Hello friends!

It’s time to put pool days behind us and welcome new beginnings with the arrival

of fall! As we approach our busiest season, we’re overjoyed to share fun happenings in the NAPCP world with all of you. Between the back-to-school rush, holiday planning and all that is life in between, we’re gearing up for a great end to 2015!

However, if your sights are already set on the New Year, make plans to unwind

and connect with our community at our annual NAPCP Retreat, January 12-15! Taking place at The Ritz Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation, we’ll embark on four days of fellowship and fun amidst lakeside luxury; registration is now open online at www. napcpretreat.com!

Already signed up and ready for our cozy winter escape, Heidi Hope Guerard

of Heidi Hope Photography is this month’s featured photographer! She’s also an active member of the community and will be teaching (her live shoot is already sold out!) at the retreat. When the proclaimed “baby whisperer” isn’t busy creating colorful and whimsical portraits of newborns, children and families, she’s maintaining her passion for learning by hosting international workshops and various public speaking engagements. Is it a surprise she’s one of New England’s most sought-after photographers?

For those of you who participated in the July International Image Competition,

thank you for sharing your beautiful images with us! Our judges are hard at work scoring images; results will be announced in October!

We hope you enjoy this month’s issue, filled with exciting events, tips and great

reads on what our members are up to!

Sincerely

The NAPCP Team

Exclusive interview with Heidi Hope!

Tell us your story. How you started and how your photography, brand, and business transformed over the last couple of years? I began Heidi Hope Photography in 2009 thinking maybe I could make a little extra money on the side while on maternity leave from teaching with my first daughter. I never planned or dreamed the business would become what it has! Today my husband Shaun and I run the business together, manage a 3000 square foot natural light studio and a team of 6 including ourselves. In the past two years I have had the opportunity to combine my love of photography with my passion for teaching through hosting workshops and traveling to speak. Heidi Hope Photography has become my dream job...a dream I never even knew I had!

We love your FAQ Friday - how has this benefited your business? Honestly, FAQ Friday is more for my own personal fulfillment. I really enjoy connecting with other photographers. When I first began HHP I had no idea what I was doing in running our business. I didn't know of any photography workshops and I was so over scheduled and underpaid that I never set aside the time to find help. I felt very isolated as a business owner. Over the years, we have learned how to turn our once haphazard business into a efficient and profitable model and that has freed up more time for me to do more of what I truly love. One of those things is teaching! I feel like FAQ Friday is a way for me to take what I naturally love to do and give to others. I think any time

you give from that place of passion, doors begin to open for you. I can't say there is any measurable benefit to doing it, but I know there's a whole lotta good karma going around from it! What is your favorite, and most challenging, thing about running a full time studio with your husband? My favorite part is that it has brought us closer together. Running a business is certainly a challenge, and it's one we face together everyday. We are proud of what we have built so far. We are excited about the possibilities in the future. I don't think anyone could possibly care about HHP's success as much as we do, because it is the livelihood of our family. It inspires us to work that much harder and set goals together. The greatest challenges we faced were in the

beginning. We had to learn to each take ownership of our own areas of the business and relinquish control over other areas. We had to make a concerted effort to leave work at work! We can't wait to have you as a speaker at our January retreat! Can you share a little tidbit about what you will be teaching? I'm so thrilled to be a part of the retreat in January! I'll be sharing how we built our studio into everything it is today. In my first year of business I did about $30,000 in sales. 5 years later we hit just under $1 million. And that was with working fewer hours and doing more of what I love. I will be sharing some of the mistakes we made in the early years (trust me, there were plenty!) and how we turned things around to build a business that

is efficient and profitable. Not everyone wants or needs a studio like ours, but the core elements of our success can be applied to anyone. From marketing, to workflow, to restoring balance in your personal life, everything is important to the overall success of your business, no matter how you define that success for yourself! What does the next five years look like for Heidi Hope Photography? Oh gosh, well, I think about how much has changed in the last 5 years and know anything is possible. We're about to have our 3rd baby (who will be crashing the retreat ;)), so my focus in the next year is family rather than growing the busi-

ness at all. Our studio is at a comfortable place and I'm limiting my teaching and travel for 2016. I'm going to sit back and enjoy everything we've built. After that, who knows! I can't sit back for long! It will be a blessing if I can continue to teach and express myself creatively through my photography business. I hope I can look back and say I made a difference.
