t Connect2Flourish, the coaching process is grounded in the science of positive psychology and awareness coaching. Positive psychology focuses on the measured characteristics, values and experiences that help people lead flourishing lives, while awareness coaching emphasizes the client as knowledgeable, insightful and resourceful. Utilizing both practices and various honed skills, the coach works with the client to identify what is getting in the Andrea Garin Kopilak way of their goals (often uncovering the root of an issue or pattern) and supports the client through the process of change, if needed. Coaching is a collaborative experience, where together with the coach, the client aligns their passions and goals with their strengths and values to guide choices and design how they want to show up in the world and what they want the future to hold. As a result, clients may experience personal growth and be empowered to choose to show up as their authentic self as often as they can, recognizing that they are human, share common humanity and may slip from time to time. The gift that coaching gives is a safe space to share the truth, feel seen, heard and valued, so clients can build self-awareness, confidence and remember to trust themselves—so when they slip, they get back up. Andrea Garin Kopilak, founder of Connect2Flourish, holds a BA in Communications, an MA in Educational Communications and Technology, an Advanced Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology and extensive awareness coach training from Mentor Coach. She is also an active member of the International Coaching Federation. For more information, call or text 917-583-3218, email Andrea@C2FCoach.com or visit Connect2FlourishCoaching.com. Learn Cell Memory Technique to Help Release Past Traumas

J

oAnn Inserra Duncan, Reiki Master Teacher and Owner of Turning Point Healing Arts & Education Center, will be teaching a course on advanced energy healing techniques (including cell memory technique) for Reiki practitioners on November 13, from 12:30 to 5:30pm. At Turning Point, Duncan provides a variety of healing modalities, including Usui Reiki, Karuna Reiki, Integrated Energy Therapy, Reconnective Healing and the Reconnection. ASTROLOGICAL ENERGY FOR NOVEMBER by Alexa Lane

T

he Sun is in the sign of Scorpio. On November 22, the Sun will enter Sagittarius. Mars in Gemini began a retrograde cycle on October 30 and will go direct on January 12, 2023. Mars relates to personal will and the drive to take action. The retrograde cycle creates the opportunity to reflect upon ideas and to process information that triggers growth. Introspection is essential to determine the actions needed to make ideas a reality. Think before acting impulsively. Mars continues to square Neptune in Pisces this month. The energy calls for actively listening to inner guidance in order to avoid delusion, low energy or lack of conscious awareness. In addition, Jupiter in Aries began a retrograde cycle and moved to the sign of Pisces on October 28. Jupiter will go direct on November 23 and move into Aries on December 20. Jupiter squares Mars, inspiring individuals to answer the question: How will my words and actions support compassion and new possibilities in the future?

Scorpio Season Scorpio is a fixed water sign co-ruled by the planets Pluto (modern ruler) and Mars (classical ruler). Scorpio has a sustained emotional intensity. It possesses a probing quality and an air of hidden power. There is an interest in what lies below the surface of the conscious mind. In light of this, Scorpio desires to uncover the unconscious. Scorpio aims to live in the present moment, unencumbered by the past. With honesty and psychoanalytic instincts, Scorpio motivates individuals to face their truths. To work with this energy, honor emotions and engage in healing therapies that release past hurts. This process will help clarify the path to happiness. On an intimate level, Scorpio desires intense emotional bonds, deep communion and trust. It asks individuals to stand naked in their truth and to gaze into the eyes of another. Scorpio cultivates sacred sexual healing. It dives deep into the waters of the soma, psyche and soul and emerges with wisdom and power.

Scorpio. The energy inspires entering into a state of serenity and gratitude. Listen carefully to instinctual signals and the sudden insight arising from the heart. Furthermore, honest conversations within relationships can inspire practical solutions that support healing karma.

HOW TO TURN ANXIETY INTO POSITIVE ACTION by Ronica O’Hara

but there’s no way of predicting ahead of time exactly what all the features of the new ways of operating will be. That makes it impossible for us to wrap our minds around everything that is happening.” Still, she adds, “We are also by definition part of the system, and therefore have a responsibility to do what we can. We can’t sit on the sidelines and merely hope that things transform in good directions. The situation being so serious also means that what we do now is really important.” To move from anxiety into effective action, mental health experts advise several strategies: taking a wider perspective, building resilience through self-care and taking individual steps to make a collective difference. As the Dalai Lama encourages, “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito!”

