GRAPHIC DESIGN www.myoungheejo.com

With wealth of experience working within the graphic design, photography and fashion industry, I joined the design environment as a graphic designer and creative artworker in 2006 and have continued to develop my technical skills for web and print to where I now design to an advanced level. My career started at an online trend analysis company working on reports for major fashion organisations and companies for leading design trends in Korea. I then moved on to graphic design and photo editing for the worlds leading image library, Image Source Ltd. where I designed multi part composite, beauty and editorial images and design for many marketing campaigns. I progressed to junior graphic designer and gained promotion to in-house designer covering marketing, creative and IT department before launching my own business to embark on a freelance career. My freelance works has included general Graphic Design for web and print both, Creative Artwork such as hand-made craft and interactive digital design and Photo Editing from general retouching to high-end retouching. After a year of many interesting projects in various design industry, I got a chance to work as a creative artworker in DHL Production department of Tag Worldwide, a global brand services agency, and now I am looking for the one which I can execute all my knowledge and skill I’ve gained all these years with full of passion and energy.

/ SUPERCONNECTION

EDITORIAL DESIGN / TYPOGRAPHY / PHOTO EDITING //

Superconnection is a web version of trend report, explores the world of Superconnection, where images connect us with the world in extraordinary ways, picturing new relationships, shared journeys and the vivid emotions that comes from us linking with others across time and place. A smile becomes a friendship, a love affair, a story told to grandchildren. In an age where we are evermore connected, we seek the unexpected, the chance and the idea of a deeper connection. The Butterfly Effect, an image created by M.I.T. Professor Edward Lorenz trying to explain the unexpected connections of chaos theory – “Does the Flap of a Butterfly’s Wings in Brazil Set Off a Tornado in Texas?” How do small acts change the world? How do we connect with each other in rational, magical and unforeseen ways?

For giving some more connection between the theme and visual design, I created ‘Superconnection’ font specially to accompany this report. The driving design idea behind this font is the ‘Line’. When thinking of ‘connection’, the image of a very old family tree map popped into my head, with endless lines, basic graphic lines, that connect all history with the present moment. There’s an old Korean saying ‘The relationship of a couple or family is already connected by an invisible thread’. It’s meant to be. The font reflects the idea that all the happenings of past, present and future are connected by these invisible threads. This ‘Superconnection’ font uses visible lines to represent invisible threads connecting all the letters. www.imagesource.com

HAND CRAFT www.myoungheejo.com

As a designer who is interested in tangible space and 3-D realm, liberated from the fetters of page and screen, I am using the tools of my trade to translate various works to tangible space. This promises a direct encounter and one-to-one experience to the audience and even myself, and this is how I approach to the project: to interact and communicate between the artwork and the audience. Graduating from surface to complex and conceptual endeavours, I am trying to explore wthoughts, concepts and philosophies.
