Director Cecilia Peck’s verité film follows Linor’s global travels as she reaches out to other victims from American college campuses to the townships of South Africa. But Linor’s own rape comes back to haunt her when she learns that her serial rapist becomes eligible for parole. Brave Miss World follows a remarkable young woman willing to use her own rape as a case study to help others, all the while racing against the clock to find her rapists’ previous victims who may be able to help her keep him in prison. An inspiring and startlingly honest story of bravery and compassion, the film is a look into the dark side of beauty pageants and how one woman refused to let her abuse be forgotten.
About the filmmaker Cecilia Peck previously directed and produced Shut Up & Sing, about the backlash against the Dixie Chicks for opposing the Iraq War. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, won a Special Jury Prize at the Chicago Film Festival, and was shortlisted for the 2007 Academy Awards. Cecilia’s documentary credits as producer include A Conversation with Gregory Peck, which was a Special Selection in the 2000 Cannes Film Festival and Justice For All. As an actress, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her performance in The Portrait.