I

n this day and age, we have good reason to toss and turn in our beds at night. As our nation faces climate catastrophes, acrid politics, stubborn inflation, unpredictable virus variants and hot-button issues like abortion and guns, there’s good reason our collective anxiety levels are at a high pitch. A recent Yale survey found that 70 percent of Americans report being anxious or depressed about global warming, and a Penn State survey this year found that 84 percent of us say we are “extremely worried” or “very worried” about where the country is headed. Researchers are coining new terms: “polycrisis”, for complex, cascading crises in interacting systems, and “pre-traumatic stress disorder”, when fear of an outcome makes it as good as real to our psyches. “It’s easy for people to feel overwhelmed now, feeling there are breakdowns and threats on many fronts. People can wonder ‘Where do I even start?’ and feel powerless and hopeless and numb,” says psychiatrist Janet Lewis, M.D., a founder of the nationwide Climate Psychiatry Alliance and a University of Rochester clinical assistant professor of psychiatry. “We are part of a complex system that is moving into new ways of functioning,

Taking a Wider Perspective News reports almost always sound dire— just like the amygdala of our brains, journalists often see their function as focusing on threats to alert us to dangers. “Still, if you take the long view of history, we are much better off than we were 200 years ago or 1,000 years ago, but it took many years to make those changes,” counsels Robert L. Leahy, Ph.D., director of the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy and author of the bestselling The Worry Cure and the upcoming If Only. “We never know if something is hopeless until we have all the data, and we seldom have all the data,” he says. “And when it comes to political emotions, many of the predictions that are made by the ‘talking heads’ in media never come true.” Leahy counsels patience: “Social change does not come about by one person doing

something. That usually comes about by a long process of millions of people changing their attitudes and changing their behavior. Small efforts can be made on a daily basis that move this slow process forward. We need to take a longer view, rather than expect immediate change.” In this ongoing process, anxiety has its rightful place. “Anxiety makes us look around, figure out solutions and act. This can absolutely be turned into something positive,” says neuropsychologist Barbara Easterlin, of Jackson, Wyoming, an expert on eco-anxiety who is on the steering committee of the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America. “Doing just one thing to help the planet consistently helps defeat anxiety.” Taking action moves us into our power—as 15-year-old Greta Thunberg demonstrated by holding a sign outside the Swedish

parliament. Personal actions matter because numbers add up. Only 25 percent of individuals in a social group need to make a shift before significant social change follows, conclude researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science that analyzed a decade of societal changes in voting, health, technology and finance. Once a group reaches that tipping point, it can trigger a change in the rest of society, says study author Damon Centola, Ph.D., author of Change: How to Make Big Things Happen.

Building Resilience with Self-Care Fears about the shape of the planet and nation are often piled on top of our everyday living anxieties about family and finances, which can induce emotional overload. “We all have a ‘zone of resilience’ or ‘window

abound, others offer hope, such as Drawdown, with its sensible, scaled-down strategies to stop global warming by 2050.

of tolerance’, outside of which we become more reactive, less able to function effectively. But it is not fixed. We can learn tools to expand it and cultivate the capacity to be with more,” says Easterlin. Therapy can be a part of that process by challenging us to examine “the mental narratives that can exacerbate distress,” says Leslie Davenport, a climate psychology consultant and author of Emotional Resiliency in the Era of Climate Change. It’s important to find a therapist, she says, that “validates that your feelings are a normal response to an existential crisis.” She has helped develop new programs at the American Psychology Association and the California Institute of Integral Studies to train therapists in treating eco-anxiety. For low-cost online support, the Good Grief Network offers a 10-step, 10-week program to help process personal anxiety and grief about climate change. People are also sitting down to share their distress at climate cafes, small local gatherings springing up across the country and globe, including some online. Getting enough sleep, eating healthy and exercising are also key self-care strategies. When anxiety strikes, psychologists advise shifting attention from the head to the body, using such approaches as mindful breathing, dancing and grounding. Meditation, easily accessed these days through apps like Calm and Headspace, helps us to enter into what religious and spiritual teachings call “the still point within.” Rather than “doomscrolling” when anxiety mounts, cutting back our media use can significantly lower stress levels, studies show. Wise media strategies include choosing well-established, credible news sources; reading rather than watching the news to lower its emotional impact; limiting news intake to 10 minutes once or twice a day; taking a “news fast” on occasion; and passing up sources that incessantly feed fury. On the other hand, it’s essential to find sources for hope, an emotion important in recovery from anxiety disorders, according to a study in Behavior Therapy. Googling “good news on climate change” will bring up articles about alternative energy growth, new super-enzymes that eat plastic rubbish and black rhinos coming back from the brink of extinction. Although dystopic books

