August to compete for entry into the statewide contest held at the Great New York State Fair. About the Long Island Water Conference

The LIWC has been committed to providing pure and plentiful water for the Long Island community since 1951. The LIWC represents over 50 water suppliers regionally and aims to provide and maintain an adequate and safe water supply today, while anticipating the water concerns of future generations. LIWC members provide more than 375 million gallons of clean water daily. For more information, please visit www.liwc.org.

Long Island Town Supervisors Advocate For Regional Shellfish

Hatchery

Project Will Improve Water Quality & Provide Economic Benefits

Together with a coalition of Nassau and Suffolk County Town Supervisors, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino is calling on state leaders to include funding for a Regional Shellfish Hatchery in the state budget. The initiative seeks to preserve Long Island’s maritime heritage and bolster shellfish stocks throughout New York, which will in turn improve local water quality and provide regional economic benefits.

“The Town of Oyster Bay is a leader in sustainability, as our existing shellfish hatchery has been instrumental in enhancing the local shellfish population and filtering pollutants from our coastal waters,”

Supervisor Saladino said. “Through collaboration with neighboring towns and state support for the Regional Shellfish Hatchery, we can extend these benefits across Long Island and beyond, ensuring a cleaner, healthier marine ecosystem for all.”

The proposed hatchery, to be located in Islip’s Hecksher Park, will serve as a hub for shellfish recruitment and resource enhancement in the Great South Bay. It will serve multiple purposes to meet the needs of the growing aquaculture community, promote economic growth, and ensure the continuation of the tradition of farming in the Great South Bay.

The Town of Islip’s current facility is rapidly aging and has been negatively

impacted by climate change. Town Supervisors from across Long Island have joined these advocacy efforts, including Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Riverhead Town Supervisor Timothy C. Hubbard, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Daniel J. Panico, Smithtown Town Supervisor Edward R. Wehrheim, Hempstead Town Supervisor Donald X. Clavin, Jr., Southampton Town Supervisor Maria Z. Moore, Huntington Town Supervisor Edmund J. Smith, Southhold Town Supervisor Albert J. Krupski, Jr., Islip Town Supervisor Angie M. Carpenter, and North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer S. DeSena.

PAR For Progress: Swinging To End Homelessness

Dust off your clubs and golf shoes! Join New Ground and help struggling Veterans and families Break the Cycle of Homelessness by supporting their 28th Annual Golf Tournament & Dinner. Experience the exquisite Devereaux Emmet designed golf course at Cherry Valley Club in Garden City on Monday, May 20th while making a lasting impact on local Long Island Veterans and families. Help give a hand up to hard-working households striving for a brighter future!

This year, New Ground honors Long Island local, Michael Farrell. He boasts over three decades of dedicated service with LDI Connect where he spearheads innovative office technology solutions nationwide. At the heart of LDI Connect’s corporate mission lies a commitment to nurturing strong relationships and actively supporting local communities. Michael exemplifies this mission

SPONSOR THE HOMELESS

through his community involvement, support of New Ground Veterans and families as well as many others in need.

“Michael Farrell has been a long-time supporter and genuinely cares about those in need around him. He is always one of the first to step up and ask how he can help. But he often keeps his generosity under wraps, downplaying the positive impact he has on our community,” said Shannon Boyle, Executive Director of New Ground. “For all of these reasons we are excited to celebrate his good works and successes at our upcoming golf tournament.”

The golf outing is CoChaired by Diane Caputi, West Islip resident as well as Steve DiMare, Rockville Centre resident and Owner of Unified Windows. Event features include prizes for all tournament winners, cigar station on the course, the brunch Bloody Mary station, 50/50 Raffle on the Putting Green Challenge, Par 3 Hole-in-

One prizes, Beat the Pro and more!
