Page 1

July 17, 2017 Dear Friends: On behalf of California’s 34th Senate District and as a member of the California Women’s Legislative Caucus, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the National Association of Women in Real Estate Businesses’ 4th Annual Nexus Conference and Roaring Thirty Awards Gala. Since 2010, the National Association of Women in Real Estate Businesses (NAWRB) has served as a unified voice and advocate for women in the real estate industry. In this endeavor, NAWRB has encouraged the entrepreneurial success of women by providing its members with tools and opportunities for economic growth, while simultaneously promoting women-owned businesses. The emergence of women focused associations like NAWRB, not only reminds us of the prominent and growing role of women in all business sectors but further invites us to celebrate the achievements of successful women. Through your involvement with NAWRB, you are not only strengthening your professional network, but are also advocating for and showcasing the great accomplishments of women in the real estate industry, and for this you should feel very proud. In the spirit of gratitude, I would like to take this opportunity to thank NAWRB leadership, members and supporters for working diligently to make this event a success and for furthering NAWRB’s mission. I would also like to congratulate tonight’s awardees for their success and inspiration. Thanks to them and to you, women in the real estate industry can continue to prosper and contribute to the economy. On behalf of California’s 34th Senate District, thank you for being here and I offer you best wishes for a successful event. Sincerely,

JANET NGUYEN State Senator, Thirty-Fourth District California State Legislature

“Women are born multitaskers, and with each generation—

augmented by our own desire to compete harder and faster— more and more is put on our plate. Women’s habit to burn the candles at both ends has had direct consequences, notably in the fact that heart attacks are the leading cause of death

among women. By laser focusing our efforts, sharing our plat-

forms and especially by helping one another, we can advance women’s diversity and inclusion and lighten the weight on our shoulders by working smarter.” – Desiree Patno

for making this event possible!

Letter from the CEO & President Hello and welcome to the 4th Annual NAWRB Nexus Conference: Women’s Collaboration for the Future! We are honored you are joining us as we work to help advance diversity and inclusion (D&I), level the playing field for women-owned businesses, increase women’s homeownership and raise awareness of women’s poverty in the housing ecosystem. The past year has been filled with exciting developments and achievements for NAWRB as we opened our D.C. office with Silvia N. Rathell leading our team in the role of Washington, D.C. Government Relations Chairwoman and NAWRB Magazine won our third consecutive 2017 APEX Award for Publication Excellence. Today we bring you the powerful inaugural 2017 NAWRB Women in the Housing Ecosystem Report with over 30 resources after several months of preparation to produce the source for Women Entrepreneurs, Women’s Homeownership and Women’s Poverty. We also have the distinct honor, from our NAWRB Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council (NDILC) Member Melanie Gass, to present the new Microsoft Office 365 Business: Special Training Guide for Real Estate Professionals under the NAWRB platform. Find out where women stand in the housing ecosystem and kick your productivity into high gear with Microsoft’s new guide.

NAWRB connects experts and consumers, delivering true value for women’s upward mobility. From contracting opportunities to an insider’s look at women’s homeownership, our panelists provide actionable solutions with specialized forecasts, not lip service. Our screening of the award-winning short film “Zoo (Volkerschau)” folds aspects of D&I, such as sacrifices and commitment, to shine a light on the importance of history in mapping the future. I was also honored and humbled this year to be recognized as the highest-ranking woman and 4th overall Top Real Estate Influencer to Follow by Entrepreneur.com. Thank you to our strategic partners and conference sponsors for making this possible. With the industry’s eyes and ears, NAWRB delivers the power to help propel women’s economic success. Let’s enjoy and connect with the world!