Virtually no one can take on all the problems of the nation and globe at once—and the good news is that unless we hold high public office, we don’t have to. Instead, “In taking action, focus on what you are good at, what your sphere of influence might be,” advises Lewis. “What are you most heartbroken over? Get involved in that and allow yourself to feel really good about what you’re doing and other people are doing.” By narrowing our focus, we can hone in on an issue and figure out our part in its solution. “We need a broad range of collective action for transformation,” says Davenport. “For climate change, a teacher could bring social-emotional learning to climate education into the classroom or start an after school ‘green club’; an artist could use their creative medium to communicate about climate in a moving way that could engage others; a nurse could create a waste-reduction initiative within a medical setting. These efforts all have ripple effects and help to elevate each other.” In one recent study, people were found to consume less energy if they believed their neighbors did so and personally cared about conservation. Our neighborhoods are the place to take the small, meaningful steps that address the “crisis of connection” underlying rancorous national crises, says New York Times columnist David Brooks. He advocates “radical mutuality”, saying, “Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone.” Through simple actions like having casual conversations around town, pitching in to help a family in crisis, bringing a salad to a block party, tutoring a child or holding a civic post, we build the warm relational bonds that strengthen communities. As we meet others that feel as strongly as we do about our issues, our numbers start building and collective action can unfold. “Independent of political beliefs, many people can find common values such as wanting safety for their families, a clean environment with clean waterways and recreation in natural environments,” says Easterlin. That, in turn, helps lower our distress. A recent Yale study found that eco-anxiety was linked to depression only among students not involved in group activities; those engaged in collective action such as being part of an environmental group, working in a letter-writing campaign or going to events or protests did not spiral downward emotionally. “Personal transformation and social transformation happen simultaneously. When you reach out and build community, you nourish yourself,” Brooks says. As Thunberg has put it: “When I’m taking action, I don’t feel like I am helpless and that things are hopeless, because then I feel like I’m doing everything I can. And that gives me very much hope, especially to see all the other people all around the world, the activists, who are taking action and who are fighting for their present and for their future.” Health writer Ronica O’Hara can be reached at OHaraRonica@ gmail.com.

e’ve heard the phrases “The Great Resignation” and “quiet quitting”. The pandemic and other stresses have changed our attitudes toward our work. Many were unable to work for months. Others worked remotely, working under stressful and isolating circumstances. This caused many people to question their attitudes toward their careers. Levels of dissatisfaction and frustration about careers have been growing for some time. But the unusual circumstances of the last couple of years brought many people’s awareness to a tipping point. It became intolerable to continue on the same career path that they had been on for such a long time. We spend nearly one third of our lives at work. Yet, when choosing a career path, many of us can’t predict if this career will bring us satisfaction and fulfillment in the long run. Sometimes it takes time and experience before we begin to see that we are no longer happy with our career choice. But it has become more and more important for us to feel a sense of satisfaction with our work. Are you contemplating a change in career? Maybe you simply want to improve the work situation you are in now. In either case, here are six tips to help you find more peace and fulfillment at work.

eNaturalAwakenings.com

Become Curious When things feel negative in our career, we can lose sight of what might be working. By stepping outside the scenario and becoming curious, we can gain a new perspective. You might want to try writing out the answers to the following questions: • What’s working in my current job/career? • What’s not working? • Is there one element of my current work situation that brings me the most stress? A person, a certain aspect of the work, boredom, a feeling of lack of support? Try to identify and narrow the source of the stress or unhappiness.

Mine Your Past What brought you joy in the past? Give some time to think about sources of joy in your childhood. Is there a way to incorporate them into your work or life? Bringing more joy into your life can relieve stress and create more happiness in the moment.

Use Your Imagination Daydream! Allow your mind to wander.

Tap Into Your Dreams Each night, we have an unlimited source of guidance in our dreams. What are your dreams telling you about improving your current work situation, or about what might be coming next? Keep a dream journal by the side of your bed and record any memories of your night excursions. Then, reflect on these dreams to see if they contain any guidance on your current situation.

Meditate On It Allowing 15 to 30 minutes a day where your mind can be calm and open can give you a base point for peace. Meditation can not only calm nerves, but give you access to insights. It can give you insights that

can redirect your thoughts and create new work options.

