My name is Shea Perez; I’m Mojave and Yokut. I'm a junior at Monache High School in Porterville Ca. I'm a very honest person. I like to listen to all kinds of music except techno I don't really get the point of it if it has no words in it.

I had a great time here at Pitzer even though we got practically the same meal everyday I had a great time. But the only hard thing is that we have to wake up so early I'm not a morning or a night person its hard for me to get up. But I did thank the Lordy. I didn't really want to come to this program or school but I'm really glad I did. I got to make a cool hat/basket. I liked going to blogging that was pretty cool and staying here with all these cool people was pretty awesome. I just might come back next year. And if I do I hope to see some of the friends that I made here.

I did have fun at the Chumash Village with Mati, Christina, Sara and Kayleen. Even though the waves were brutal it was fun trying to surf (even though me and Capryl almost died out there trying to get out there.) and boogie boarding was way easier than surfing that's all I have to say about that. And the seashell basket weaving was hard my hand kept cramping and it also didn't help that it was super cold and all I had brought was ONE pair of pants which was not fun even though it was hot during the day but it was so cold at night and I have to thank Jackie for keeping our fire going. Even though Jenna did a good job the first night it was just I didn't like sleeping in smoke. And the only thing I wish that the Chumash village had was a shower! I mean it was cool to take a shower at the beach but I wish there was four walls surrounding me. I also like how they told their stories I liked the one about the lion who thought he was a lamb that was a cute story.

CHUMASH VILLAGE

I didn't get to finish my essay for The Scalpel and the Silver Bear, so here’s a paragraph of what I had… “College”, the word everybody either loves or the word everybody dreads. Me, I’m one of the few who love that word college. I love it because of the excitement this is the place where you find yourself. This is a place where you learn about your major, the subject that your good at. It’s also a place that’s new to you (unless you decide to stay in the town you grew up in); you get to see new things. You also get to meet new people and possibly they could be your new friends for the rest of the year. That's it.

Take Home With Me

What I'm taking back with me is more knowledge about my culture and how or prayers are stronger than anything when they are put to use. I've learned that most of our native plants can be used as medicine and that some are put in medicine and that they sell those plants for like a lot of money and you could just pick them from your back yard. I thought that was pretty cool. Or how we can make weapons out of the smallest things like a branch that become and beheading tool. Or how a rock can become deadly when they are flinted. Or how there are some plants that can be cooked and then they can fix all the problems that are wrong with you ( when used in the right dosage).

2 1

I made some new friends here and I'm glad that I got along with my roommate. Because some times I don't have the best attitude and I'm glad that she didn't snap at me for my depressingness and how some times I wouldn't talk or how I wouldn't clean my side of the room which I just cleaned earlier today. I also made friends with Capryl and Kayleen they are cool even though Capryl is gone I'll still be able to see her because well she's my cousin and we live in the same town and go to the same Study Center. It was really fun to talk to Kayleen because she would listen but not really listen so you could say something totally random and she'd still laugh with you even though she doesn't get it. I'm glad that I made friends here at the Pitzer I was afraid that I wasn't going to because I'm so shy and I'm glad that I could make friends by myself even though I've done it before I just get really nervous about meeting new people.
