Activity Levels Table 3-57 shows the recreation visits for Upper Mississippi River NWR. The Refuge had 4.4 million visits in 2011. Total Visitation Regional Economic Analysis

The economic area for the Refuge is a 19-county area across 4 States. It is assumed that visitor expenditures occur primarily within this study area. Visitor recreation expenditures for 2011 are shown in Table 3-58. Total expenditures were $101.9 million with non-residents accounting for $69.3 million or 68 percent of total expenditures. Expenditures on non-consumptive activities accounted for 68 percent of all expenditures. Table 3-59 summarizes the local economic effects associated with recreation visits. Final demand totaled $161.4 million with associated employment of 1,394 jobs, $47.0 million in employment income and $20.4 million in total tax revenue.