Ask for Guidance All spiritual paths indicate that we have a source of non-physical guidance. How you define this source of guidance is very personal. However, because we are on a planet of free will, our guides will not interfere unless we ask for help. So, the last tip is to ask for guidance when you feel the need for help. This can take the form of prayer, simple questions or a request for assistance in a particular situation. Don’t be afraid to ask. Your guides are always at hand waiting to assist you. Think up a “best case scenario.” What would an ideal work situation look like? What would make your current work situation joyful instead of stressful? Don’t put limits on what is possible. Think outside the box and allow your creative mind to go a little wild. It can be a revelation when we allow ourselves creative freedom.

Seeking Spirituality for Better Mental Health by Elizabeth Raver

U

ntil recently, interest in mental health has taken a back seat relative to other medical conditions like cancer, heart disease, AIDS, measles and more. Today’s informed patients play a more active role in their medical care, including mental health. As a result, the widespread use of pharmaceuticals to treat mental illness is being questioned. This is especially important because many of these drugs can produce negative side effects, including dependencies. In the past, mental illness was often attributed to chemical imbalances or genetics. Today our understanding is more nuanced and multi-faceted, as it takes into account the environment, nutrition, physical activity, sleep patterns, stress and even spirituality. The importance of spirituality in mental health and well-being cannot be overstated. Sacred moments occur when an individual experiences a connection with something greater than one’s self. Words used to describe sacred moments include divine, transcendent, boundless and interconnectedness; emotions include sublime, joy, awe, reverence and peace.

Meditation involves the practice of letting go of thoughts and living in the present. By quieting the mind, consciousness expands beyond everyday awareness. Meditation can enable one to experience things indescribably beautiful containing a sense of connectedness to the infinite. Gratitude can bring people great happiness and joy. For many spiritual people, the universe and our earth exists due to a great and creative intelligence of which we owe gratitude. Similarly, gratitude for others brings joy, as it expresses that there is more to life than pure materialism. Experiencing nature can produce deep healing and calming effects. The magic of song birds, the turn of the seasons, the awe of a thunderstorm or a radiant sunrise has the power to remind us that there is more to life than materialism. Interestingly, the Latin word “natura” means birth, thereby implying source of life. Shooting stars, the

In the study “The Experience of Sacred Moments and Mental Health Benefits Over Time” published in Psychology of Religion and Spirituality this year, researchers have found that the more often sacred moments are experienced, the more likely a person will enjoy high levels of mental health. Sacred moments lead to positive emotions, less depression, less anxiety, the perception of lower stress and the sense of life having greater “meaning and purpose”. In his book, Science and Spiritual Practices, Dr. Rupert Sheldrake offers seven ways to practice spirituality: meditation, gratitude, nature, plants, rituals, music and pilgrimages and holy places.

Milky Way, constellations and the movement of the planets can even impart a cosmic connection in us. Plants transmit a sense of the spiritual of which examples abound: Buddhist and ancient Egyptian Lotus flowers, roses representing the Virgin Mary and flowers in Hindu ceremonial worship. Trees include the biblical Sycamore, Druidic Oak and Buddhist Bodhi. Henry David Thoreau, known for his book Walden, describes his forest and wildlife experiences at Walden Pond, Massachusetts. For many people, the Fibonacci sequence, which is commonly found in nature, demonstrates a spiritual side of mathematics.

Rituals help us to connect with our spiritual ancient past. Many religious ceremonies use ancient languages: Hindu Poojas are held in Sanskrit and Coptic Church services in the ancient Egyptian language. Passover commemorates the night before ancient Jewish people were freed from slavery in Egypt. Holy Communion honors Christ’s last supper, which itself was a Passover ceremony. Greetings often have a ritualistic sense: “Namaste” means “I bow to the divine in you” and the Hebraic phrase “Shalom Aleichem” means “Peace be with you.” Many rituals become part of daily life, thereby serving as spiritualistic lifestyles. Music, since ancient times, has played a quintessential role in spirituality and well-being. According to Hinduism, the universe was formed by sounds, with “om” playing a major role. The Greek Pythagoreans believed that music connects mathematics (quantitative/objective) with intuitive (qualitative/subjective) experiences. Today, music therapy can help with depression, pain management, anxiety and other mental health concerns. Islam’s Sufi Whirling Dervishes combine chanting, music and swirling body movements to produce ecstasy in devotees. Churches, synagogues, temples and other places of worship incorporate music into their practices. Similarly, many holistic centers offer gong healing and shamanic drumming, to create a sense of well-being. Even attending a concert, opera or ballet can inspire a sense of the sacred. Pilgrimages and holy places are located all over the world: Islam’s Mecca, India’s holy Ganges River, Stonehenge and Avebury in England, ancient Egyptian temples, sacred Japanese Shinto temples and Wyoming’s Bighorn Medicine Wheel. However, pilgrimages need not be world famous as more modest places can instill in seekers a sense of spirituality. Sometimes a quiet retreat alone or with a few friends to a forested area or a local lake can uplift one’s heart and mind into experiencing sacred moments. Clearly, spirituality is an important component of mental health and well-being. Especially in today’s materialistic world, spiritual practices have the potential to help people rise above materialism in order to live life with purpose and meaning, happiness and joy. Finding Gratitude and Connection, Even in Dark Spots by Liz Jorgensen

I

n the 1980s, I was blessed and lucky to meet people in early recovery who were full of honesty, caring and humor. Some of these people were grateful to be alive even as they suffered from AIDS—as at that time there was no treatment and much social rejection, even by close family and former friends. My natural state was definitely not gratitude at the time. I was self-focused, fearful and proud. I thought it was a tragedy that I was 21 and getting sober. It’s hard to admit that level of self-pity, but it’s true. The AIDS epidemic was finally being acknowledged by our culture and medical professionals were desperately trying to find a way to help the young people suffering with rare cancers and wasting from simple illnesses. I worked in a hospital at the time and we all talked about how we could help AIDS patients, even though the route of transmission was not yet completely known. Most of the nurses and doctors were brave and knew that these humans needed us, even if there was a risk; some were quick to be fearful and “blamed” the patients for their deadly illness. I learned from the brave professionals that there was a choice. That the professionals who supervised me, with similar, elite educations, could choose to do the humane thing or remain steeped in fear and judgement opened my ignorant eyes. Even though I had some real fear of infection (I was pregnant with our first child) I chose to join the brave team, and as I did, my fear turned to deep gratitude. I hugged patients as they learned about their HIV status. I learned all I could about the illness to be able to talk honestly with others at risk. I followed the mentors with gratitude who seemed 22

eNaturalAwakenings.com

to have the belief that these patients were theirs to help, and there was no choice to not help. Around the same time, I was attending many recovery support meetings a week. In all the meetings, young people in various stages of the progression of AIDS would share their journey—sometimes in pain, but full of deep gratitude to have been welcomed, even in cases where their families had rejected them due to their sexual orientation or addiction. One young woman, frail, but still able to walk, said in our meeting, “I will die soon, but I will die sober and loved by all of you. I am so grateful for that.” In my early recovery, with these brave warriors as mentors, how could I not choose gratitude? I was healthy, educated, loved. I was privileged in my status as a white cis woman and I could walk without help and most likely would be healthy for most of my life. I often share my story and humbly admit that witnessing the AIDS epidemic upfront in meetings and at work forced me out of self-pity, envy and my other character defects fairly quickly. My daily reminder was that I was lucky, despite whatever other real challenges I faced. I remind myself of this today, as our entire world faces the potential of widespread suffering and our own mortality. We have the choice to be kind

and rational in the midst of “herd thinking” and panic. Gratitude is a rational choice, as it leads to a calmness and contentment even as we face great difficulty. Research in the field of Positive Psychology has demonstrated that creating and following a daily gratitude practice can help inoculate us from some psychological illness and, most importantly, can help us to feel relief and some autonomy when we are facing significant challenges in our lives. Try some of these gratitude practices that can help support mental health. Start a gratitude journal. Keep a gratitude list in a journal that you add to every day, or simply when you think of something that fills you with gratitude. Make a conscious goal of verbally expressing gratitude to others in your life. Every day we are the recipient of thoughtfulness or even basic care from others, from the person who bags your groceries, to the work colleague who remembers your birthday or other special occasion. Use these opportunities to state how grateful you are out loud, reinforcing your sense of gratitude and also giving others some deserved care and reinforcement. Gently add gratitude into conversations. We are all guilty of complaining and not looking for the good in others or in situations. When you are next gossiping with others, make sure to include “good gossip” things that others have done that were kind and decent. Examine if gossip is really a behavior that helps

or harms your own mental health. Send old-fashioned “thank you” notes. Electronic communications are great, easy, efficient and they technically cover our social obligations to someone who has gifted us in some way. But a written gratitude note is so unusual today that both the sender and receiver feel wonderful when we take the time to send a note. Gratitude for health, life, sobriety, connections are all possible, even in the face of great loss. This is a choice and will always be a choice—to look at the fullness of life and choose to focus on the gifts over the inevitable stresses and losses. In times of great stress or loss, it can be difficult to list all the things we are grateful for, but we know from empirical evidence what the wisdom traditions have always emphasized: A grateful heart is procured and created by us, it is not magically given or spontaneously appears. A grateful heart is happiness and contentment. A grateful heart makes us free. We must discipline the mind to see the moments of joy and connection, the rays of light and love that are present simultaneously during the storms of suffering. I wish you the ability to find gratitude and connection and thank you to all who have been part of my journey. MORE EXERCISE, LESS ANXIETY by Jessica Chichester

How Exercise Helps with Anxiety

photos by Alena.art.design on Shutterstock

Exercise can get your mind off of whatever is making you feel anxious. It can also help you work through problems, clarifying them and offering solutions. The very act of moving stops your muscles from being so tense. Getting your heart rate up boosts anti-anxiety brain chemicals, while also boosting clarity, lessening brain fog and increasing positivity and productivity. Plus, it activates the part of the brain that helps control the amygdala (the amygdala can trigger feelings of fear and anxiety). Exercising regularly can help you become less vulnerable to strong emotions. It also helps you become more resilient, helping you bounce out of a negative state of being more rapidly. The more regular you are about getting exercise, the better your anxiety-killing results. For the best results, find activities that get your heart rate up and that you like doing—and keep doing them. It could be an after-dinner walk, a dance class or going for a bike ride. Switch it up and don’t be afraid to be spontaneous. You can find classes through your local gym or wellness center, or on YouTube. If you are experiencing serious anxiety, be sure to talk to your doctor.

R

eports of anxiety are up 25 percent over the past couple of years. This number is a low projection since anxiety shows up in different ways for different people—and it’s not always easy to recognize it as anxiety. A few ways anxiety can show up include: feeling restless or agitated, having headaches and/or unexplained pains, trouble focusing, feeling tired, disrupted sleep, worrying or rolling the same-old, same-old thoughts over and over in our head. One of the best natural ways to get almost immediate relief from anxiety is to exercise— especially workouts that get your heart rate up. It works in a few different ways to help you feel better, and studies show it rivals some prescription medications. 24

On a Mission to Move Getting started on a consistent exercising routine is all about your mindset. To encourage you to get started, think about that good feeling you always experience when the workout is over. Keep visualizing this experience, the feelings you feel post-workout, and do so multiple times throughout the day. This positive association will keep

you encouraged to do your desired workout, even when you don’t feel like it. Consistency in this visualization exercise will allow your brain to make positive associations with moving. Sometimes anxiety can freeze us, so setting up healthy routines can help alleviate distress. Look at the whole picture of your life, habits, routines and mindsets.

• Create healthy routines. At the end of the day, organize your calendar for the next day, which includes creating time to exercise (three to five days a week for 30 to 60 minutes) and do some self-care recovery, like meditation or healing services at your local wellness center. Set some practical goals and celebrate their completion, while offering grace to those you didn’t finish.

• Get enough sleep. Limit caffeine, and cut it out early in the day.

• Create good rituals post exercise that keep you looking forward to coming back for more. Studies show that when we’re positive and celebratory in the little things, we experience more satisfaction and motivation in life, and with our exercise routines.

• Meditate and/or do breathing exercises first thing in the morning and have mindfulness check-ins during the day. Set a timer to take a conscious breath. • Eat mostly plants and whole foods and meal prep to ensure success in choices and in gut health. Our gut is our second brain, so make sure to take a good probiotic and eat gut-healthy foods such as fermented veggies. Drink plenty of good, clean, alkaline water. • Utilize high-quality CBD, herbs and essential oils that relax you. • Limit time on electronics and use blue light glasses, which protect your eyes and cells. • Pay attention to things that trigger your anxiety. • Throw your thoughts to paper and journal. • Connect with others. • Make yourself smile for one minute, three times a day and make yourself laugh three times a day. Observe your emotions and watch your increased feelings of happiness grow.

The old way of doing things was by pushing. With so much anxiety over the last several years, we’re moving into a state of experiencing how love, tenderness and nurturing ourselves and others is the only way. By organizing your schedule, carving out time for movement and self-care, and by celebrating the smallest of successes, we pull peace into our lives, mitigating anxiety before it can take our breath away.
